Feels like this video is exactly for me. I have been a roadie for more than a decade and just bought the first XC mtb and have been trying to learn the MTB skills. Funny thing is I actually have the exact same bike model, Orbea Oiz Rich is riding.
XC is the best🥳🤩 I love that there is always content about this on your channel I would also love to see more stuff on XC hardtails because they are better than most people think🚵😎
I don't think you've ever mentioned using the terrain to lower your dropper. I sometimes wait until the first bump and hold the dropper lever and let the post compress when the bike rises over the bump.
Nice. Good video. I am a parasport athlete. I have been stepping back into mtn biking and grabbed an old SCOTT 960. Threw some after markets parts on it. Like a 4 piston front brake with both front and rear disks being upsized. (180mm) The bike feels exactly as you described it. I do think it has made me a more in tune rider. However, i am really excited for next year when i buy my new enduro bike. 🍻
Hans Ray knows. I just recently got dropper posts after 30+ yrs of riding, you could do a lot on a small short bike with steep HT angles you just have to see yourself as a lever and the bike as a pivot instead of riding a mx with no engine 😅
Coming from a BMX trail riding background, running PSI’s in the 20’s makes me feel like I’m running on flat tires. Something I’m trying to get used to.
Why organic pads in summer? In my mind they makes sense only in winter, with no need to warm up like metallic and less risk to overheat and glaze the resin...
was thinking about a gravel bike 'cos of the hype but I don't know..., I am not entirely sure I fancy it. Even for bikepacking a MTB is better and more all-purpose, specially a XC MTB. I have a "normal" 3X MTB but in the future my idea is to get a 1X XC cross country, relatively light, bike. Plus a XC MTB gives you the option to switch to basically any tire you want. Either that or something like a trekking bike, like the Riverside 920 by Decathlon or similar, but the XC bike seems more appealing to me.
Cost Cost Cost , I haven't got the budget to just go out and buy a dropper post, even at the age of 60, never mind being a young lad in my early teens. Just go out and ride, enjoy, whatever you ride, On whatever budget.
How does an XC full squish bike compare to a slack head angle hard tail in this scenario?I've never had an XC bike, but I am cross country curios😮 I love swapping my Enduro wheels for xc wheels and tires and riding my Meta Ht
These advice pieces always cast XC brakes as “weak”. Is this over played? I’m lucky enough to have “just” 2-pot XT. Locking the back is easy with one finger, and the front happily lifts the back wheel as long as the front tyre has traction. At that point, it’s a balance between loading the front tyre and going over the bars. Am I missing something?

Fiddlesticks, loosey goosey, don't plough it, feathery/turneyer/grabby, soft - Got it!
I mean when you put it like that 😂😂😂

Thanks for the tips, I have an XC style Polygon carbon hardtail MTB 😊

Thank god I graded up on a decent fully trail bike. Much more fun in the wild! Wouldn't go back. Full sus is life!
this theme exactly what I needed for my next weekends race, thx!
Best of luck! Hope it goes well 😁
How to DH on an XC, simple really: hold on and AGGGHHHHHHHH 😂
Thank you this is what I needed
Man I didn't know you can put inserts on XC. Thanks for sharing the setup, I've learned new stuff.

I use the Vittoria Xc/Trail Barzo tires on my OIZ (front and rear). Makes it also a more capable bike.
Same here 👍
I just have brand new set one of my 2018 Orbea Alma 29x2.35 in the front barzo and 29x2.25 Mezcal in the rear on Dtswiss 1700 xr wheels
Nice! The Barzo is a solid tyre for mixed conditions :)

To be honest, a lot of modern Xc bikes have similar geo to enduro bikes from the 2010's, just 20mm less suspension.
3:32 Okay, I felt that from here. 🇨🇦
Garmin holding on for dear life out the front!
Here comes The Payne 💪
By far the best upgrade done to my MTB is the dropper post. I’ve been a lot faster on the drops and downhills

Rode down from the highest mountain pass in the world on a XC bike on the Yak Attack.

Ahhhhhh, fiddle sticks 😂
JUST SEND IT!
I would like to see you racing at a XC race with a downhill bike
Ah fiddle sticks my dropper... After you have knackered yourself it a few times I am sure you remember quickly.
Needs drop bars ;p And forget that dropper. Love shredding on the rigid.
Video maybe featuring some drop bars coming soon 😉

Hi gmbn ❤
Hi Filip 👋
Some proper MTB trail riding on the xc none of this up and down rutted out enduro

Big differences. Full squish are really top sitting. Your up high.
A proper HT like your meta are far more back seat when riding.
🍻
So, basically, it's the same technique set as riding a trail/enduro/downhill bike.

All modern hydraulic disc brakes are powerful. Simply put, >XC brakes are *more* powerful.
Best xc under 1000?

Kona Mahuna. See: MBR hardtail of the year 2022 video.
You can get an on one whippet with gx for about £800 on cycle to work. Otherwise as said above 2nd hand might be best.
@@barfo281 Yep!
why the hell is the dropper up on the thumbnail
