With 92 speed, Devin White is pretty awesome to user though. You don't have to sub in a nickel as he's as fast as your corners, sometimes faster. So u can keep all your speed in your secondary. The one drawback is he can't catch for shit lol
He’s so immature. He has unbelievable physical skills so he could get though high school and college without being fundamentally sound, but the NFL is a completely different story. TJ Edwards on the eagles is the exact opposite and he’s thriving because he plays intelligently even without the super speed of white
Tell us you never played football without telling us you never played football. As a former linebacker, I see a technically sound linebacker. As a linebacker, your first read is always run. That one discipline accounts for the misstep in nearly all of the plays you're criticizing him on. So, for everyone saying Lamar isn't a good QB/isn't worth the $, this is one of the small nuances he brings to the game. His ability to run consistently puts LBs out of position on passing plays.

First he had the ball literally thrown right to him as he was not in position to make a play and second he just trots out of bounds without even thinking twice about trying to score or get down field
Some of these clips of Devin white aren’t super accurate because the scheme and the play call are what is putting him into certain situations. For example. The WR screen when Ricard goes in motion. Nobody moves with him. This means it’s zone coverage. Lamar does a read option with the RB which holds white because you have to respect Lamar’s running ability. Lamar reads white and then throws the ball out in the flat. The only thing white could have don’t better on that play is take a better angle to that tackle. If he would have cheated over like the video suggests he would have given up a big run play to Lamar. That is just one example from this video but there are others.
I would encourage you to understand the defense and what specifically the coordinator is asking him to do. The only play I might have an issue with, that’s nfl coaches included would be play 2 the scramble. he’s 2nd recontain and it’s the 3 level (DBs) to lock all eligible receivers during scrambles. Play one: it’s trap coverage, he did excellent job. He’s the A gap defender, he’s first job is to clear run. Especially with the RB Offset in two Safety high coverage!! Play 3. He’s a B gap defender the DT is in a 1-Tech (A-Gap). That’s DT fault because he cannot get reached by the Center. HIS JOB IS TO KEEP HIM OFF OF DEVON. Devon is the Cut-back defender. Play 4. He the B gap defender, with the RB to him, the Zone indicator away. Yes the TE buzz the flat, but they ran COUNTER. He has to scrap over top for the Run. and BTW the play is a RSO - Run Screen Option. He did an excellent job on this play recovering and funneling it the Corner. Who I blame, because he can’t get out leveraged. Play 5. It’s tough because he’s the B gap player in run. The RB arch blocks and now devons the edge defender (turn everything back in). He gets caught inside the arch. My adevice would be flatten him out to the sideline, and let the ball carrier bounce and pray my third level defender scraps fast for no more than a 6-9 yr gain. He’s screws his third level defender, knocking him off, by not declaring and forcing the runner to make an immediate inside or out path. All in all, two plays were on the Defensive Cordinator, you can’t allow offensive coach to horizontally stretch the Sam Backer without support. Lamar is a running QB, their bottom half in passing. 8 man box is imperative. The DT stay in your gap, the Center should NEVER reach the backside LB.

Devin White is at his best when he’s Blitzing or playing Simple Assignment Football in Run Defense. His Coverage has been bad and he’s not being as Aggressive as he should be. He can Fix this as can the Coaching Staff but they have to want to fix it.
The first play was cover 2 .. just good offensive play to catch between Devin and the flat player .. if he goes too fast and the wr comes inside - instead of a 5 yard gain, it’ll be an explosive play

a lot of those mistakes felt like he was told to play lamar first to a degree that he did not pay attention to the rest of the play developing around him. at times he looked really good but a lot of times it just ended up like the clips you showed when he just would stick to playing lamar instead of going coverage first
Dating back to last year, teams have begun to play that very undisciplined and irresponsible defense. They've been coached to "Only Play Lamar" Dating back to TNF vs the Dolphins. The Ravens absolutely abused the Dolphins for that coverage in Week 2, and the Defense folded. The Ravens have punished that Cover 0, because DBs didn't even play the WRs, all eyes were on Lamar when you watch the All-22 Vs the Dolphins in Miami Last Year.
His decision making in the run game has been heavily affected by the loss of Suh. Those holes are not that clear and open anymore. His X and O’s IQ is being exposed.
I think it’s a bit harsh to say he’s not a very good player. I think he’s a good player but he gets wayyyyy too caught up in his own physical hype. Yes he’s like the fastest linebacker in the league. But you’re not chasing down WRs. He gets way too out of position and relies on his physical speed instead of the mental part of the game.
I think its well warranted. Sure he's one of the physically gifted talents at LB but that don't mean shit if he can't read the field and make the best decision on a consistent basis. Especially when other parts of the Bucs defense aren't at 100% so the margin of errors are limited in giving up a potentially big play.

The first two plays he playing hook to flats. he got over a little late, the center play vea was a shaded 1 tech should have held the center up from hitting the second level, Devin should have hit that A gap hard, getting blocked by a rb like that is inexcusable, but what other lb you have is athletic as White? he had bad plays but i think that defense was gassed, when it was 10-3 they held the Ravens to 7 straight punts before they tied the game 10-10 offense has to do something

I think he's a great player. Without him during the SB run, GB would have won the matchup. He is not a bad player.
