Yeah, I was more than a bit astonished, staring at the green instead of the yellow-sand colour I was used to, driving this track in my favourite racing sims :D
As a lifetime fan of F1, this will be my first year of watching Indycar and I can't wait. From an outsider looking in it really looks like they have gone in the right direction with Indycar, unlike F1.
They need as many new viewers just like you as they can get this year. It's a great series to follow closely for those who already understand the sport.
Welcome to the series. I am also European (well, I guess you are) and grew up with F1. But I have been following all the Indycar races for 2-3 years now and I can highly recommend it.
I'm also from Europe. And i fell in love with Indycar (CART) in 1995. Those cars were BEASTS in late 90s when Zanardi or Montoya raced them. Sadly, it was also the time when the (nearly fatal) disease called The Split begun. I'm so happy that Indycar is back on track now.
katsching yep, i'm from the UK (actually live at Silverstone next to the race circuit). I'm a lifelong motor racing fan but have never really taken much notice of Indycar or Nascar but with the launch of the new cars for this year it's caught my attention and to me it just feels like they have the balance right in terms of technology and pure motor racing. F1 has gone the wrong way and become gimmick filled pretend racing where technology is king and everything else is an afterthought. Indycar will fill the void that F1 has left for me so really looking forward to it.
You can tell compared to last year that the cars are slower in the corners but faster in a straight line. The new dash looks nice and the engine sounds are good as usual. Oh and that's a lot of green.
I really like the videos that start with the driver putting on his gear in the hauler and show the walk out to the car and the strap in process. Getting to listen to the little chats along the way is very interesting. There are lots of videos of just driving, hopefully you can do one of those. Thanks
Same. I realize that some might see the slight curve at the end of the downhill section being a risk for major crashes, but Road America has Turn 9 which is a much faster corner that's even less protected, so I really don't see what the issue is.
Or just use the real esses layout and the final corner would be a passing zone. The wall on the last leg of the esses should be a non-issue if they add some SAFER barrier.
Well obviously, high downforce = drag, which lowers top speed. The 2016 F1 cars were comparable to the top speed of an indycar due to less downforce, but they couldn't through Silverstone's Copse corner at around 180mph like the 2017 F1 cars can.
Judging by the rear view mirror, you can always assess whether a visor cam is higher or lower than the driver's eye level. This seems to be spot on, more or less exactly what the driver sees.
Indycar is everything that F1 isn't at the moment great looking cars, great engine sound from the V6 and no bullshit DRS or halo to be seen and I've been a big F1 fan for 20 years now.
"Hey Spence, what's your comment after these few laps of training?" "Well Pete, we have a great ca ca ca ca ca car and I can't wai ai ai ai ait for the ra ra ra ra race." "Thanks Spence, what about your back pain you told us the last time?" "Oh it's gone. Can't feel my back anymore."
Looks quite slower in the corners, but data says they’re faster in straights... curious to see pole and fastest lap comparisons with last year’s cars, and also how do they fear on ovals
Georgexx 13 Newgarden was about 1.8 seconds off his pole from last year and he was on the Black prime tires not the reds. So once they really get the setup nailed I imagine it'll be less than a second off
why do they use the dragstrip turn 7 instead of the double apex turn 7? And why use the shorter turn 11 instead of the famous right sweeper? Is ir a Indy Car thing or something related to the design of the cars?
i know, brain can compensate alot shaking when you really sit in that car and this are your eyes. the sunreflection isn't so hard in reallife too, maybe. but jeeze i can't imagine how it is to fight against others on this track, or react fast and correct on incidents. it's tough for sure.
Is it just me, or do these hill sides, for example 01:47 and 02:07 look very sketchy being exposed like that to a car, out of control, barrelling towards them at high speed? I reckon one could launch a huge jump from cutting the corner at 02:07 I'm sure there are more dangerous spots like this, I just didn't bother looking any further. I've no prior knowledge about this track or what kind of racing it is used for, just that this Indycar seemed like very dangerous seat to be in at that track.
Its easier for the cars to follow each other through corners with less dirty air. As far as the road course/street circuit races are concerned, it has worked. Compare it to F1 and all the downforce those cars have and how tough it is for the cars to follow.
well, the cars looked good, arguably the best looking open wheel cars in the world, from 2008-2011. and then the DW12 happen'd. and then the aerokit DW12's happen'd. only with the IR-18 have the cars started to not look crap anymore.
that is a flat out lie and you know it. Indycar is the purest form of racing there is, and easily has the best racing product of anything that isn't IMSA. i'm so glad i got back into Indycar, honestly. great sport to be a part of community for~
these cars on road course are like full on revived turbo era F1 with faster shifting. epic.
cant wait for this season to start.
I'm going to play this as my sound track while watching F1, and I've never seen Sonoma green before lol
It is unreal how green Sonoma is this time of year.
Yeah, I was more than a bit astonished, staring at the green instead of the yellow-sand colour I was used to, driving this track in my favourite racing sims :D

