He actually says "He turned his" if you listen closely enough, symbolizing Jesus turning his cheek instead of lashing out. Perpetuating love and mercy in place of hate and violence.
Uriah was a commander for King David. King David betrayed him and let him get killed off by their enemies and took his wife. God then punished King David by taking his first son with Uriah's wife amongst a few other things. I looked it up so no one else has to and for context.
In scripture, Uriah was an ELITE soldier in the army of King David. Bathsheeba was Uriah'swife. One day David saw her bathing, and desired her. So he sent Uriah to the front lines to purposely have him KILLED so that he could sleep with Bathsheeba. Crazy stuff. He literally told the messenger, "Put Uriah out on the frontlines here his fighting is the fiercest, then withdraw from him so he may be struck down and die." He later married Bathsheeba and she bore him a son. All can be found in 2 Samuel 11
And Nathan told a story to David about a man having a single best sheep, and someone with all the sheep took it from him after killing him. He asked David, what should happen to that man, and David said he should be killed! And Nathan said YOU are that man. That's why Lecrae said "I'm that..."
David actually did all that AFTER he slept with Bathsheeba and got her pregnant. And David wasn’t really seeking something serious with her in that moment. David saw her showering (women in that time had to bathe after their menstrual cycle because they were considered unclean after menstruating), lusted for her, sent for her, hit it, and sent her away. He basically just objectified her and used her for sex. After finding out she was pregnant, David tried to convince Uriah to go home for a few days to be with Bathsheeba (his wife), hoping they’d be intimate so they could say her child was Uriah’s. But, Uriah refused saying it wouldn’t be fair to the other soldiers that only he got to go home to his wife and no one else (basically a Saving Private Ryan situation). So David arranged for him to be on the front lines and he was killed. David then took Bathsheeba as his wife and was seen as a noble man taking in a widow, but the Prophet Nathan later confronted him with what he did, and David repented. God forgave David, but told him that “The sword would never leave his home” as a consequence for what he did. Meaning that for the rest of his life, he’d deal with serious family drama and chaos within his home. Years later, David’s daughter Tamar was raped by one of her brothers, and his another son, Absalom would kill said brother to avenge Tamar. Absalom would then publicly rebel against David for reacting so weakly to his daughter getting raped. So to humiliate his father, Absalom publicly slept with David’s concubines, literally went to war against his own father, and even turned some of Israel against David (it’s some real Game of Thrones type stuff). David was didn’t deal the death blow, but he was forced to go to war with his own son. It wasn’t until one of David’s generals found Absalom hanging from a tree (he was riding his horse underneath a low branch and his hair got caught in it) in serious pain and put a spear through him, putting an end to his rebellion and war.

The line "My good deeds are like some period blood stains on a dirty rug" is a biblical refernce from Isaish 64:6 "All of us have become like something unclean, and all our righteous acts are like a polluted garment; all of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities carry us away like the wind." Basically all his good deeds are dirty to and we are all equal and that's where in the end he points to Jesus, the only man that can make us clean. Which we see the black Air Forces turn in to white air forces. He makes us white as snow. Hope this helps! This is huge and something we need!
Lecrae gifted. God bless'em, because even people in the faith be doubting or overlooking him, partly because he don't be dogging and wagging the finger at folks.
They probably think he trying to be seen but really he showing how cool you can be to be a real respected man and still tough for repping your belief you don't have to be weak or a devil worshipper you can challenge the norm with your natural intelligence with questions and stories
I love his rebuttal and him asking himself what would he do too. That’s beautiful. To take this moment to hear dot out, and give not only dot advise but also himself. 10:16
For context, Uriah was a soldier in the Bible that was ordered to be killed in battle by King David so that the king could sleep with his wife Bathsheba.
He was sent to the front lines of the war by King David, knowing he would die, so that he could take Uriah‘a wife for himself. I think it’s an important distinction. Ordering someone’s murder and intentionally placing someone in harms way increasing that probability isn’t the same thing. Though the result is ultimately the same. Recognizing the person you’re dealing with, will they make you vulnerable or put a price on your head-should color how you proceed.
And Uriah was his friend also, he is named as one of the original 30 men of valor, who lived and fought in caves to protect David for >10 years while he was fleeing from Saul. All these things together paint why Lecrae said what he said- I am the killer. I am the guy who would order the innocent dead like a stranger being controlled by my own selfishness. I can’t act like I’m any better
I’m telling you, Lecrae is a SPITTER. Again, he’s the only Christian artist I actually listen to because he’s not an extreme evangelist. He’s spent his whole career calling out the super conservative evangelical Americanized Christians.

