  • We see parts of the show of the versatile and creative mind Alabaster dePlume intersected with his interview. We see parts of the songs 'Now (Stars are lit)', 'Be nice to people' and 'People: What's the difference?' at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2023 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
A performance by Alabaster dePlume is never simply a concert. The versatile British artist interrupts his music to tell anecdotes and recite poetry. In everything he does, he puts people first. Although dePlume's compositions can be velvety, they can also rub shoulders with punk or be full of disorienting improvisation. They reflect his musical approach. The saxophonist, composer and activist is never afraid to bare his soul in his music. In 2022 he released the double album Gold. It was recorded at a London studio where he invited a different set of musicians to join him every day for two weeks. There were two rules: no practicing beforehand and no listening back afterward. Only later did dePlume compile - from seventeen hours of music - an impressive collage of poignant songs combined with poetry.
