They took over, and used their business knowledge and fame to improve Wrexham football club and the surrounding areas. Why not have a go at premier sides ,who spend stupid money on players that fail, Wrexham in the last three years have bought players for thousands, not millions? All who have played their part. As much cash Ryan Reynolds and his friend have, they do not have the billions needed to enter the Premier League.
Yes, to get into the Premier league, they'll have to build their way into it. Heck, if they win promotion after one or two goes at League One, they can't afford to buy a team that is a division above Championship quality ... they likely will have to build their way into the top half of the Championship.
And no matter how much you spend, the team have got to win it on the pitch ... just a touch of taking it easy in the NL promotion campaign, and they could have found themselves behind Notts County and facing another playoff to get up.

At the end of the day Wrexham were sold to rich celebrity owners who were able to use their connections to build a major platform for the team & get major sponsors. They’re trying to climb up the pyramid towards the Premier League which is a compelling story that can be sold to the masses hence there’s a show following them. I don’t see the point of this video acting like they’re doing anything wrong. At the end of the day in football you have to have money to win & attract players

Regarding Ben Foster, He had retired and stayed retired for 9 months. He had also been on loan to Wrexham when Sir Alex Ferguson saw him and brought him to Man United, where he was on loan. The reason Sir Alex saw him was that his son Darren was on the Wrexham team at the time.
In his mind, Wrexham gave him the opportunity that brought him to the Premier League. He saw this, in some way, as paying back a debt.
Unfortunately Knowing about Ben Foster being at the club previously would take 30 seconds of research and this joker has clearly not even put that much effort in.

Completely ignoring the fact that they were relegated from league one as they had a 10 point deduction, and had to sell there best players due to a corrupt owner who got the club put into administration. Wrexham were the first club in the EFL to have points deducted as the previous year Leicester were in administration and got promoted to the premiership. The following season in league two the owner offered no transfer money. Eventually Wrexham fans had to go to the high court in London which forced the owner to sell the club in 2006. However, it was then sold to two local property developers who had no interest in the club either bar trying to move the club from its historical ground so they could build student accommodation for the near by university. They were eventually forced to sell to the Wrexham supporters trust in 2011 who kept the club afloat up until the take over of Rob and Ryan.
To be fair, name me any national league club that would not have done the same thing if given the chance. I think you are being a little bit unfair to wrexham. But I think it's more about hate and jealousy.

So much bitterness and so little actual facts. McLean was in league 1 with Wigan and left because they wouldn’t extend his contract. Fletcher was considering retirement. Foster played for expenses only. Arsenal paid the bulk of Okonkwo’s wages and he was on loan at Crewe in League 2 previously. Palmer cost less than Stockport paid for Madden and so on. BTW, accounts for the season just finished haven’t even been published so that’s all guess work too

There is not a single club or fanbase in this country that wouldn’t do the same as what Wrexham have.
Rich owners made a bid to buy the club, promising an injection of funds and to get the club out of the national league. Guess the fuck what? The bid was accepted. It would have been a disgrace if it wasn’t. The previous custodians of the club had the best interests of the club in mind when they gave the go ahead to Ryan and Rob.
Since the purchase, Wrexham has benefited on and off the pitch. Both the club and town.

What you and many others just cannot grasp and find it hard to live with, is that it was Wrexham who has had this exposure and not your club or dare I say it, some other English club. Ever since the first season of Welcome to Wrexham became a global hit, anti-welsh sentiment has definitely come out of the woodwork.

Its a lot of damn luck in that Wrexham was a team that got these two as owners. I'm pretty sure any club in the National League would have loved to have had this happen to them. These guy brought in money, and more importantly eye balls.
But to be fair, Wrexham brought a lot to the table for the doco to be successful ... it would be a lot harder to get supporters through the Doco if it was a team like the MK Dons than for the third oldest surviving club in football in northern Wales in a steel-making and coal-mining town that has had the mines close and the steel mills shut down.

Geographical location, history, team financial situation, timing, someone randomly making a life decision after watching a docu-series, and more. Such an insane statistical chance of it all coming together. I would say its a football fans dream come true really - you wouldn't believe it if you weren't seeing it for yourself.

Obvious click bait. Good luck to Wrexham and Wrexham Holdings LLC; (Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney) and their front man Humphrey Ker. One could call it a fairy tail story I'm sure many Wrexham fans do and as for the money they have put in, peanuts, £2 million to buy the club and that is it. Due to the owners fame they have attracted some juicy sponsorship meaning they can pay above average wages and with some clever marketing and its resulting revenue adds additional funds to the coffers. Should others be jealous or envious? We have plenty of retired famous footballs/personalities worth more than them have they done anything similar? I guess Salford and the ManUtd gang of 5 but even they have done nothing like Wrexham in fact they were lucky not to get relegated this year back to the Conference, Wrexham have put them to shame being promoted to Division One. I look forward to following Wrexham's fortunes next season, can they make it 3 in a row and get promoted to the Championship?

