  • ☑️ Many Windows components log messages and use Event Viewer to display them. Sadly, the messages are often cryptic and inconsistent, and the result is a mess.
    The Event Viewer in Windows logs system events, offering insights into the system's operations. However, its contents can be confusing for the average user, with a mix of informational messages, warnings, and errors. Despite the seemingly negative content, the presence of errors in the Event Viewer doesn't necessarily indicate a system problem. Scammers exploit this confusion by misleading users into believing their system is compromised, based on the logs. This tool is primarily for technicians and software engineers, who use it for diagnostic purposes. For most users, there's little need to check the Event Viewer unless troubleshooting a known issue. Beware of anyone who prompts unsolicited checks, as they might be scamming you.

    What about "Setup" and "forwarded events" section of the vent viewer. I just got a new win 11 system and this sections aren't showing logs. On my windows 10 machine it shows the logs no problem.

    My windows server 2019 has tons of Audit Failures, IP's from Hackers (Europe - Asia) trying to log in. Do I have to worry about that?

    Thank you for easing my mind, I assumed something was going wrong on my brand new PC without knowing it 😅 I saw the hard drive light next to the power button was blinking and it lead me here. Lol thanks for letting me know its all as nonsensical as I thought!

    Takes a bit of googling for error codes, but the event viewer helped me diagnose a bad processor core in my CPU.

    I mean I came here because my system is having problems and I wanted to get a rundown on how to understand the event viewer because I’m noticing patterns in the errors but I can’t quite piece them together…the type of person who would search for this video doesn’t need to hear the information in this video

    What is a "Faulting Application" ... and ... what is a "Faulting Module"?

    • @askleonotenboom
      @askleonotenboom  10 месяцев назад

      Depends on context. Need more specifics to say. Generally it's a crashing application or component of an application, but it could be other things as well.

    • @Kmuggle
      @Kmuggle 10 месяцев назад

      I'm just looking for a basic definition. What is "Faulting Application" trying to tell me and what is "Faulting Module" trying to tell me? If the crash could be either ... how do you identify which one crashed?

    • @askleonotenboom
      @askleonotenboom  10 месяцев назад

      @@Kmuggle Like I said, those terms alone aren't enough to determine what's going on. More information is needed. Perhaps its there with the EventViewer entry you're getting this from, perhaps it's not. But there's no simple answer.

    • @Kmuggle
      @Kmuggle 10 месяцев назад

      IMO because Event Viewer is so cryptic and so poorly explained ... it's a useless tool for pretty much everyone unless they're perhaps an IT pro. I've never had a single instance in which Event Viewer was informative or useful in resolving a problem.

      @@Kmuggle Quoting the video: "The ugly truth is that the event viewer and what's in it, really the event logs, are a mess. They're an absolute mess."

    The title of the video doesn't relate to it's contents. You spent 3/4 of the time warning about scammers exploiting individuals using Event Viewer. Which, is great information.
    But I still know nothing about Event Viewer...

    • @sakanet
      @sakanet Год назад

      He really doesn't say anything about it other than it is useless, no it is useful if you know what you are trying to do. For example, you can go to Security log and see who logged on to your computer.

    • @askleonotenboom
      @askleonotenboom  9 месяцев назад +1

      Ultimately you don't. Unless it's clear (which is rare), the event viewer isn't useful to mere mortals like us.
