  • Xylitol helps to clean your teeth, by softening the plaque causing bacteria in your mouth. When you brush your teeth after using sufficient amounts of xylitol for periods of time it will then remove plaque easier, making your teeth cleaner and healthier.
Xylitol is great for oral health and clean teeth.

You have to think of it this way. Xylitol makes your mouth produce mineral-rich saliva. Every time you do this a new layer of mineral is laid down. Think about how an oyster can grow it's shell from the minerals in sea water. It's the same principle. Consider your teeth to be like the oyster and your saliva to be like the sea water. Every time that mineral rich "sea water" washes up on your teeth, that's a new layer. While it may be microscopic, over time any hole can be filled in with new mineral. I don't believe that God would create the human body which is capable of healing from almost anything and say "Well your teeth no, you can't heal that.". Dr. Weston A Price healed a young lady who had 42 open cavities on 24 teeth. It took about 7 months and her teeth were perfectly fine at the end of the trial. He used a combination of high vitamin butter oil (ghee) and cod liver oil capsules. The vitamin K2 and vitamin D3 make calcium move into your harder tissues like your bones and teeth. It can be done.

I have been watching and learning via your videos and feel that so much of this is common sense, especially massaging the gums and using a firmer brush to do this rather than soft to stimulate. I have purchased Zellies. What I haven’t heard you address is people who seem to have a intestinal reaction after consuming Xylitol (me). Is this in direct relation to either my current healthy or unhealthy gut Microbiomes? I have read that “the sugar alcohols can pull water into the intestines or get fermented by gut bacteria” and that this can “lead to gas, bloating and diarrhea. So far this has been my experience using the Zellies (only one after a meal and no eating or drinking for one hour)as you suggest. Wondering if this issue will resolve itself over time or am I looking at being one of the lucky ones who just will not be able to consume xylitol at all. I look forward to your response as I would like to be able to use this system.

If you’re just using xylitol crystals and swishing them, as opposed to using the Zellies that the commenter to whom I was replying was doing, then keep doing what you’re doing! Also, xylitol was promoted as a zero-calorie natural sugar substitute so many people were putting it in their coffee or baking with it. Is using xylitol in granules as effective as xylitol in candies and gummies?

    • @dr.elliephillips
      @dr.elliephillips  Год назад +30

Good xylitol products are literally granules of xylitol pressed together to form a mint + some flavor (like peppermint oil) with minimal other ingredients. Granules will work, but they make it more difficult to control dosage, keep in the car, take them with you to work etc. I find having a portable xylitol product like Zellie's mints - allow me this freedom - but yes, you can use granules. Aim for about a teaspoon each day in 1/5th of a teaspoon amounts at the end of meals through the day. Xylitol is less effective if you put it into solution in water, and space the timing as much as possible. Try not to eat or drink for an hour after using xylitol.

I suggest when your mouth is healthy and the biofilm on your teeth and gums is stable, you should no longer need a professional dental cleaning. Personally my last cleaning was 40+ years ago, and I tell my family to ask the question, "Do I NEED a dental cleaning?" There is no benefit to stripping teeth of healthy oral biofilm. There may be a negative outcome if you strip off your healthy biofilm too often. I no longer see dental cleanings as a good idea - unless you have plaque or calculus. Years ago it was believed to be impossible to make a mouth this healthy, so the best we could offer as DDS was to clean up your mouth at periodic intervals. Now we know how to modulate oral biofilm, and this is a much healthier idea. The sooner in life we do this, and avoid dental cleanings, the healthier people's mouths will be. My youngest daughter has only had one or two cleanings in her 30+ year life. She has beautiful teeth.

But the fact is that you can get all of the system products - specific varieties of Closys mouthwash, Crest toothpaste, Listerine, and ACT mouthwash, in regular stores everywhere, and she does make her own xylitol product, but you can also get other good xylitol elsewhere and do not have to get hers. She does not recommend any products other than these because these are the ones that she knows from her experiences with her own dental patients over the last 50 years to work, and she knows of no other products in her experience that will work the same or better than this system. She does not recommend using neem in the mouth, nor does she recommend mixing xylitol with anything to dilute it, but rather using it plain all by itself in the mouth to get the most benefit from it. I hope this helps!