If you're genuinely worried about the harm of 'devious' ownership in football, there's actually a few clubs in a perilous position due to bad owners not caring about a club and it's fans, I'll start you off with a few if you wish to make a video: Ron Martin at Southend, Dai Yongge at Reading & the Bond group at Morecambe - there's plenty more if you're wanting to highlight it...
Now you seem to insulate every player, since the takeover has signed for Wrexham for money, you're not wrong, just like every player before the takeover signed for money - it's their job and if they can earn a little bit more, good luck to them, I'm sure anyone would want to increase their salary for doing the same job. Football though is a very short career so you'd take money over what tier you play in, in the lower leagues.
You say about there being no FFP in the national league, I bet every Wrexham fan wished there was when we fell through the trap door to non league as we would have been promoted a long time ago. Teams were bankrolled at that time way above their natural order, Crawley, Fleetwood, Forest Green Rovers & Salford spring to mind, Christ, even Newport had Euro millions winner Les Scadding giving them money for players, when they beat us in the play off final 2012/13. Even teams that didn't go up were out bidding us on players despite us getting 2 or 3 times their crowds.
The problem with the NL is there is only one automatic promotion place (play offs are a lottery). So there is little room for error, hence why 9/10 times the team with best budget goes up.

Ben Foster.
You didn't mention in the video but he actually played on loan at Wrexham in 2004/05, Alex Ferguson was watching his son play for Wrexham in the Football League Trophy Final, Fergie liked what he saw and signed him for Man United, he always says he was indebted to us for springboarding his career, and it came full circle with him singing for us after being retired for 8 months. In his own words he signed "for peanuts really, just expenses"
Arthur Okonkwo.
Arsenal were paying the majority of his wages, he played in L2 the previous season too, for Crewe Alex. Arsenal have just released him after being the club for 15 years.
Ollie Palmer.
He didn't want to leave his boyhood club AFC Wimbledon, but he did want security, AFCW wouldn't commit to a longer contract for him, they wanted a younger squad. You're quite correct the £300,000 for him is a record transfer for NL, just ahead of the £275k (£410k adj for inflation) that Crawley paid for Richard Brodie in 2010.
Paul Mullin.
Now, I'm sure he earns a really good salary but in his own words, he could have earned more elsewhere before he made the decision to sign for and a lot more since he's been with us, if he moved on. However after he'd been commuting to Cambridge from Liverpool he said he didn't want to be so far away from his family again, if a Championship club comes in for him in the north-west this summer that could change, but I don't think any would take the risk.
James McClean.
He's played a lot of top level football, but was actually in L1 with Wigan, so it was only a one division drop, the manager wanted to keep him but the board didn't.
Steve Fletcher.
Again, played a lot of good level football, but was basically retired and playing golf when we phoned him. Surprised we've offered him a new dead as he looks past it, despite his obvious qualities shining through from his cameo's off the bench. Wouldn't surprise me if he turns the deal down tbf and Hangs up his boots, he's had one last hurrah and a promotion after his previous seasons relegation with Dundee Utd.
You mentioned the losses by Wrexham, you're right, they're ludicrous to be fair, however Stockport (who beat us to the title this season by 4 points) lost £4.7m last season and £4.8m the previous one, can I ask will there be a video on them and their chairman Mark Stott "buying promotion"??

In fairness, R&R didn't personally use their wealth to get players in. Technically, they did it the 'right' way by generating income, but they did it the only way they can.
There's no chance in hell the average low tier teams (VNL-L1) generate merch sales, ticket sales, blue chip sponsorships, a documentary, and an on going new stand among other things the way they did. I would even argue that even if FFP were in effect, they won't go over it.
So they did raise up through the leagues technically 'fair and square', but i'd put the biggest factor on R&R's reach and influence on the clubs economy, not their own wealth specifically.

I was never a Football fan. Never. My sister made me watch the docuseries and I was hooked. I love the people of Wrexham. Rob and Ryan are doing the right thing in investing in Wrexham. They are putting in players that will get them to their goal. Its always a gamble cause players get hurt. I get your frustration but everyone is allowed to do the same.

You are missing how devious it is to try to attract players that are better than your opposition by offering them good wages and three year contracts and an opportunity to be part of a "project".
I’m a Stockport County fan who too have risen from the dead, to my way of thinking we’ve gone about our resurrection from local part-time football in an acceptable way with local businessman Mark Stott at the helm we don’t have the sponsorship that Wrexham have but at least our supremo knows the offside rule. Having finished above their ridiculous circus (again) this year, I’m intrigued to see how we compare next season… I can honestly see the film stars doing one one once they have a bad season and the fans turn on em. Their (proper) fans should be looking at starting a ‘Wrexham Trust’ for when it inevitably blows up in their face…I’ve seen it happen so many times at County over the last 50 years! They make no bones about thinking they’ll be able to compete in The Premiership within 5 years, we’ve never said that if we could get back to The Championship it’d be job done for us considering we were getting beat by Brackley/Vauxhall Motors/FC United amongst others not long ago.

