I think law does have fundamental design limiting factors and will eventually break again, my view on Black Maria is the same. Recurring 5 Don is just flatly overturned, the math is too much. It restricts -Don effects in purple. If I had the final call to make this decision, it would be super easy for me. Leader lock Maria to Animal kingdom, leader lock Gecko to thriller bark and leader lock Reiju to germa/vinsmoke. This would allow every card to be playable and have a home. It allows Gecko/Perona, Law, Kaido to all be powerful decks with a reason to play them, but I highly doubt any of them would be in ban territory representation. Back to my early point that these cards will be broken in the future, I shameless advocate for kicking that can down the road for now.

i think black maria is the same thing that yellow hiyori because yellow can abuse certain effect with her, just once she's played. If errata must be, the text will be " activate main: if it's the turn this character was played, add 5 don rest etc.... " Nami will be errata at 4 life and enel at 3 life. Because both of them play a passive game, and to have 1 life less, should change their playing style a bit.

People tend to say they hate bans and want Errata, but I've never found an actual reason why that's different and/or better than a ban and replacement with a new version. Is cost/card investment a real metric to consider when tuning a game? For my taste I'd rather lose the money on a deck and have a better meta than get to keep using a broken deck in an unbalanced meta. Law: I'm fully ban and print a promo. If we get a law that's exactly the same, but pay 3 instead of minus that would probably be fine. There's a ton of viable versions of the law text that would work and still be playable. Gordon: Hard agree. Not worth touching. Kid/Killer: Card is strong, but I think it's playing it for free that pushes it over. My big thought is that no other red deck really plays it. Functionally they’re the same but one screws over people that financially invested in the card that could’ve simply been errataed. For example if Saka had gotten an errata you could still get use out of your previous alt art and retain some amount of the value, but by outright banning it instead and printing a promo with a new card # the previous card is completely illegal and loses all of its value unnecessarily. It’s pretty much executing the same thing but in a more underhanded way that’s needlessly detrimental to players who invested. Also glad you actually listened to all of our takes! Look at it like this, when Nami plays Kaya she breaks even in card advantage but her hand shrinks by 1. The same play with Cabaji breaks even the first time and every time after that your hand actually starts getting bigger. (Reworded to make it easier to understand)
As the video closed out you guys started talking about something that I found super interesting and wish it was more expanded on. Maybe another video idea but a discussion on what bans you think would be the best to ensure that 08 leaders are more viable (see competitive results)
Gecko could hit restrictions or errata for the same reason of game design around 4c and lower units. In any multicolor leader, plus black, gecko can be played and you can never know what sort of interactions might come out of it. As mentioned, with BY luffy and the babies: +6 don with gecko ability turns into +10; of you crazy, gecko into Rebecca and baby, Rebecca plays another baby, and you're at +14 don. Gecko needs more than a slap on the wrist for future game design and to allow other cards to be played!
The thing about Law is just today you’d have to hit 3 different cards to keep Law in the game. Gecko will eventually get to that point but not today. The only leader that pushes him over the top we nerfed with the Enies hit. The other 2 leaders that play him are simply well rounded leaders with a handful of bad matchups. Maybe OP09+ Gecko finally gets the card pool that pushes him over the top, but not today. If only 1 leader breaks him currently, it’s best to just deal with that 1 specific leader.
I don’t think it’d be a sufficient fix since ideally he’s bottom decking 99% of the time anyway. I do like that your suggestion at least introduces some amount of counter play though.
I am afraid of how cracked a generic yellow leader, black boss monster or, a rp leader would have to be to push out enel, gecko, and rp law without heavy bans.
I agree with Law and Ennies Loby being banned and with Moria at 1. However, the Enel player is completly biased, Ace is way to good for that leader, is like adding rush to a blue Kaido or a Doflamingo. I think Enel should either need Don for its ability or cost 2 cards from hand.
Another aspect to Raise max/Gordon not being ban worthy is that they are card disadvantage. It's a real cost to spend a card in hand and rest a don to reduce power, especially the double gordon to hit 7-9k. The balancing act of RP law is losing so much Don which is totally negated by Maria AND it dumps it's hand, running out of gas.
I feel like the argument around not banning leaders bc people spent lots of money on the deck is a bit bad. If you’re buying a near tier 0 deck you should be expecting it to catch bans. That is the precedent in almost all card games. That’s more on players making bad financial decisions. If you are not competing at a high level it’s just not smart to shell out lots of cash for the best deck when everyone is saying it’s going to get banned.
To be fair between the 3 of them only 1 brought that up and even then his overall argument was leaders shouldn’t be banned they should be reworked. The price point thing was just a funny comment briefly mentioned, laughed at, then moved on from without entertaining it as if it was a legitimate point being made. Even then he spent more time talking about the time invested rather than the money and even that was brief.
Trevor spent so little time on that topic that I had to rewatch the video to confirm it was even said. Yeah, less than 10 seconds was spent on that topic so it’s kinda weird imo for that to be your takeaway from that entire discussion.

