The biplane engine is too weak, the body wasn't even metal, and this caused wackyness with heat signature. Like WWII performance fighters are significantly more visible from like 300-500 meter IRL, and that was with early AIM-9. Fun fact, North Koreans specifically use wooden biplanes for reconaissance because the South Koreans either can't or don't bother shooting.

Granted, a skilled bi or triplane pilot can pull a 180-degree yaw maneuver to briefly fire behind them, but this was only something the aces of WWI could pull off. (there is a record of pilots doing this maneuver in the war. Shit's crazy.)
I used to bring I-153s with rockets into games with Mig-15s (back when they were the highest tier jets) and did manage to shoot down quite a few of them, and way back then the award for doing so is 20k SL and it's pretty lucrative.

The jets literally can't engage in turn fights with the biplane. There are dumb players who would try, but jets are so fast compared to them that it would be impossible. By the time they're midway through the turn they're already 2km away.
Imagine if there was an enemy jet and it just came up alongside him, looked at the small he 51 and just decided you were not worth the bullets and just flew away like in the irl incident of the ye old pub, an American b17 that was spared by a German in a Messerschmitt bf 109

Biplanes are actually good at top tier tbh. Despite their obvious speed, when all your team die and the enemies come towards you looking for the last players you can out manauver them and they will find it difficult to lock you with IR so they are a force to be reckoned with lol
Me and my friends actually did this as a strat to grind silver. We weren't good enough to reliably make the battles at our own (admittedly low) br, so we'd load in with reserves and biplanes to go for whatever the punching up achievement is, the one that gives a few thousand silver for killing a plane that's of a significantly higher br. Even if you only got 1 kill, you didn't have repair costs which made it economical. To cap it all, biplane have great maneuverability as compared to the faster planes can can outturn many things.
This happened to me that other day in a custom game with my friend. Me in my trusty 1.0 Krasnolutsky’s I-15bis against his jet that I can’t remember the name of. I don’t see you on my radar. You must be in one of those stealth fighters he says. (Of course I am. I begin my play into the psychological warfare) he sees me and laughs. I try to dodge his missiles. I failed miserably. I respawn. I climb really high. I lie and say I’m flying around the water. He can’t find me (I’m stalking him 3,000 feet above him) He doesn’t believe my plane can fly that high. (I play more into the psychological warfare and tell him that I don’t think I can either.) I begin my dive. He still doesn’t know where I am. (I’m right above him) Since he’s traveling so fast, I have to lead him so far. He says he hears my engine as multiple rounds of 7.62 zip right past him. He can’t believe it. I hit his wing. Then I hit him in a critical area. He catches fire. I fly right past him. I pull up. He can’t maneuver fast enough to turn around to get me. But I can. I send another volley of 7.62 his way. It misses but his engine shuts down. 2 of my 4 guns jam because I fired more than 2 rounds and my barrels melted. It might as well be the wright brothers plane at this point. I fire again. I hit him again but my other 2 guns jammed. As a true Soviet Soldier I use myself as the bullet. I ram into him to no avail because my plane is made of origami paper. I try again. His wing comes off but so does mine. We both slowly fall to our deaths. He offers that we both eject and fight eachother with our sidearms. I refuse the chance to live as I unskillfully steer my shambled plane into his jet one last time and we crash and burn into a fiery inferno.
I-153P is perfect for this because high maneuverability 2x 20 mm cannons with good damage on HE rounds and normal speed (for biplane). I personally killed 5 jets with this in one round

I do strongly dislike having 2-3 teamates basically gone though, considering wins do grant much better RP/SL bonuses. I just wish WT would stop this mechanic, in RB at least. Whether you believe it or not IRL a biplane has a confirmed kill on a jet fighter. This happened during the Korean war where a F-94 tried to shoot down a biplane and because it's missiles didn't work it slowed down below it's stall speed and crashed.
I technically got a kill on a het in a biplane once, we both went into a headon, i hit them a couple times, they missed me entirely but they had too much speed and as they trued to turn arround they crashed lmao. I did not take out a jet, but i got credit for ones death

get within 1km, even an aim-9e can track a propeller plane; aim-9l and r60ms have no problem obtaining lock from 3km
