  • Today I made a floating shelf for the kitchen to match the existing butcher block countertops. I used hard maple and mounted it using two floating shelf brackets attached to the wall studs.
Plot twist! The wall had a huge curve to it, so I had to troubleshoot the mounting process.
All music composed, arranged and performed by myself.

    Floating shelf brackets: amzn.to/3j87qPc
Tung oil / citrus solvent: amzn.to/3cDjGVw

If someone out there hits the dislike button, don't get too shelf-conscious 😂

How deep is this floating shelf. Also how heavy? We’re making some from black walnut butcher block was thinking 8in deep. Do you think that’s too shallow?

My shelf itself is 6.5" deep and 31.5" long. Not sure about the weight - too late to weigh now that it's mounted! If you can get your brackets to line up with your wall studs, the weight of the shelf should not be an issue. If not, definitely use drywall anchors that are rated for a heavy load and you should be fine.
