I have the X2 version of this 2022 Wolverine x-tr. Love it. I had concerns with the back seat room when i purchased so i bought the X2. Very good, fun and extremely reliable machine. You just cant go wrong with Yamaha quality. Only regret is i purchased before the Wolverine 1000 was introduced!!
I can say the 850 is better for the fact that the 1000 is really loud and not that much more bike really I own 850 and drove a lot of 1000 and I would take 850.
I have the same X4 as you. I've had it just a little over a year and have 3,300 miles on it. I do a lot of logging roads and National Forest Rds. in the Cherokee National Forest. I usually have my 90 year old Father with me and I feel very comfortable with the reliability of this machine. My factory wheels needed replacing at 3,300. (I just put new ones on) The only thing I wish Yamaha would fix is the pingpong type noise you get when you're going over 35 mph on hotter days. On forums I have read this is from the radiator lines and they do give some suggestions to stop it, but I haven't bothered. I've ridden with 4 adults, my passengers were both 250 lbs. and it did it with no problem. Still love this machine.
Thanks for the real world review. I'm debating between this and the Teryx-4. I've ridden in a Teryx and it was a nice machine but obnoxiously loud and the battery and other components were in a a very odd place. Yamaha also has a better reputation for reliability, not that Kawi's don't but if I were a betting man I know where my money is going. Probably going to just have to test them both anyway.
That’s interesting you mentioned the noise. My brand new grizzly worried the hell out of me about 100km in. It smelled like burning paint and rattled like crazy. Now it’s great after it’s broken in!
I’m looking at getting a 4 seater side by side also. Got a Yamaha rhino right now but it don’t really work anymore with two kids. Debating on keeping the rhino for a yard machine and getting the Wolverine X4. Great review.
I have a '20 wolverine x2 and chose it because people had said the yamaha was quieter and had better suspension than the pioneer. I did compare it to a polaris at the time of purchase and it was night and day quieter but not as quiet as my atv's. Wife and daughter love the yamaha. They now prefer it over the atv's. Its been reliable and we have had it on the trails in wisconsin many times. The 850 has more than enough power for us. Like the video says it does get great mpg and has a good size tank. On our trail rides most of our friends have to top off well before we do. The one thing the pioneer has that I wish the yamaha had is the turf mode where the pioneer can unlock the rear axle. With the stock tires and the always locked rear end the yamaha did tear up our yard and it doesn't matter how many times you tell your family to make wide turns they aren't going to. LoL. I put a less agressive tire on the sxs which helped a lot. This scenario also stinks when you are on pavement because the rear will chirp and hop around durinig tight turns. The otherside of this is less parts to break on the trail I guess. I believe the pioneer also went through many recalls because of excessive heat and other issues which steered me away. I believe they have fixed all that now. Even though I am a die hard honda guy when its time to upgrade my yamaha it will probably be for a yamaha Rmax.
@@spyder000069 I really appreicate your input on this. Defintly helps hearing it from someone that has one. I'm not crazy about the bench seat in the Honda, and I've heard about heat issues on them also. I really like the Kawasaki Teryx, I have a couple friends with them, and they've held up great, BUT, they are so damn loud and the heat....horrible. I want quite as possible and ride comfort too. Like you the only downside is i wish it had the unlocking rear diff, and maybea tad more top end. We can ride roads around here, but 50 mph should be ok as long as it's not screaming the entire time. The Rmax looks awsome, but the price....holy crap. Plus, I've seen some reviews where they said the engine noise is awful. Have a buddy the rode one for a day in Tennessee, said he had a pounding headache from the engine noise after a few hours. He's a Pioneer owner. Said the Rmax was a heelof a machine, but the noise killed it for him. Thanks again for your input on this. If you think of anything else, please reach out.
I can associate with your old man/young man comments. I'm looking at buying my first SXS to explore mountain forest service roads and trails in my retirement and have narrowed it down to a Yamaha Wolverine, but am having trouble deciding between the 850 and 1000. In my old age my hearing is sensitive to loud noises and my back is bad so noise and suspension are important. I have read that the 850 is quieter than the 1000, but the 1000 has smoother suspension. Do you have any experience or feed back and recommendations on these 2 machines. TIA.
You are correct. The 850 I believe is a bit better on the ears but lacking on the suspension. So I guess I would pick the lesser of the to evils. Thanks for watching.
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. It is made by Taylor Made I'm not sure on the part number. I had the dealer find it and put it on. Thanks for watching.
I am wonder about the shoulder room in the front seat. I am 5'9" and 255lbs. Little bit of a bowling ball shape LOL don't no your size just looking for some comparison.
I also recommend you go to dealer and sit in one. I did yesterday and I’m 5’11” 250. My shoulders are a little wider than average and the RMAX safety bolster was a little annoying. The Teryx bolsters are not as confining to the shoulders, it was perfect for me. Also take your gal with you. My wife is short and could reach the pedals on the RMAX, but not the Teryx. Would have to add pedal extensions on the Teryx and that may cramp me but I don’t know.

That is awesome. I am enjoying my machine as well. Haven't had a problem yet. Fingers crossed that I don't
Great review! I have a 2023 wolverine x4 850 what a beast! Love it!
Hi. Nice video. Purchased a x4 850 last month. We enjoy it, better than the 2-up atv we traded in.

I hear you on power. They do make a wolverine x2 1000 now nice little spot below the Rmax. Really hoping they make a 4 seat version of it!

We put our 2 yr old in her car seat in the back and have plenty of room for another adult. 2 kids would be no problem at all.
Good review; thanks! 🍻
Thanks for doing this. i'm torn between this and a pioneer 1000. great review.
My decision was made on the price. The wolverine x4 was the best bang for my buck at the time.

ME TOO what did you decide?

Great video with very good advices. What windshield did u fit with the soft cabin windows?

Have you seen the bed extender they make?
I haven't looked that close at it.
I got the same machine and was looking at getting the full cab enclosure. Do you think it’s worth it? Does it actually keep you warm?
The zippers get stuck sometimes. But yes it definitely cuts the wind and keeps you warmer. My wife and kids love it.
@@thedrunkenbullranchwhat company makes the soft cover?
@@TheJrcattle my soft cover was made by yamaha. I included it with the purchase of the machine.
Is it noisy in the cab? Mine came with a full hard cab I took it off was so loud
I would say it is quieter than most units I have been in. At low speed, it is really easy to carry on a conversation with passenger's.
I am wonder about the shoulder room in the front seat. I am 5'9" and 255lbs. Little bit of a bowling ball shape LOL don't no your size just looking for some comparison.
I'm 5'9" about 185 lbs. It good for me. I would recommend that you go to a dealer and sit in one and see if your comfortable before you purchase it.
Personally I'm 6 ft 300 lb. I fit very well in it and I'm very comfortable.
I also recommend you go to dealer and sit in one. I did yesterday and I’m 5’11” 250. My shoulders are a little wider than average and the RMAX safety bolster was a little annoying. Nice review but where is the video of the guy showing off his GF? Asking for a friend.
😂
Are you enjoying the x4 still?
Oh yes. It is a great sxs
