That was back in my time I'm 89 years old and that's one of my favorite songs. The lead singer is Mike Kelly of course he's passed on well I shouldn't say of course cuz I'm still here. But I always thought he was so cute I always had a crush on him and I like to see him anytime and I still think he's cute LOL they had others that took his place after that but it never was the same he was from the 60s to the 70s..😍😍🤩
This is definitely one of the greatest songs ever recorded. Mike had such a beautiful voice and also all the singers plus the musicians that made this masterpiece happen!!
Mike Kelly was just "lip-singing" to this beautiful song. The voice you are listening to was the late Joey Canzano also known as Joey Vann. He along with Joe Santollo, John Salvato, Mike Arnone and myself Tom Bialoglow were The Founding Members and "Original" Duprees.
I do not know if I could sound as good as your mom, but I sure do love singing my oldies. Glad these are sweet memories for you. You will always have that.
A superb beautiful song, timeless , one of the greatest doowop songs ever. The lead singer has such a great voice , shout out to all the singers and musicians.🎉
Yes! One of the most beautiful romantic songs of all time and a great version by the mighty Duprees. So glad you’re listening to this stuff. This is definitely a show stopper! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Happy New Year!!!🎆🎊
Great Doowop group. One of the greatest doowop songs. Fantastic voice. Have you heard is amazing also. THEN YOU CAN TELL ME GOODBYE by the Casinos 1967 is similar. Fabulous song!
Beautiful reaction, you two are so much fun and a great role models for couples (who wish to stay married!) Nice move, Shawn, grabbing Mel's hand! One of the best songs from the do wop era. "Have You Heard" is their other big hit- fabulous similar vocal harmonies. You would also like "Remember Then", the Earls. (Do-wop also.)
Original groups cannot be substituted, duplicated, or replicated. So always give credit to the one and only "Original" Duprees. Joey Canzano also known as Joey Vann, Joe Santollo, John Salvato, Mike Arnone and myself Tom Bialoglow.
These songs speak to anyone in love or even those who remember when. I'm 75 and still dance to these songs with my beloved husband of 54 years. True love never dies. ❤❤❤ Blessings.
I love this group, my grandmother used to listen to them many years ago and I grew up listening to them, I was so in love with Mike Kelly and his melodious voice, especially when he sang My love my love, I only regret not having been born a long time ago and maybe being able to enjoy any of their live, I am currently 25 years old and I still like them, I will always love them The Duprees were very special from my childhood and especially Mike Kelly, I love him ❤😢
My favorite by the Duprees is My Own True Love. I worked for a company that had their hands in many things. They actually had a record label with some recording studio in the next County. The owner/producer was a fantastic singer in his own right. His oldies band always played My Own True Love... The singer was good friends with the late great Johnny Maestro.
Shawn and Mel, this is another great group from the past that had some great love songs and were classy performers and"You Belong To Me" is a great example of a love song. ❤👍👍
The Duprees release "YOU BELONG TO ME "in 1962 it reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Has some success in the 70's as the Italian Asphalt & Pavement Comp. Other hits "HAVE YOU HEARD (1963),"TOTAL RECALL" (1968) You Belong To Me has also been recorded by Jason Wade(2001), Patsy Cline(1962),Bob Dylan(1994), Dean Martin (1957)and Tori Amos(2001)
@@edprzydatek8398 Yes. Most Famous version Jo Stafford, 1952 , but in 1952 Joni James sang it as well. Popular with Korean War soldiers. Have You Heard mentioned above is also Joni James' hit. By the time the Duprees did it the song was at least 10 years old. I Like Jo Stafford's version best, total class and style. Reactors would do well to do the research and hear original versions of these covers and become educated as to the history of American popular music.
Born at the turn of the magic '60's and all it's glorious, musical promise, my roots are in vintage rock and roll, R&B, instrumental goodness, surf tunes, classic country & balladry. Keep it coming‼️
I don't know who gives me cold chills the most the song or you guys. Your reactions are about the most genuine I've seen. You loving these types of love songs I think you would love "HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY" by the Tuneweavers. It's a heart melter
It feels great to see you both listen and enjoy the music you discover together ❤. It looks to me that yous have a happy relationship 😊 God bless you both
My parents are massive Doo Wop fans. Have been since the 50s and passed that love onto me. This music has a way of soothing my soul more than anything and I just melt. Better than any tranquilizer I've ever been prescribed!