Zachary Menking #texit NASCAR just has too many cookie cutter ovals, needs more unique tracks

Sonoma's looking quite green
Dr. Bananable Lector crazy right?!? compared to the dry yellow we are used to it takes a second! Riverside raceway is the same and a shocker!
Does every winter
And the car adds to the effect because it's green too!
God I wish Indycar would move the Sonoma race to spring and at 11-12 pm instead of dead autumn at 3 pm
i agree!!
me too, the green rolling hills look so nice. especially with this green car.
euroaaRON1 EXACTLY
slippery doorknob. Yeah I hate having this race the final race of the season.
Has to be at 3 pm because it's 12 on the west coast
You can tell compared to last year that the cars are slower in the corners but faster in a straight line. The new dash looks nice and the engine sounds are good as usual. Oh and that's a lot of green.
they look like fuckin rocketships coming out of the corners.
It looks like a lot of under steering
Finally a steering wheel that looks like something made in the 10's
Simple beautiful and way more understandable.bruh I think imma love indy more
I really like the videos that start with the driver putting on his gear in the hauler and show the walk out to the car and the strap in process. Getting to listen to the little chats along the way is very interesting. There are lots of videos of just driving, hopefully you can do one of those.
Thanks
Wow this visor cam really shows the physicality of these new cars. Going to be a great season
I wish Indy would make that back straight another passing zone and get rid of that tight right/left before the end of the lap.
Same.

The new car is sleek, and it's awesome!
The sound is amazing. By the way, the circuit is awesome.
Simone Taddia usually it's all brown when they race there. It's so nice all green
look and sound better than the current F1 cars.
Benjamin Kuhl nope
Still slower, though
indy cars have a way higher top speed,

Oh really?
I didn’t know Sonoma could be so green and lush.
OhItsThat would you Please give my racing channel a Subscribe
We only have two seasons here, wet and dry😊
That is as green as I have ever seen Sonoma! Hope Spencer does well this season..!
That sonoma uphill is a BLAST!! Epic one!
Judging by the rear view mirror, you can always assess whether a visor cam is higher or lower than the driver's eye level. This seems to be spot on, more or less exactly what the driver sees.
I would love to see Senna driving this car. It seems, by the onboard, that an agressive driving style fit it very well.
Check out the effort he's putting into the steering. I'm really excited for this year's championship.
the season opener or just an early spring race could be in a green sonoma, would be fun to see that for a few years
Wonderful livery. Beautiful track.
Indycar is everything that F1 isn't at the moment great looking cars, great engine sound from the V6 and no bullshit DRS or halo to be seen and I've been a big F1 fan for 20 years now.
current F1 still looks better tho .... even with the Halo lol. but cant argue about the sound xD that v6 sounds awful
"Hey Spence, what's your comment after these few laps of training?"
"Well Pete, we have a great ca ca ca ca ca car and I can't wai ai ai ai ait for the ra ra ra ra race."
"Thanks Spence, what about your back pain you told us the last time?"

