Creating pysanky every spring is a part of our culture and traditional. This egg art from Ukraine goes back many generations. Beeswax, dyes, and a wax tool called a kistka are used to make these eggs. Watch as I show how to create a pysanka in this video!

@ Yes! I also do batik work on fabric. Sometimes I've used a certain kistka on a silk scarf, and other times I've used a certain tjanting on my eggs! Same technique as you said.
I grew up with the story from mom's childhood about old neighbour who was the master of doing pysanky. My mom told me that her eggs were the most beautiful and kids were always running to her and watching how she was painting eggs before Easter. Yet mom didn't remember what kind of tool it was and how it exactly worked and for YEARS we tried to recreate it. Until now...
I can't wait to try and make some of them, thank u SO MUCH
Wonderful!
My grandma was polish and brought a huge amount of these eggs back to America when she was in Poland to visit but are wooden and my mom gave be half of hers. They are beautiful and I always but them out at Easter in a Crystal dish. God Bless Ukraine and those that are suffering. I pray that the lord will cover them
How
Lovely, my dad was Ukrainian and I remember these growing up. He passed a way a few years ago but we have wooden ones from relatives in Ukraine that I display every year around Easter. It’s a lovely memory
While I would never attempt something this difficult in a million years, I love learning about crafts that are unfamiliar to me. These eggs are beyond beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
If you start with basic tools (the wooden kistka, one wax disc, and food coloring from the grocery store, it's an inexpensive way to start a hobby. You'll be surprised at how lovely they'll turn out after the first few. :)
I concur with your sentiment 100%
Happy Easter 🐰
Australia.

Thanks Crystal! Hope all is well with you and the family!
I tried this once. I am now convinced you are magical.
Stunning work Donna! I have done Pysanky, and it is so relaxing and meditative!! I have some that are at least 30 years old! The predominantly black ones are my favorites.
Awesome!!!
What name of the pencil to draw?
@@k.ikesusanti5264 it is called a kistka

My best wishes to all Ukrainians, you've such a beautiful culture, country, people, animals, enormous talent and gentle souls.
My heart's hurting cause of that megalomaniac invasion and I hope that the suffering will be over soon.

Краса надзвичайна. Дякую!
My hand and patients are not steady enough for this kind of a project, but I've always wondered how these eggs were created and love that you shared the info and love that this form of art is still in practice. Beautiful ❤
This is amazing!!!!, I thought the eggs were made of wood or something, but they are the fragile, every day eggs. This makes it more amazing!!!!
The heat tool is something I have never heard of! I haven't made pysanky in years, but I might start again. I always had trouble removing the wax without scorching the egg or burning myself when I tried using the gas stove (on med-low) to melt it off. Christ is Risen!
Your patience for detail is incredible. Lovely.
This was the most interesting thing I have seen in a long time.
