  • The Texas Legislature attacked faith freedom by passing SB 763, which lets anyone who can pass a background check be called a “chaplain” and have access to children in the state’s public schools. School districts in Texas have until March 1, 2024, to vote on making these programs permanent, and Texas chaplains and Texans of faith are calling out the dangers of this misguided program.
In this video, hear testimony from Lisa Jacob during the Mansfield Independent School District’s meeting on Dec. 12, 2023, as they consider the program. Rejecting SB 763 protects children, religious freedom, public schools, communities of faith, and professional chaplains. Allowing anything else opens the door for bad actors who have no business being in our public schools.

The school district rejected the SB 763 proposal, but made sure that someone who happens to be a chaplain is allowed to volunteer with the school, as long as it's congruent with their existing volunteer policy.