I've raced about a million miles at Sears Point on a bike, and have NEVER seen the Carousel so short🤣
sonoma looks so much better when there is grass
Ryan Brown until it dries out and catches fire
Awesome sound!
why do they use the dragstrip turn 7 instead of the double apex turn 7? And why use the shorter turn 11 instead of the famous right sweeper? Is ir a Indy Car thing or something related to the design of the cars?
i miss the double apex dragstrip turn 7 that they used to run from 2005-2011. as for the turn 11, i have no idea why it's was done how it was.
Awesome. Can’t wait for the season to start 👍👍👍
Also love the new steering wheel 👌👌👌
is that grass? When did Sonoma leave california
These cars are tast. Bring on St Pete!
That cockpit seems incredibly open for a modern race car (especially the driver's hands)
GT4 memories 🖤
Meowsive oversteer in those first few hotlap corners!
What sim is this ?
Holy mother of fuck. SO this is the new car? Im a 30 year f1 watcher and havent paid attention to the Indy Cars since the late 90's. Im back babY!
wow. incredible speed
Needs a 4k camera for visor!
Like new livery.
Can some one explain to me why the tires look it running backwards when downshifting,
Shutter speed of the camera
i know, brain can compensate alot shaking when you really sit in that car and this are your eyes. the sunreflection isn't so hard in reallife too, maybe. but jeeze i can't imagine how it is to fight against others on this track, or react fast and correct on incidents. it's tough for sure.
we need this in f1
Is it just me, or do these hill sides, for example 01:47 and 02:07 look very sketchy being exposed like that to a car, out of control, barrelling towards them at high speed? I reckon one could launch a huge jump from cutting the corner at 02:07

its the nature of sonoma, you just cant go to far off track
Que carroça...SF 71
YASS!!!!!!!!!!
Cool!
why this car dont have oversteer?
Why lower downforce?
Faster straight line speeds. Harder to drive cars and improved overtaking.
tommythetreat000 how does lowering downforce improve overtaking?
Its easier for the cars to follow each other through corners with less dirty air. As far as the road course/street circuit races are concerned, it has worked. Compare it to F1 and all the downforce those cars have and how tough it is for the cars to follow.
Sonoma with green grass seriously doesn't even look like the same track. Are we sure this is Sonoma?
Go Honda!
Are those goddamn concrete barriers?
Looks much more exciting than F1.
that would be because, it is.
Boy, that car has massive understeer!
Alastair Jones where? By his lat trip he was all over the apexs
Radioactive Trees, just look at the steering angles and the amount of front scrub aka understeer
Thank God I'm not the only one. The car really doesn't want to turn.
What I would give to drive a monster like that...
James Sackuvich would you Please give my racing channel a Subscribe
Sonoma with grass looks great. Put on a couple more trees and it could become a new personal favourite.
Plz dont go back to the dirt
Understeer, understeer, understeer, understeer, tyres warm, all good...
He's doing a tank slapper out of the pits with an exposed wall end feet away! Throw some water filled barriers in there please!
I wish F1 had visor cames as well :/
Racing Fan Really? With the HALO now?
Pretty sure I would overshoot 90% of those turns
infenion i believe
things i learned Through time:
1+1=2
2+2=4
Americans know how to run a sport
These cars don’t have much downforce compared to a F1 car
Check out our podcast! We do a show on this..
Sounds like a Formula 1 car.
GamingGamer01 an old 80’s turbo-era F1 car but with much faster shifts.
this is nota sonoma
How do they manage to make the cars uglier every year?
well, the cars looked good, arguably the best looking open wheel cars in the world, from 2008-2011. and then the DW12 happen'd. and then the aerokit DW12's happen'd. only with the IR-18 have the cars started to not look crap anymore.
watch at .75 speed to see realistic mapping of frame rate. This is speeded up like night rider.
its not sonoma its infineon or someshit nascar track sonomas in arizona
ham brgr there literally the same track 😂
Man that car is handling like a piece of shit.. Feel bad for Spencer..
indy car is so amateur f1 rules
Then why are you watching Indycar videos?
that is a flat out lie and you know it. Indycar is the purest form of racing there is, and easily has the best racing product of anything that isn't IMSA. i'm so glad i got back into Indycar, honestly. great sport to be a part of community for~