Another one of the doo-wop groups from the 60's. "You Belong To Me" was their biggest hit in 1962. They had a few other songs such as "Gone With The Wind", "Have You Heard?" & "Why Don't You Believe Me". (I think you reacted to this song over a week ago)
Composed in 1947, as a C & W song, by Chilton Price, Redd Stewart, & Pee Wee King, & 1st recorded in early '52, by C. & W singer, Sue Thompson. Later that summer, Patti Page made a lush, instrumentally strong version. But it was in September of '52, when Jo Stafford, with Paul Weston & his orchestra, made THE biggest recording , going to #1 all over the USA, for a month. Deam martin did a version, & here, The Duprees did it their way. ------------------MJL, 75 y/o
Pee Wee King, along with being a song writer was also a musician and a bit player in Gene Autrey western movies. In fact Pee Wee got his name from Gene Autrey since he was a little fella. When we met him in 1962 he was living in Louieville, Kentucky. Tom Bialoglow Founding Member of The "Original" Duprees
You should look for them live in a doowop special when they bring old groups on stage to perform..the one I seen is when they are dressed in Grey suits, and they are like in their 60's...and they sound great
Again nice group to do your reaction. They were phenomenal with a string of hit songs. As a matter of fact we did this song in 1967 at out High School shower of stars and got standing ovation. Now get a chance and listen to the Passions and maybe my fav The Earls I Believe enjoy!!!
In 1962, Patsy Cline released an album "Sentimentally Yours" (the last album released in her lifetime) which included such standards as "That's My Desire", "You Made Me Love You (I Didn't Want to Do It)", "Anytime", "You Were Only Fooling (While I Was Falling In Love)" and this song, "You Belong To Me". I think you would enjoy listening to all these songs, since Patsy put her signature on all of these old songs!
"They don't make music like that anymore, they really don't" You are so right Mel. It was my era. and I am really enjoying your reactions. Try "Have You Heard" by them next.
I was 10 when when this song was a hit. But as I listen to it now I think back to my youth growing up in Passaic, NJ, American Bandstand and Cousin Brucie on WABC radio and I get tears in my eyes.
you 2 are so meant for each other, don't lose that look you have for each other, SPECIAL loves are rare and so fragile, protect it with all your heart !!! Pappa O'GEE !!!
Hi Mel and Shawn, please listen to "White Cliffs of Dover" or "We'll meet again" by the wonderful Dame Vera Lynn, she was the soldiers sweetheart during WWII - thanks
Trivia guys .. the Duprees established themselves by having the unique characteristics of the big bands coming from the 40s, very subtle in their harmonies but you can still soot the sounds, also they didn't do much of up tempo but they did recorded one particularly very good called 'I wish I could believe you'. Please check it out if you haven't.
Awesome reaction video! I have loved this song since I was a little girl! My parents always played their music in our house growing up and dancing to this song and others in our living room. We lost my Dad just under a year ago so watching this made me smile. Another incredible song by The Duprees is Have You Heard.
this song is so gorgeous. ty for playing this and other romantic ones. you will like Dean Martin's version too. my honey, may he rest in peace, and I used to sing it together. It's nice watching you two....people who love each other. Bless you in 2022
From the spring of 1962, this song made it to # 7 .--------------originally 5, here 4, nice Italian / Sicilian boys from Jersey City, NJ. Everyone slow danced to this version. -------------MJL, 75 y/o
I don't know if I'll get all the spelling right because I am not Italian. John Salvato I believe was the only Sicilian. Joe Santollo's Mother came from "Barri" so he was Barrez. Mike Arnone was Roman from Rome. Our lead singer Joey Canzano aka Joey Vann was Nablidon from Naples. And Tom Bialoglow was the ringer in the group. He was and is "Polish"

Your husband is so romantic, and not afraid to show it. You are so fortunate! So is he!
You have to check out the Duprees “Have you Heard” and “My own true Love” so beautiful!!
My Mom had a beautiful voice. She was always singing these songs. Great memories for me.

Thank You for wearing a Golden Girls T- Shirt , RIP BETTY ♥️
This has to be my favorite song of the 60’s. Thank you for this reaction
This is one of the most romantic songs ever written. Before my time, but I can see four well dressed men under a streetlight harmonize in the ‘ 50’s

They are just a cover group that is licensed to use the name. They never even recorded a hit record.
Every week was another hit to listen to. Our little transistor radios on the beach was all we needed to make us happy.
I was a little kid when this came out. I remember singing it. Pretty awesome.