It's great you understood some ideas, put it together and shared them with us, it's great you wrote two books and it is normal that we pay for the books when we want to buy them but it is not normal that we need to pay to understand some basic facts regarding your teachings while you put up many videos on youtube without really going into details about the products you recommend and how they affect overall health. You recommend just one product for each step, really just one product from all the products on earth? Would you be willing to share if you have any financial connections with the companies which products you recommend? Many people put so much free detailed info out there, but you put a big info, select only 5 specific products that work together and you asked to be paid for explanations. I understand that contacting you directly would involve payment, some specific course would require payment, but not the basic knowledge. That doesn't feel honest.

Hi Dr Ellie 😊 I am sure you have answered before. Apologies! But does Listerine kill good bacteria as well as the bad?

    • @dr.elliephillips
      @dr.elliephillips  Год назад +18

Listerine has been in the middle of a big misunderstanding that started a year or two ago. Saliva testing shows anything we drink or swish will temporarily change the number of bacteria floating in our saliva (obvious if you think about it). Listerine does this - but to the same outcome as swishing or drinking a glass of water. The real question is which mouth rinses access the 80% of more tenacious bacteria that live on the surface of our teeth and gums (in a layer called biofilm). Bacteria in biofilm do not behave like the floating single bacteria, but as a community with special resilience so they can offer great protection for our teeth and gums. The ONLY rinse shown to be powerful enough to affect these biofilm bacteria is a rinse called Chlorhexidine - and it takes days of rinsing with Chlorhexidine to make this slight change in the bacteria composition of the biofilm, and it is only temporary. Don't worry about Listerine. I have used it in my suggested system x2 or x3 for over 40 years and I have a wide diversity of healthy bacteria in my mouth and amazing nitric oxide levels.

They have concerns that the particles could be absorbed and a problem for health. We really do not have long term studies with this product - and really, our own saliva has the perfect balance of calcium and phosphate to provide teeth with the exact minerals they need to rebuild themselves in a natural way.
Fluoride is not better than or worse than nano hydroxyapatite since they cannot be compared.
Fluoride will always speed remineralization - that's how it works.

Are you using a Mouthwatchers toothbrush?
That is the most likely problem - "dead plaque" debris that is not being adequately brushed off your teeth.
It happens if you have a soft toothbrush - or if you have been told not to brush your teeth so hard .....but if you use my system you protect your tooth enamel from that damage with the first rinse.
Target those areas with a good resilient toothbrush (NOT electric - manual) and that should be enough to remove this superficial debris.
This is why I recommend two brushes - one for the night and the other for the morning - so they have 24 hours to dry between uses.
This way they stay sufficiently resilient.
If you don't manage to remove the debris with just a bit more brushing - then add some xylitol crystals to the Crest toothpaste.
It is a hack that works to "exfoliate" this surface debris - and it give you a cleaning similar to the one you'd get at a dentist.

You can have it in mints, gum, or granules/crystals. If you use the granules, one dose is 1 gram (1/4 teaspoon). Swish it around the mouth for 2-5 minutes and then swallow. If you use mints or gum (chew gum for 2-5 minutes), look at the label to see how much xylitol is in them; 1 gram is a good dose. Take at least 6-7 grams of xylitol per day, spread out throughout the day in small 1 gram doses.

I bought some xylitol mints recently from a different brand than you mention jn your videos and i started getting mouth sores after a few days. Not canker sores, it was like in a couple of spots in my mouth, it seemed like the xylitol was eating it away or breaking tissue down. Do you know what may cause this?
Im not using your complete system at this time, I use sensodyne pronamel or repair and protect toothpaste along with a few holistic products that have essential oils and other natural ingredients which I have used for years without any issues unless I overdo it with the essential oil containing products.