In regards to the Uriah bar, Uriah was a good soldier of the army of King David. While David was chilling in the palace (he was supposed to be in the field at war helping his soldiers), he saw Uriah's wife Bathsheba looking good, bathing on the rooftop, and sent for her. Since David was king, she couldn't refuse him. She ends up getting pregnant and he tried to convince Uriah to leave the battlefield to sleep with her in order to cover his tracks. Uriah is a stand up guy though and doesn't want to leave his fellow soldiers in the midst of battle just to hang and sleep with wifey. Since Uriah didn't take the bait, David chose to set him up to get killed in battle by having him on the front line and telling the general to pull back at a certain point. This leads to future trouble for David and the rest of his family. King David's adultery and setting Uriah up are the two biggest stains on the King's legacy.

'Christ ain't watch the party die, He died instead of it.' Lecrae is absolutely correct. To KDot point, perhaps he's looking to the future. Have you ever read the Book of Revelation in the Bible (serious question)? When Christ RETURNS... you want to be with Him and not against Him! Check out Revelation 6:15-17. The character and attributes of Christ are on display here. IMO, for KDot, he's feeling and portraying the wrath of Christ that demands justice. Crae on the other hand is portraying the humility, mercy and longsuffering that is also Christ. Its beautiful because both songs are true!
People don't realize Lecrae was basically a mentor to Kendrick before he popped off. It's almost like Kendrick is coming full circle and thinking about the early voices in his career, which is fire. To briefly explain the Bathsheba and Uriah bars. Bathsheba was Uriah's wife. Kind David stole Bathsheba from Uriah, and later sent Uriah to the front lines of battle to be killed so he could have Bathsheba for himself. In other words Lecrae is saying he and David both have blood on their hands and they both found the same forgiveness in Christ
@@andothersuchnonsense2685 from what I've heard, mostly about the music industry. Lecrae had just dropped "Church clothes" in May of 2012 and I think it was the number one album before Good Kid Maad City in October 2012. Kendrick was looking to Lecrae for advice on navigating that at the time and had even asked Lecrae to feature on a song at some point which Lecrae said he turned down, don't remember why.
idk how Scru didnt pick up on the layers to that bar. Most people are starting to feed into negative energy and act on it with violence, but turning the other cheek stops the flow of negative energy in this world
The firsr part described Lecrae experience similar to Kendrick, the second part is what he would do which is respond as a Christian. He would have easily chased more audience by dialing back on the Jesus' message, but he didn't. Mad respect ❤.
I'm not any sort of believer but I can appreciate artists who can successfully use their religiosity in the metaphorical sense, because that's where it operates the most in peoples' minds.
As a CHH fan Iam so glad dope artists like Lecrae are getting the respect attention from mainstream media there’s more dope CHH artists more than you can ever imagine.
I’m really connecting with this new era of Hip-Hop diving into our morals, contractions and what we look for in others but at the same time how much we hold ourselves accountable for the good in the world. I learned we have to be the good we want to see, and we really need to look at others and the world just as us because we’re all growing, and it feels like more people are approaching their own form of spiritual awakening. I realized now with Watch the Party Die and this, is that I have to be as compassionate and empathetic to myself as I am to others, and also to not throw shame and guilt so easily for things we all can understand.
The Culture Warriors are answering Kdot's call to ACTION 💯... Me and mine are emersed in this moment, 🙏the vision... It's rumbling in the most GLORIOUS way 🙏... as Diddy gets arrested 👀...

Uriah was a soldier in King David's army. David saw Uriah's wife, Bathsheeba, bathing, and he desired her for himself. So to get her, he purposely sent Uriah to the front lines to die. Hence the lines of Uriah's blood being on Lecrae's hands and Bathsheeba being in his quarters
The period blood is a reference to Isaiah 64:6. The word “dirty rags” used in it was LITERALLY in Hebrew the rags that were used for women’s MENSTRUAL cycles. The point is that we are so wretched compared to God’s perfection thst even our “righteous deeds” are basically like used tampons. This is why only God could come down and get us. We can never earn our way to Him. “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.”
Even doing "gospel rap", Lacrae is a REAL MC. We need respect him a lot. It is my first time listening, and I liked so much. Thank You Scru to bring us this song. This song, It is real hip-hop.

