You two are on a roll with these fabulous oldies! Only a few thousand great songs to go (LOL)!
Back in the 50's, 60's & 70's, music was a big part of our lives on so many levels.
Another one of the doo-wop groups from the 60's. "You Belong To Me" was their biggest hit in 1962. They had a few other songs such as "Gone With The Wind", "Have You Heard?" & "Why Don't You Believe Me".
This song by The Duprees "You Belong to Me" (1961). Charted in the top 10 on Billboards hot 100.
The song was first sung by Ms. Jo Stafford in 1952 where it charted at #1.
Dean Martin does a wonderful version of You Belong To Me. You should also listen to yet another great 60s song - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me by Mel Carter. I just know you'd both love it!
I was just thinking about this group.I saw them on the DooWop show on PBS .I was born in 1955,but remember them from the the radio in 60s.That last line is fantastic.Absolutely love this song. These guys sound so good even as they got older.
This is so good. You should hear Patsy Cline's version. She also does "a so good" version with her Patsy vocals. You can't go wrong with either version.
Shawn and Mel, this is pure poetry. You can slow dance with the lovely Mel to this and any song from the ‘50’s.
50s music at its finest....got to love it.❤
Growing up in that era...every neighborhood here in S >PHILLY has someone who sang back-up ..in some Do-Wop goup ...
One of the greatest Doowop songs ever! Had other great songs. Fantastic voice, all good for me. Jo Stafford had the original in 50s, very good also.
I was born in 1964, but was brought up listening to this kind of music. Mam had the radio on constantly, but only the stations that played the records from the fifties. But I can tell you that this never made it to the UK, cos I'm sure if it had I wudda heard it before. I loved it. 🎶❤🎶❤🎶❤🎶❤🎶
When I need a fix of great music I come to your channel…. I know you always have the best songs on here. Ty….. 😎 much love from AZ…. 🌵
Other classic ballads-The Heartbeats- a Thousand Miles Away, Lenny welch-Since I Don't Have You, The Rays-Silhouettes and for the uptempo side-Barry Mann-Who Put the Bomp. Silhouettes-Get a Job and Chubby Checker-Pony Time.
Another great doowop from the doowop years. Love this music
I was hoping you would come across this one, it gives me chills every time I hear it- Thank you 😊
Shawn and Mel, I must tell you: this was one of my Mom's favorite songs... She passed
2 Christmases ago... Thanks so much for reacting to this... One of the greatest love
songs ever, it just gets to me... we had this played at Mom's funeral..... it means a lot...
thank you... that's all, don't know what else to say but thank you.
This song brings tears to my eyes it's beautiful
In 1962 I turned 16. I recall dancing cheek to cheek with my girlfriend, Faye Reaves, and singing softly into her ear as this song played on a record player. I am now 76-years old and when listening to this song tonight I can still feel the romance we shared. I honestly feel sorry for anyone who didn’t have the late 1950s & early 1960s music in their lives.
Another great song by The Duprees is My Own True Love.
One of my favorites!!
You guys are just too cute! Your reactions are bringing me back to my younger days. Love that you are so open to hearing songs before your time just love it 💗 wonderful!!
No song has ever made me feel the way this one does💕💕💕💕💕
There's a live version in their older years. Never fear, they sound exactly the same.
The original recording of this song was done in 1952 by Joni James, follow shortly thereafter in the same year by Jo Stafford. It was Stafford's biggest hit, topping the charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom (the first song by a female singer to top the UK Singles Chart). Another notable cover, this version done by The Duprees in 1962, made the Billboard Top Ten , peaking at #7. Great song by any measure.
50s and 60s were the best times to grow up with the best music!
Yes! You have to hear Patsy Cline's cover of this. It's terrific!
DOO WOP LIVES!! I go to every live Doo Wop show I can. Our beloved singers are up in age now and sadly we have lost a few in the last two years.
My father always had the radio on. Songs like this was always coming from his room
Omgsh!! I am so excited. I suggested them and this song a while ago. I am so happy. This is my absolute favorite
Great vibe from Joey Vann and the guys.
Now if you could just hear what this was like slowly cruising with a hundred other vintage cars on a summer Saturday night in the 50s, with a malted and an order of fries on the bench seat and the vent windows open to catch the breeze. Those old AM radios were amazing.
I think you would really like "Volare" by Bobby Rydell, and "Cara Mia" by Jay and the Americans. Unsurpassed vocals.
Another great oldie but goodie! Love this song!!!
Yay I love this song I requested this lol
Great song!
Wonderful melody! Thx!
I believe this song was out in 1958 or 59, it was part of the Doo Wop era, loved by us all back then.👍♥️
There is a youtube video (or 2) of the Duprees singing a live version of this song that is even better
Nice reaction. You should react to the original version by Jo Stafford, who was very famous during the 40s/50s. Her singing is exceptional.
One way to help with what year/decade it is. Study and remember the style of clothes, the colors, the hair styles, the dances, iwhat is the background/surrounding images are. Although some things may have crossed over into the next decade. If you see a pattern emerging.
I LOVE this song
These guys played my Senior Prom in 1967….