I think CP0 lucci should be restricted to 1 I feel like that card is the thing gatekeeping smaller body decks from seeing any play and it is what is facilitating crazy Moria combos. SecR Sabo has the same effect but it’s not good bc it’s actually costed correctly while lucci barely has any cost and has a vanilla stat line that Moria and Rebecca can play from the trash. Going 2 for 1 in this game will always be broken unless it is costed appropriately which lucci is not.
I think it’s hard to justify restricting 4c Lucci when the card severely underperforms outside of Lucci. Even Gecko dropped it after OP06. If the card itself was the inherent problem we’d see other black leaders trying to leverage it, but instead it goes neglected. The real problem imo is that Enies Lobby + Leader lets 4c Lucci KO a combined total of 6 don of value without having to spend any extra don. Add tempest kick into the mix and his threshold hits even higher. A 4c should never be answering 6c worth of don and without all of those other factors it isn’t. 4c is generic and sees play in 1 deck meanwhile if Enies Lobby was generic every black deck would play it. I can see where you’re coming from though.
just a curious question. how come double attack against enel on 1 life doesnt double hit him including his healed life? cause thats how it works when amaru trigger happens. the amaru trigger gives you a life then that life gets hit. so enel hits 0 then has to heal then second hit goes through?
If Amaru is the first life taken, the damage is still resolving in that case because you check one trigger at a time. Enel's ability doesn't take effect until after Yamato's double attack resolves. That's my understanding of it, at least. Hopefully it made sense. Lol

I don't know if OP has timing checks that would force a miss from Enel, though. Never really understood them in Yugioh, but I would think that would be a moment that happens.
8c Gecko is not bannable in OP07 and he isn’t bannable in OP08. He has a broken play in Lucci who we dealt with by banning Enies. His plays in current winning Gecko leader lists don’t pop anything above 5c. The only other meta relevant leader that plays him is BY Luffy who is a well rounded leader with a handful of multiple bad matchups. We acknowledged later on down the line when the card pool grows he’ll likely warrant a ban due to his lack of restrictions but that day isn’t today. Either way it’s clear Bandai agreed. Thinking current day Gecko needs to be banned is a very shortsighted/casual take.
If you want to fix law I feel just ban Black Maria or leader lock it. That way law won’t be as broken it’ll still be the same but with no Black Maria. People can still play the deck and if that’s not enough you can add a cost as well of law’s effect. Trash 1 card -3 don and bottom deck 3k lower and play out a 4 cost.
I think Colin said it best, there will always be more Black Marias later on down the line. If we’re going to have to repeatedly cross this bridge every time an abuseable card is printed and other cards have to keep being hit or restricted to keep Law in the game, he should either be banned or get an errata.
I like your argument for yellow identity. I think it's a bit annoying the other guy laughed it off... All the other colors are playing with identities still. I want gedatsu and raigo banned for those reasons. Yellow's removal should be katakuri-like effects. Otherwise I agree with the majority of the list. Personally I think law should be banned. You can't just not print good 4 costs for red/purple forever. They're the two worst colors in the game, putting aside law. Also, Nami can't be the best deck even if she receives no hits because even if everyone was playing Nami mirrors, an aggro list would just pop up. Belo Betty would become good, for example, just to beat Nami.
Bruh that kid and killer ban idea is terrible. Kid and killer is a must for RY Sabo. Kid and killer isn't even a problematic card. I wish there was more objectivetivity in the list making. Some of these placements on the list seem a bit scewed to just keep R/P Law not banned even though we banned Sakazuki for way less. You just have to accept the fact that he is limitting deck design and will most likely get a weaker promo of it. It isn't that big of a deal. I also don't like how the two bottom commentators were super hypocritical about the Reiju placement.
Colin agreed that the card to hit would be RP Law himself and also specified that out of all the cards tied to RP Law mentioned, you’d only have to hit 1 of them so if hitting Law then the rest are fine, but if not hitting Law then you’d hit KnK or Maria instead. I will say though that I don’t think they were hypocritical since the argument with Reiju versus the rest is that you can’t hit her since her own leader would be affected by it while KnK aside from Law is only played in a deck that most people justifiably forget exists. Even Trevor argued that Law should get an errata so they’re both in agreement that Law in his current form shouldn’t continue to exist.