You probably aren't brushing hard enough there to remove the dead plaque bacteria. Here is info Dr. Ellie wrote elsewhere:
"Teeth staining: “Good stains” are seen on teeth when dental disease has been rapidly controlled, when the remnants of thick plaque and harmful bacteria die off quickly. The debris collects around the tooth, often looking like a dark stain at the gum line. This stain is the sign of improved oral health, less bleeding, and a healthier mouth and gums. A dental cleaning will quickly remove this kind of staining and leave the healthier teeth pristine and white.
"If you do not have a cleaning within a couple of months of starting the complete system, the sudden improvement in your oral health may result in a thin band of stain forming around the edges of your teeth at the gum line. This staining is not a problem, is not permanent, and is not at all unhealthy. This stain is dead plaque debris that has shriveled up and formed a hair-like deposit around the edge of your teeth. One cleaning at the dentist will remove this band of debris.
“This staining is a common problem that I have to find a way to address:
      1. Are you using the Mouthwatchers brushes that I recommend? You must get away from fear of brushing too hard. It's not true and you will not do damage by brushing - you will get rid of these stains!
      2. Do you let your brushes dry for 24 hours between uses? Never soak them in anything or they will get too soft.
      3. Are you brushing this area of your mouth where you are seeing the stains? Aim at these areas first, when you have the most toothpaste on your brush, and before you do the gum massage, etc - this is almost always superficial debris that just takes a bit more work to remove.
      4. Are you using the system 2x daily? You will get staining if more plaque forms on teeth every 12 hours during the first months - before the oral bacteria have been balanced. In the future you may be able to skip a time or two - but not in the first months.
      5. Do you stop eating and drinking completely - not even water - after the xylitol at the end of meals? This allows the new healthy protective biofilm to form, and it is this biofilm that will stop your teeth from accumulation of this debris. You may also want to have a Zellies mint last thing at night before sleeping.
      6. This stain is not a health problem - just no one likes a dark stain. But it is superficial debris and will brush off; just use a bit more toothpaste and some more energy on these areas.
      7. IF this extra energy and toothpaste trick is NOT ENOUGH to get rid of the stain - then you are going to make a special paste for yourself - Exfoliating paste: Mix together half a teaspoon of granular xylitol with a big squeeze of the Crest Cavity Protection toothpaste. Use this exfoliating toothpaste mixture - aim at the stains first thing every morning (not during the system.…but as you get out of bed in the morning). Just target these stains with this mixture of xylitol crystals + toothpaste. In 3-4 days the staining should have disappeared completely. Then you do not need to keep using this mixture; you can go back to the normal paste as a part of the system.”

Not immediately after, no. There are 4 steps in Dr. Ellie's at-the-sink protocol, and you can use xylitol if you like about 30 minutes after you've used Step 4, the ACT rinse. The xylitol and the ACT used pretty closely together like this help each other to work even better. But first you need to give the ACT a little time to work on the teeth (30 minutes) before using the xylitol.

How to get xylitol most cost-effectively?? How to get Xylitol most cost effectively? For 10 grams actual xylitol in product units:
    ACT mints ($2.78 - 14.3 mints = 10 g)
    ZELLIES mints ($1.07 - 20 tabs = 10 g)
    ZELLIES gum ($2.16 - 18 pieces = 10g)
    NATURBELL granules ($.12 - 2.5 tsp = 10g)
So it costs a LOT more for mints but one has to wonder if the granules are worth it (are they effective AT ALL?) since they go right down the throat almost immediately whereas the ACT mints stay in the mouth for a long time, Zellies mints much less so, the gum something in between.
I am used to paying $1/day for most supplements but the ACT mints, in particular, are more like $3/day ... which is too much.

      @dr.elliephillips  6 месяцев назад +3

It's unfortunate that oral health for many people appears to be a bunch of "rules" - (which if you DON'T follow - your punishment will be cavities and gum disease.)
I'd rather help you understand 'why" xylitol is useful and "why" you don't eat or drink afterwards. This way you become empowered - and YOU make the decisions about what works for YOU.
Healing saliva is stimulated by a 2-10 minute chew of xylitol gum.
This saliva is a higher pH (good for mineralization) and it is literally dripping with minerals to go into your teeth and mineralize them.
The benefits appear to continue for up to an hour.
During this time the xylitol will also feed good bacteria in your mouth - and encourage them to form a healthy protective "biofilm" layer over your teeth and gums. Every hour you allow this to happen - your teeth will be more protected, stronger and healthier.
Every time we eat or drink - anything - even water - we dilute this amazing healing saliva.
When saliva is thinned by water, tea or coffee, it will no longer put minerals into your teeth.
In fact, liquids may wash minerals from your teeth.
If the liquid is acidic - like coffee or tea, or soda, or a sweetened drink or food - then this stops the healing process AND PULLS minerals FROM your teeth - to reverse the healing process.
If you want healthier teeth - limit the amount of eating and drinking damage each day, and increase the time you allow saliva to heal your teeth.
The ideal way to do this is with xylitol at the end of meals and then wait ( ideally 1+ hours) afterwards - before you repeat the process again.
      Does that help you?
Do you see why "giving your teeth time to interact with your saliva" is so important?
BUT afternoon saliva is more healing than morning saliva - so maybe allow yourself more drinks in the morning - and more aware of not eating and drinking in the afternoon hours.

A good dose size of xylitol is 1 gram at a time, so check on the container for the brand you bought to see how many you need to equal 1 gram. Dr. Ellie's Zellies product is 2 mints = 1 gram.