I don't think any other reactors have covered Doo-Wop as extensively as Shawn and Mel. It's making me appreciate this era more,
Mel Carterr's "Hold Me, Kiss Me, Thrill Me" I've asked for a while for you to do.
This was my dream wedding song
The Duprees reached No.6 on Billboard Hot 100.the Doo- Wop cover this song in 1962.Written by Pee Wee King Chilton Price and Redd Stewart. Also a hit for Jo Stafford, Dean Martin, Jason Wade and Annie Lennox just to name a few.
🎅YE WHO ARE ABOUT TO RECEIVE BE THANKFUL AND IT WILL COME BACK UPON THEE🤶🎄COUNT THY BLESSINGS AND BE FILLED WITH JOY 🛐✝️ MERRY CHRISTMAS SHAWN AND MEL ALL THE BEST TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
❤️🥰❤️ Hello S & M SQUAD, HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!! ☃️❄️🎄⭐️ I’ve ALWAYS loved this song! I’m not sure of the era, either the late 40’s or 50s. Is it just me or have they used this song in MANY movies, also? ⭐️ It doesn’t matter, really, because it’s the type of song, you’ll hear in your head, in a GREAT way, especially if you’re like Shawn and Mel, and have someone you love!!! ❤️⭐️
❤️ 🥰❤️ S and M SQUAD IS THE BEST!!! ❤️🥰❤️
Mostly 50's and 60's also listen to their song "have you heard" a great song
An oldie, but a goodie
Great song and reaction guys. You should check out Little Anthony and The Imperials, Tears On My Pillow.
Another great doo-wop song about exotic places & young love.
Love you guys.
This is great! Another one is Why don't you believe me. Have you heard,
One of my favorite war songs(WW2-type stuff)
They weren't related and nobody in the group was named Dupree. They were originally The Parisians, before they changed their name to The Duprees. Believe it or not, they later changed their name to The Italian Asphalt & Pavement Company.
For some time you've been picking the superb, classic old songs that other reactors, even the ones I like, don't seem to have enough knowledge of the time period to choose. I don't believe any RUclips reactor has ever covered this immortal classic.
There are many reactors whose style I like very much, but who almost always react to songs that totally suck, and act as though the 50s and 60s never happened. I lived through much of the 50s and all of the 60s and many of the songs you react to, including this one, are the ones I would pick. Whatever you're doing, keep on doing it.
Please do HAVE YOU HEARD… and watch a PBS reunion special with them they still sound great!!!!!❤️❤️❤️
Oh also the lyrics… GIRLFRIEND TOOK AN EXPENSIVE VACAY😂😂😂😂
Hi Guys, Love the way you are taking all of us on a journey back through all genres of music. Would love to hear Flying Pickets' - Only you and one for Christmas "I Believe in Father Christmas" by Greg Lake formerly from the group Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
Remember it well 😀
This was when music was music and you had to have talent and a voice. NO AUTOTUNE OR COMPUTER TO ALTER YOUR VOICE.
1962. Their first hit. Then came the Beatles and doo-wop went underground. But these guys are still doing concerts on the oldies circuit, although none of these original members are still alive.
What planet are you from? These beautiful songs have been around since the 50s and 60s. This is the first time you've heard this? Did you miss Do Wop 52 on PBS?
Smooth ❤️
Richie was brilliant in the dupprees
They still preform
All over the New Jersey and PA
This is a remake of a 1940's song by Jo Stafford. Both great song!!
Need to hear the most popular version jo stafford 1952
Yesterday I was hoping you would react to this song.
For female Friday you should listen to The Chantels singing Maybe
Hi Guys, pls pls pls could you react to Darts..don’t let it fade away 1978 live version). They were a British group who brought doo wop style back into the pop charts during the mid 70’s and I think you’d really enjoy them. They were one of my favourite groups growing up as a teen in the 70’s. Another one by them is Daddy Cool which is also a brilliant tune. (1978 top, pops live version) I know you probably won’t get anyone else asking for them because they were British and probably completely unknown in the U.S but would so love if you could react to them 😊👍
can you imagine a man saying that to a woman today? lol I'd love it!
Local girl, Jo Stafford does a great non-doo wop version.
More DooWop with Dion and the Belmonts!😉
Hey Paula -- by Paul and Paula ♥️🎄
I believe this is from 1964
Jo Staffords version is the best version of this song. You should listen to her version.
Gotta do Have you heard next ……..
Ohio Express " Chewy Chewy " 1969 bubble gum music.
Isn't that diamonds to the ears
Try the Dovells - The Bristol Stomp.
Song title reminds me of CARLY SIMON'S "YOU BELONG TO ME" (not the same song). Please react to Carly. Other songs are: The Spy Who Loved Me (from James Bond movie), Your So Vain, That's Way I've Always Heard It Should Be.
You need to listen to ou Belong to Me by Michael McDonald with the Doobie Brothers.
Dad says you need to listen to the original version recorded in 1952. Here is a link to Joni James recording: ruclips.net/video/8fQkmRVJY_M/видео.html
Doo Wop: A Thousand Stars, Cathy Young and the Innocents Please
Dean Martin does the best version of this guys!!
Romance❤️.
I still like the Patti Page version.
Best version remains the original by Jo Stafford (1952) !!!
