No offense to James Best, who made a nice career and seemed to be a genuinely nice person, but it is painfully obvious to any real player that he was not even doing a particularly good job of faking it.
There have been a variety of assertions made as to who actually played and provided the "stunt hands" for the close ups from Barney Kessel to Les Paul and maybe a few others.
Bob, if you read this comment, maybe it would inspire an episode in which you get to the bottom of who actually played.
@@nbforrest9 Yeah I think it was Bob that pointed out Best admitted later he lied that he could play just to get the role. 🤓😎✌🏼

😂 I like them Bob. They must remove the rear view mirrors from the car for close ups; so you can see the people's faces better. Not the mirrors. 🤷♀️

In the gold truck Gomer sprays (gas) all over Barney's legs a feet. Moments later Barney exits with dry pants.
Here is a verbal mistake : bank robbery Mr Melvin tells Andy when he is being held up “ I been trying to tell you , this isn’t Barney “ . When there is no place before that that Melvin warned him “
The inconsistenties must have been because drinking on the job was MORE common back then,

We've heard about folks watching the dailies with movies. What about TV? Someone must have caught most, if not all, of these goofs. Refilming might have cost too much. I still wonder if Ellie had lived in Mayberry long enough to run for council. She would have needed to file for residency. Did she stay in town long enough to finish out her term? We know that one of the Treasury men was a friend of Andy's. When he was unable to complete the part, Rance Howard took his place. Most shows would have reshot the previous footage. Then again who knew one day we could hit the pause button and examine these shows more closely?

Not a blooper, but a plot inconsistency. In Quiet Sam S1 E29 , Barney and Andy arrive at farmer Sam's house at different times even though it is repeatedly shown that there is only one car between them. It is not explained in the episode how each man got there.
We have wandered that for years how they got there with only one car🤣

Either the Church Benefactors or I think it is the Church Organ.
Andy is talking to the Reverend outside the church...when the camera faces the Reverend you can clearly see no plaque on the court house door.