It's only a matter of time. He did shout him out in Church Clothes 3
@@stryderblaze80 no, that was CC2
@@the5gguru ahhhhh ... thanks for the correction
The smart move was the White AF1s as the cover.
Lecrae took that alley-oop and dunked on it with BARRRZ 🔥🔥🔥
@@jeniecer if you listen to Untitled Unmastered, the intro is him seeing Revelations, this is just an extension of that
@@GrooveGod256 that makes perfect sense.
I saw another comment on a different video that said KDoT=Old Testament and Crae=New Testament
@PrenticeJones-fh2ew I saw that too shortly after I typed this.
Lecrae is truly Gods work and Kendrick time friend and mentor 🙏😄 Dee 1 response aswell is amazing
A mentor how?
@@andothersuchnonsense2685 from what I've heard, mostly about the music industry. Lecrae had just dropped "Church clothes" in May of 2012 and I think it was the number one album before Good Kid Maad City in October 2012. Kendrick was looking to Lecrae for advice on navigating that at the time and had even asked Lecrae to feature on a song at some point which Lecrae said he turned down, don't remember why.
Saw Kendrick in the title on the notification and came over instantly
🤨
Glaze glaze. 🍩
Ransom, Curtiss King & D-1 responded 💯🔥
Scru really needs to react to some Ransom tracks. His new project with Conway and VDon is 🔥
This reaction and the comments section discussion is 🔥. Thank you!
4:12 He’s saying “instead of putting dents in their head, he turned the other cheek.”
idk how Scru didnt pick up on the layers to that bar. Most people are starting to feed into negative energy and act on it with violence, but turning the other cheek stops the flow of negative energy in this world
Double entendre, could also means ,transformed lives
To be fair the lyrics on the screen were wrong. But yes
The firsr part described Lecrae experience similar to Kendrick, the second part is what he would do which is respond as a Christian. He would have easily chased more audience by dialing back on the Jesus' message, but he didn't. Mad respect ❤.
I grew up in a Christian household so Lecrae and grits was my introduction to hip hop
Dee 1 also responded as well
I need to check it out
The Dee 1 track was DOPE
@@johnh7458 no lie it had same energy as Kanye inserting himself into the Kendrick-Drake beef... vibe is off
@@deejaydee1578 LMAO
Lacrae is the JayZ of Gospel Rap
Amazing from Lecrae! Beautiful
If Kendrick brings Lecrae out at the SuperBowl 🤯🤯🤯
This was very well needed in our time now. Love it…!❤🔥
Thanks for the constant entertainment. God loves you.
I'm so happy their waking people up to the truth, TO THE MOST HIGH YAH
Great seeing you covering about Lecrae. You need to do about one Gospel rapper per month. There are lots of Dee-1's & Lecrae's out there.
If only Scru knew about KB!
*We living in an era where we writing tracks to uplift our brothers and sisters instead of diss tracks.*
Lecrae right we all ought to pray 🙏 more.
Aye thank you for using my lyric video! 🙌🏼
Lecrae is my og I grow up listening to him but I always got love for you scru.

Dee-1 also responded and Ray Vaughn dropped a remix to Kendricks track as well!!!
Come on you gun!!! See!! This why I mess witchoo! Dope analysis that catches the bars! Keep doin yo thang! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥
Phenomenal reaction
The Culture Warriors are answering Kdot's call to ACTION 💯...
Me and mine are emersed in this moment, 🙏the vision... It's rumbling in the most GLORIOUS way 🙏... as Diddy gets arrested 👀...
Lacrae understand the assignment 💜💯
Lecrae ain’t lying. Jesus Christ is the truth, the way and the light. Jesus is the only answer to the problems plaguing the black community and the culture.
He's such a brilliant rapper... So underrated. I'm glad you gave him a spot Scru👏👏👏👏
Bro i love the way you react and actually dissect the lyrics unlike most of these folks out here 🔥. they just act like they understand what is being said not knowing that they are exactly the ones dot talking about.
Love the crae reaction. Welcome to this side!
Was definitely waiting on this! In scru we trust! ✊🏾 🙏🏾
God is real bro. Peace be with you man.
Everybody talking about lecrae mention and im here for it!!! But yall missed the Dee-1 mention too!! I've been listening to all 3 of these artists since CDs 😅 this is like a dream come true
Yes but we're you listening to the Big Prophet on cassette tapes way before these cats were even out of high school.
This was definitely a good loud message. He had a message to deliver and made it clear in his own way. Poetic and concise. Thank you for your break down SFJ .
Great reaction man 👍🏼👍🏼
Man your music is dope as your reactions 🔥🔐
I agree there’s no clout chasing here. Kendrick posed the question. Lacrae answered. Love it.
I love how the mention of Jesus and Christianity make people act all awkward 😁
lol wrd
Lecrae lyrics going over alot of people heads with this verse, he talking about the culture and God in this entire verse
Big love to you brother for being respectful of Lacraes beliefs. I love how the song has things in it for those who believe in God and for those who don't
Get this up there
The period blood is a reference to Isaiah 64:6.
I like the way he reacts to the hard lyrics 😂 😂 😂
Kendrick makes music that electrifies us. His drops have us talking, analyzing, reflecting, and yearning for more!
I love Lecrae. He killed this frrr. I’ve been a big fan of his music since I was 11. Keep spreading God’s love big bro. 🙏🏽🐐💯🔥💪🏽
Dee 1 also responded Scru it’s called call it like it is🔥🔥🔥it’s fiiiiire
Even doing "gospel rap", Lacrae is a REAL MC. We need respect him a lot. It is my first time listening, and I liked so much. Thank You Scru to bring us this song. This song, It is real hip-hop.