Yes, they’ve spent money, but the argument that other teams couldn’t compete gets blown out of the water by Stockport, Chesterfield, notts county, Mansfield and all the other teams that competed with them.
Finally, although Wrexham itself is reasonably small, they are the sole representative of north wales in the football league, so they have a massive area to draw fans from.
They’re on a mission to get to the prem, I don’t see further back to back promotions, but I see them competing in L1, with another promotion in the next 3 to 4 years.

The first full season of Rob and Ryan's ownership was 22-23. They did not win that season.

Brought in Parkie as manager, first full season was 21-22, went 44-26-10 for 88 points and second on the ladder, lost in the playoff semi in Extra Time, second full season was 22-23, won the NL on 46-34-9, 111 points and promoted directly to the EFL. The successful League Two promotion campaign was their third full season in ownership.

So the summary of this video is that you are mad that people who have a very limited amount of years to earn a living in their career field are making money. I would get it if it was possible to work as a professional athlete of this level at the age of 65 or something like that but this a an opportunity to gain earning potential by these athletes that is technically available to every single other person in that sport, since that is true if other teams were smart they would do the exact same thing, there are plenty of famous people out there that could promote a team.
And Paul Mullin moved to be closer to home.

Regarding Ben Foster. He came out of retirement, he hadn't played or trained for over 8 months when the call came. He had his first shot at first team-footy at Wrexham back in the day as well. Both of these facts are well-known. As for his pay? Very modest. As you know he has his own channels and part of this deal was that he would be able to create his own content. This is also well-known. Just digging
I think they may find next season more difficult, league one is a tough division and having sides like Birmingham, Bolton, Huddersfield, will have similar if not more financial muscle than Wrexham, certainly Birmingham will. They didn't win the division last year either so clearly sides can complete with them. If they find themselves in league one for a few seasons they will struggle to maintain what they are doing as excitement will wain. If they do make it to the championship then they will be a side fighting at the bottom as they certainly won't be able to compete with parachute payment clubs or other big sides pulling in crowds twice or three times the size of them. It's quite common for a side who gets promoted from the national league to jump into league one spending just one season in league two.

It does look quite a bit like when Andrew Pilley took over Fleetwood, taking them from non league to the League One play-offs on more than one occasion. He attracted big name managers at that level, but when he got sent down for 13 years last year Fleetwood ended up being relegated back to League Two.
As an American still learning about this system, as far as I'm concerned the top tiers get millions upon millions as a safety net even if they get relegated. Your whole system is set up on the basis of more money=more likely to get promoted. So why is it so bad wrexham is?

Your entire argument boils down to "Wrexham found good quality investors and the other teams didn't".
Every other team had and has the opportunity to find a significant investor, which is an important (but not the only) step a team needs to take to start that climb up.

The big difference with the big clubs is that my Man City cheated on the rules in order to spend big on players, instead of following the rules.
The reason Arsenal chose Wrexham for Okonkwo was that he would get playing-time. Other younger keepers from Prem-teams could be found at Isthmian Premier(Ted Curd Hashtag United), National South, National North and National League(several in there actually) with a few more in League 2. But that does not fit your "agenda", right?
And in League Two, he would get a challenge to test whether he would get rattled by a crowded box.

Ofc Wrexham's owners will use the connections they have to maximize the chances of success but if you were clued in their main goals is to make the operation sustainable. They want this to be for the long run, not just for the now and here.

In a perfect world the top 20 most active owners will run the top 20 clubs. And the next twenty will fit into the next rung, and so on.
There isn't exactly a system in place where a (let's pretend) 25th most active owner is capable of purchasing a team, and then buying a slot that fits according their willingness to spend. Because of this they're forced to either buy a club that's already at that level OR buy a lower level club and see if their money and business decisions bare fruit.
The EFL does this so that there is still some level of Meritocracy to thr sport -- you're describing a FEATURE not a FLAW. If jt doesn't work money will run out and it'll prove that their money couldn't overcome their own incompetence.. likewise, if it does work then their money, paired WITH their competence will place their club in their deserved spot.
Taking issue with the sponsors though? Really, bro? You're fussy that a club knew how to market itself well? You do get that you yourself have loads of sponsors on your own screen as you speak.

Yes, money has been a massive factor in Wrexham's rise but your cynicism concerning why players have dropped down is partially unfounded. Mullin was commuting from Liverpool to Cambridge. Wrexham is just over the bridge. Palmer took a gamble but he's happy and he's being supported in a business venture for after football. Lee is the happiest he's ever been. McClean and Fletcher will get decent extensions of their careers. Neither is washed up yet. I see all these players (probably not Palmer) being around in the Championship. Whatever you reckon, it's been a great story so far.

There are rules governing how much wage you can pay your players so i dont see how the club has done anything wrong.
