    Respect to you for working on stuff in the space you have.
    Loved my mk5 RS2000 back in the late 90s - it was a cracking road rally car in stock form but it was getting ropey after its time with me…

      it is tight, hopefully I can get it down the workshop with my Quattro escort project soon so I can move around it easier and start making some progress with it.
      they're great cars and definitely don't get the love they deserve.

    Best plan of action personally is to drill out spot welds on rear quarter panel and completely remove the whole panel and bin it. Patch work quilt cars are more hassle and work. Just buy a brand new panel, saves alot of time and actually saves money in the long run. Tbh that amount of rust on the panel is very worrying because inside will have obviously rotted inner panel and sills. As for paint, etch it, don't bother painting as you will have to fill and sand in the fiberglass panel, so don't waste time and money when you don't need to.

    • @Tdevil86
      @Tdevil86  Год назад +1

      Thank you, my thoughts are surely you wouldn’t stick the fibreglass panels to paint anyway because it can come off the body…?
      I wish I could change the entire quarter but trying to find one these days is like rocking horse crap… I know it’s not ideal just replacing a section but it’s the best I can do with limited funds and availability of parts for these being in short supply now. Hopefully it’ll come out decent, if not then il go back to the drawing board.

    being the rough bastard i am, angle grinder with a knotted wire wheel would of knocked that osr 1/4 in about an hour. facemask + welders gloves reqd, they like shedding those strands at very high speed, straight through any exposed skin, but the time-saving makes it well worth it

    If it was me I'd sandblast any pitted rusty areas, see what's left, repair where needed. Couple of coats of epoxy primer over complete panel then PU adhesive the fibreglass panel back on.

    • @Tdevil86
      @Tdevil86  Год назад

      What media would you use to sand blast it? There is a sand blaster down the workshop I could rig up potentially… also, what is pu adhesive? Does that seal the primer?

    • @S1Rossco
      @S1Rossco Год назад

      I just normally use kilm dried block paving sand, make sure you wear a mask. PU adhesive is Stikaflex, Tiger Seal etc, most paint suppliers all do there own versions. Epoxy primer is water proof when applied to manufacturers spec.

    • @Tdevil86

      I live in a rental property unfortunately and the garden is tiny so a shed isn’t a option really. This thing will be going down the workshop when a space is available anyway so it’s all good. It’s only really the back of the kit that’s stick out proud, only by 5-10mm so I’ll trim it all up before it goes back on and make it work 👌🏼 just need to get it down the workshop before I do much else on it so il be back on the Quattro escort for abit again now

    definitely piece some in the rear quarter and get another boot lid for starters 👍 Going to enjoy watching this one. I had a mk5 2 door back in the day in diamond white with a rare original ford rs kit on it (Not cosworth). I've never seen another one ever, i found some info online years ago and apparently only a few were made and went to employees and wot not. I scrapped it years ago without even realising and being young at the time what it truly was. 😡

    I like the car , and followed the van build on instagram for a while . I have a mk1 focus estate with a home made wide arch kit to build a focus estate RS creation and thats how i spotted the van . Awesome build btw . The Cosworth is cool and i have had a few Cosworth reps so its interesting to see the new build . Personally i would either get a mk7 front to go with the wrc look or with it having the K plate i would get a new boot with whale tale and a Cosworth front bumper .

    • @rustysphotography
      @rustysphotography Год назад

      Its good that your back quarters have the higher part that joins where the boot closes . Lots of the wide arches for the rear arches just flare the arch and don't have the lifted area in the one panel . If you had the lower escort cosworth spoiler , its a smooth transition from spoiler to rear quarter . Lots of reps always stand out to me when missing this part as the lower spoiler gets a flat edge that the Cosworth doesn't have

    • @Tdevil86
      @Tdevil86  Год назад +1

      Cheers dude, van will be having a make over soon so il be filming that when it happens.
      What’s you Instagram? Focus project sounds interesting!
      I’m on the fence at this point, I really love the wrc look on the escort but I think the standard road look may appeal to more people so I may well change the front bumper and spoiler yet.
      But yeh, thankfully it has the right arches, I probably wouldn’t have bought it if it didn’t in all honesty, it’s a dead giveaway to a rep when the rear quarters arnt right or when the front wheel sits funny in the front wing…
      I’ll see what happens anyway, this has definitely turned into abit more of a project than I’d intended it to be lol

    • @rustysphotography
      @rustysphotography Год назад

      @@Tdevil86 I think both look great but the wrc only suits the facelift front in my opinion and with yours already having the stretched front lights and side lights i would defo have to get the Cosworth front bumper and rear spoilers . The K plate makes it the perfect finishing touch :)