KnK is a closer, not unlike Hody. Sure the don investment is different but you've gotta consider that these are cards that exist to give you a chance to win in a bad spot.
As a Nami player, I can't help but hear a lot of criticism sound like salt. She is so easy to beat when you know how she plays. The fact is she almost never wins big tournaments. You will usually only see like 3 or 4 Nami players even reach top 64 while you see like 20 lucci and 15 RP Law players, yet you put Nami in the problematic category? That is such a huge tell on how salty you guys are. You put white snake and Gecko in the same category! What a joke! I've met Black players who know the matchup who I can't beat. Whitesnake isn't a problem in the slightest. Nami can play perfectly and still lose if the opponent knows what they are doing. The win is almost completely up to how the opponent builds his board and swings. Nami is only solitaire in the mirror match. The fact that one of you even brought that up is such a huge self report.

I am afraid of how cracked a generic yellow leader, black boss monster or, a rp leader would have to be to push out enel, gecko, and rp law without heavy bans.

I agree with Law and Ennies Loby being banned and with Moria at 1. However, the Enel player is completly biased, Ace is way to good for that leader, is like adding rush to a blue Kaido or a Doflamingo. I think Enel should either need Don for its ability or cost 2 cards from hand.
Another aspect to Raise max/Gordon not being ban worthy is that they are card disadvantage.
It's a real cost to spend a card in hand and rest a don to reduce power, especially the double gordon to hit 7-9k.
The balancing act of RP law is losing so much Don which is totally negated by Maria AND it dumps it's hand, running out of gas.

I feel like the argument around not banning leaders bc people spent lots of money on the deck is a bit bad. If you’re buying a near tier 0 deck you should be expecting it to catch bans. That is the precedent in almost all card games. That’s more on players making bad financial decisions. If you are not competing at a high level it’s just not smart to shell out lots of cash for the best deck when everyone is saying it’s going to get banned.
To be fair between the 3 of them only 1 brought that up and even then his overall argument was leaders shouldn’t be banned they should be reworked. The price point thing was just a funny comment briefly mentioned, laughed at, then moved on from without entertaining it as if it was a legitimate point being made. Even then he spent more time talking about the time invested rather than the money and even that was brief.
Trevor spent so little time on that topic that I had to rewatch the video to confirm it was even said. Yeah, less than 10 seconds was spent on that topic so it’s kinda weird imo for that to be your takeaway from that entire discussion.

I think CP0 lucci should be restricted to 1 I feel like that card is the thing gatekeeping smaller body decks from seeing any play and it is what is facilitating crazy Moria combos. SecR Sabo has the same effect but it’s not good bc it’s actually costed correctly while lucci barely has any cost and has a vanilla stat line that Moria and Rebecca can play from the trash. Going 2 for 1 in this game will always be broken unless it is costed appropriately which lucci is not.
I think it’s hard to justify restricting 4c Lucci when the card severely underperforms outside of Lucci. Even Gecko dropped it after OP06. If the card itself was the inherent problem we’d see other black leaders trying to leverage it, but instead it goes neglected. The real problem imo is that Enies Lobby + Leader lets 4c Lucci KO a combined total of 6 don of value without having to spend any extra don. Add tempest kick into the mix and his threshold hits even higher. A 4c should never be answering 6c worth of don and without all of those other factors it isn’t. 4c is generic and sees play in 1 deck meanwhile if Enies Lobby was generic every black deck would play it. I can see where you’re coming from though.

just a curious question. how come double attack against enel on 1 life doesnt double hit him including his healed life? cause thats how it works when amaru trigger happens. the amaru trigger gives you a life then that life gets hit. so enel hits 0 then has to heal then second hit goes through?
If Amaru is the first life taken, the damage is still resolving in that case because you check one trigger at a time.
Enel's ability doesn't take effect until after Yamato's double attack resolves.

