What you have and what the problem with this country is is not the government per se, not the senators and congressman, but the little pissants who work for these bureaucracies and have a little bit of power to screw with people it’s disgusting and how do I know this I used to work for the EPA and I know how they are.
Seeing the actual company respond to comments on this RUclips video is what made me seriously want to purchase the filters. I’m waiting for their new fluoride filter before I buy anything though!
Thanks for pointing out the difference with the ProOne filters which we have been happy with. Given how long these last according to testing, think I'll in vest in a set - its a very good deal if they last that long. Our water is pretty darn hard so we'll see if we get that much but a bargain at half that. It was amazing once we started filtering a few years ago the difference is smell and taste.
I am an RN and watching you try to get adequate pressure to prime your black filter lead me to think about the 20cc syringes used for things like feeding a dog with an esophageal feeding tube. You can but the 20 ml syringes online or even at a vet clinic. I would fill the syringe with water and place it against the opening in the flutter, then gently push down the plunger on the syringe……GENTLY. YOU CAN APPROXIMATE THE TEICKLE OF FAUCET WATER YOU WOULD OTJERWISE GET FROM YOUR FAUCET BUT GET A BETTER SEAL. THE NICE THING TOO IS THAT ANYONE CAN GO ONLINE AND BUY THE 20 ml, or larger, syringes by the box. Thus allowing you to have a STASH at home in case you need them if he grid goes down. Hope this helps. Also, you might want to purchase an inexpensive turkey blaster and have it be dedicated to this use…worth a try. The end of the blaster should fit down into the rubber nipple and form a seal. You always have to be able to improvise!!!!!
i unscreweed my faucet head, then put it into the new primer nipple, it worked really well. most modern facets let you unscrew the head, then you can jam in the smaller section into the nipple then hold it into place and it primed things. thus far its' much quicker at filtering. and taste great, i'd had my filters in use for almost 4 years about 1 year too long. so glad to get better filtration again
Thank you for finding these new filters for my Berkey that I love. I still have a couple replacement filters from Berkey but it is nice to know that I can get more that is not from china.
You can also use a black berkey priming bulb and connection. They used to sell them for fairly cheap. 20 bucks or so don’t know about now. Just rigged one up with some tubing and a baby nose unplugger (unused) one time when the kids were small.
@@CountryLivingExperience I'm glad there is a new alternative.. I'm greatful that you made this video as I keep a very close eye on the berkey drama because my lifestyle and life require the berkey.. I live off grid and I trust berkey
@CountryLivingExperience thanks so much... we purchased something like the Berkey, from a company that make a large batch for missionaries- special order- then the ministry backed out on them, and they sold them to recoup the $'s spent to make them... and while we have a couple other systems in place- 2 is 1 and 1 is none system we believe works best... Thanks again and blessings
@CountryLivingExperience I'll need to find the name of it. This was about 4 months ago... I'll check... I believe we paid $59 for the container and filter... I could be wrong- I won't be home for a couple days- I'll check then
I got excited seeing a replacement filter but I can not go back to Berkey product again. Been with Berkey for about 20 years and purchased 3 Big Berkeys for family members. The past year or so Berkey filters failed one after another then it got to the point where paying the shipping felt like a smack in the face for an issue they couldn’t resolve. The various issues I ran into were cloudy water, and failed red dye tests. This new company reminds me of failed INCs that just change their names. Thanks for your videos.
Thanks for this review. It says on the website these filters are good for 6000 gallons and 12000 gallons for a pair. That’s decades of use for me! Any videos on cleaning the filters? How often is it necessary to clean?
I have never had to clean ours with the tap water we have. The only time I have seen others clean theirs is when they have calcium lime buildup on the exterior of the filters. I have never had to do that.
I have white pProOne filters and you can see greenish yellow build up on them. I like the fact that they are a color that you can see what's building up on them. I can virtually guarantee you something is building up on these filters as well. Also, always clean you faucet aerators as they build up mold like substances in them. Most people don't think about that.
@@CountryLivingExperience that they stopped with black filters is that world wide or just the USA? I will look into this. I don't have one yet but I want one in the future.
@@CountryLivingExperience That's equivalent to saying I should use a LifeStraw or Sawyer filter "regularly". 1) I can't afford to take up that much space on my counter all the time and 2) I don't need to filter normal tap water. My Berkey is for emergency use only.
@@steveb855 No, Berkeys are for normal usage and filtering the garbage out of your tap water in addition to being useful in an emergency. My first set of filters lasted 3 years for a family of 4. $140 for 3 years for 4 people is almost negligible .
Thank you for this update! Have you heard of Katadyn ceramic water filters? My family had one 20+ years ago with Y2K. They were really good back then. I wonder if they compare to Burkey.
My original berky filters smelled like gasoline and made the water taste like gasoline. I have read in a few posts on the Boroux filters, there is a similar smell and taste problem. This was not on all the posts I read, only a few.
What should we do with extra Black Berkey filters that we already have stored away? I have 16 of them in my SHTF storage. Should I replace them for these new ones, or just keep using the ones I already have?
@@CountryLivingExperience Ok thanks, with all the EPA stuff people keep saying to not use them anymore, but I have still been using mine with no problems.
The printed instructions "strongly recommend" performing the red dye test. Is there a reason you didn't do the red dye test? (other than it takes 30 minutes!). I have the Berkey Travel.
In the video he clearly says and shows that you would have to disinfect the bacteria from pond water with chlorine of some sort (bleach) then this filter would remove the bleach and the other contaminates. He also included links under the video which he mentions in the video.
My four Berkey filters lasted just under five years with moderate use (five people). Although, in the last six months my children were filling up large water canisters multiple times a day for sports/exercise which wore the filters out faster. I was having to refill the large Berkey tank with water 3-4 times a day at that point. Otherwise, they would of lasted more than five years.
We use only the British Berkefeld ceramic filters. Not to expensive and NSF tested. My opinion is the the black filters do little and without knowing the number of gallons the tests are based on makes it worthless.
What's the purpose of even getting g a burkey if you have to use clean water? I thought most people got them so theyd have access to clean water per the filter! In otherwords, if you had an outside source of water, stream, pond, you could use this water after running through the burkey filter!
For a pair of filters that is proven to be effective for 12,000 gallons (using one gallon a day, that’s 32 years!) we think $140 is a really great value!

I don't know. I don't own and Alexa pro.
Yes! They'll fit!
When the water is about half way down the boroux filters, mine just drip and take a while to filter the rest of the container. Is that normal?

This is the alternative. I don't know the microns.
British Berkefeld. They are the original gravity filter design that somehow Berkey basically copied. Get the ceramic filters, actually tested!
In short, use the lowest number of gallons filtered of which element, doesn’t matter, and that’s your true efficiency / effectiveness.
Does the filtered water pass through plastic?
A small 2" tube

They are not developed yet as far as I know.
