What we must not bring back from the grave is the war that the ghosts of imperialism in history will bring.

i think you're missing the point because you're not used to the culture. what's truly dreadful for asian cultures is not the jump scares or the peak moments, its thre trepedition before the blow out. also a type of horror that's more about the impending feeling of doom and a simple but effective conclusion was very refreshing and relatable to asian audiences. So i really think you need to be a lil more open to accepting the world and the culture that this movie brings to you.

While it's true that I'm not all that familiar with what Asian cultures find scary, I can only express my opinion watching this movie as an international viewer, prior to knowing any cultural significance. Although, I did compliment how the historical and cultural influences create a unique experience when it comes to the horror, and how I thought the mystery element and world building was intriguing.
So I wouldn't say I'm not open to accepting the world and culture the movie offers. I just personally didn't think the way this movie sets up and navigates these ideas and the story to be all that effective, so I leaned towards the more entertaining side of the movie and felt underwhelmed with most of the execution.