I don't know if OP has timing checks that would force a miss from Enel, though. Never really understood them in Yugioh, but I would think that would be a moment that happens.
Saying 8c moria isn't ban worthy is an odd take
8c Gecko is not bannable in OP07 and he isn’t bannable in OP08. He has a broken play in Lucci who we dealt with by banning Enies. His plays in current winning Gecko leader lists don’t pop anything above 5c. The only other meta relevant leader that plays him is BY Luffy who is a well rounded leader with a handful of multiple bad matchups. We acknowledged later on down the line when the card pool grows he’ll likely warrant a ban due to his lack of restrictions but that day isn’t today. Either way it’s clear Bandai agreed. Thinking current day Gecko needs to be banned is a very shortsighted/casual take.
If you want to fix law I feel just ban Black Maria or leader lock it. That way law won’t be as broken it’ll still be the same but with no Black Maria. People can still play the deck and if that’s not enough you can add a cost as well of law’s effect. Trash 1 card -3 don and bottom deck 3k lower and play out a 4 cost.
I think Colin said it best, there will always be more Black Marias later on down the line. If we’re going to have to repeatedly cross this bridge every time an abuseable card is printed and other cards have to keep being hit or restricted to keep Law in the game, he should either be banned or get an errata.

Otherwise I agree with the majority of the list. Personally I think law should be banned. You can't just not print good 4 costs for red/purple forever. They're the two worst colors in the game, putting aside law.
Also, Nami can't be the best deck even if she receives no hits because even if everyone was playing Nami mirrors, an aggro list would just pop up. Belo Betty would become good, for example, just to beat Nami.

Bruh that kid and killer ban idea is terrible. Kid and killer is a must for RY Sabo. Kid and killer isn't even a problematic card. I wish there was more objectivetivity in the list making. Some of these placements on the list seem a bit scewed to just keep R/P Law not banned even though we banned Sakazuki for way less. You just have to accept the fact that he is limitting deck design and will most likely get a weaker promo of it. It isn't that big of a deal. I also don't like how the two bottom commentators were super hypocritical about the Reiju placement.
Colin agreed that the card to hit would be RP Law himself and also specified that out of all the cards tied to RP Law mentioned, you’d only have to hit 1 of them so if hitting Law then the rest are fine, but if not hitting Law then you’d hit KnK or Maria instead. I will say though that I don’t think they were hypocritical since the argument with Reiju versus the rest is that you can’t hit her since her own leader would be affected by it while KnK aside from Law is only played in a deck that most people justifiably forget exists. Even Trevor argued that Law should get an errata so they’re both in agreement that Law in his current form shouldn’t continue to exist.
Fair enough but kid and killer is needed in other red decks to close the game and after the Rodger reveal, kid and killer isn't going to get used for the finish since you just Rodger.
KnK is a closer, not unlike Hody. Sure the don investment is different but you've gotta consider that these are cards that exist to give you a chance to win in a bad spot.

As a Nami player, I can't help but hear a lot of criticism sound like salt. She is so easy to beat when you know how she plays.
The fact is she almost never wins big tournaments. You will usually only see like 3 or 4 Nami players even reach top 64 while you see like 20 lucci and 15 RP Law players, yet you put Nami in the problematic category?
That is such a huge tell on how salty you guys are. You put white snake and Gecko in the same category! What a joke!
I've met Black players who know the matchup who I can't beat. Whitesnake isn't a problem in the slightest.
Nami can play perfectly and still lose if the opponent knows what they are doing. The win is almost completely up to how the opponent builds his board and swings. Nami is only solitaire in the mirror match.

I didn’t entertain your argument because it’s clear you’re just a casual player who has no idea what they’re talking about. What you said was the equivalent of telling a RG Law player the only reason they’re losing to Lucci is because they don’t know the matchup. TheLuffyTV is a Gecko who literally went undefeated in a 10 round regional 1 day then the next day lost round 2 to a Nami and going into the matchup already knew it would be a loss because the matchup is so lopsided. Quit talking like you have any idea what you’re talking about when it’s immediately evident you’re an average player at best by the way you have such a shallow understanding of how the nuances of matchups work.
“Just learn the matchup hurr durr” I literally addressed the knowledge check in the video and said why it alone is insufficient because knowing the matchup doesn’t change the fact Nami is still too fast for decks like Gecko, Bonnie & Enel to reliably meet the win condition. If you’re losing to these leaders more often than you’re winning then you’re just a bad Nami pilot, it’s as simple as that. It’s fine to be casual but know your place when it comes to speaking on topics beyond playing at a local. You’re just salty someone had criticism for the leader you play. I’m friends with some of the best Nami players on the planet and even they acknowledge she’s good this format for the exact reasons stated in the video.
