Handy tool that Jim. We use them in switchboards all the time, it makes loose connections and component failures so easy to find. But they’re not cheap. As for the demonetization, we can’t all be Delboy’s Garage 😉
You just did a video(fairly new) where someone said they couldn't show your videos b/c of you swearing. I posted up on the subject telling you; Let him bleep out all the words he doesn't want in the videos & don't you change a word for anyone !! I did mean that because free men can speak the way they speak, no one has to listen & I hope you were not demonetized for nasty words.... I don't own a bike or ride at all, I just like watching people who are good at what they do - You do this!
Had the same failure on my 1998 600F, eventually upgraded to a Shindengen mosfet reg/rec and an Electrex generator, and made my own loom from stator to reg/rec and reg/rec to battery. Never a problem after that.
I really enjoy watching your videos, i wish every mechanic was so methodical. If i wasn't located on the Isle of man i bring all my bikes to you without a second thought👍
Jim, I've only just come across your channel but it's one of best go to channels now for entertainment as well as education. Really like your style as it's funny, real life but informative all in a 1er. I'm green with envy of the workshop set up in the van 😀. Keep up the good work and I look forward to going through the rest of your videos.
I love the diagnostic smarts, your a straight shooter and I could sit down and have a few with a smart normal hard working blue collar man. Specialty tools rock and most likely is your kind of tunes! Ride on, great vids.
I've used thermal cameras on component level pcb repair and high current cable runs. They are briliant for finding components being overloaded as you've found. Keep um coming.
Hi Mate. Had a few Hondas over the years, always had problems with charging and the Reg/Rec's. Found this guy in US fitted one to my son's Blackbird, fantastic results.
I bought a Tourmax spark plug cap for much cheaper than OEM Yamaha and noticed when installing it and the OEM cap both were made by Mitsubishi which surprised me as I was thinking it might've been tat. BTW your van setup is awesome EDIT oh yeah I installed one of those USB + voltmeter combo things on my bikes so I can tell something is up early
Tip for you Jim when fitting a new battery. small bit of felt self adhesive pad on the connector nut to lift it up so the shortish screw can start to thread, works great especially if you have Optimate wires etc on the main bat terminals and the screw will not go far enough down to catch, also it can stop the nut falling off and into the black hole never to be see again. Thought of the thermal imagining camera to find bad connections too. regards

Had a blackbird that the generator tested fine initially then broke down when hot.. New generator sorted it.. I tried several reg recs before getting a mechanic to look at it. He found generaator issue by chance..
would have been interesting to see the wave form from the gen with the reg rec' connected... i wounder if the tops are still cut off the wave form i.e the reg rec' is working????
Nice vids. A dodgy tech would charge honda price for reg/rec and new gen. Your just not thinking to hard about how they get the most £ out of customers. Very nice setup in the van.
2 years too late ... but ... it was a Tour Max Reg/ Rec. Made in Japan, quality after market parts maker / supplier. I've used their brake caliper seals kits & master cylinder rebuild kits in the past with no issues.

Quick question. Why do you not just use a clamp on ammeter for parasitic? It’s what I use in automotive. Haven had a need on my bikes yet. So haven’t tried.
I have an amp clamp for the meter I was using but find the results a bit inaccurate with really low current flow. I prefer to connect directly so what you see is what you get. Probably time to invest in a new clamp as it is 15 years old!
Superbike Surgery Ltd yes. Maybe. Mine is fairly new. Plus I have a clamp on digital one that does fairly low current and fairly well. I use to calibrate meters when I was en electronics tech at a college. If they are dropped and what not they don’t stay accurate! Great vids. I think after a while we become more curse worthy working in bikes and cars! LOL Probably why I don’t do vids! LOL AWESOME truck setup!
This OEM Yuasa Batery can live more than 10years - recharge it and it will be still good cause it hi quality. 2 thing- make a passing cooling a regulator - from a flat copper pipe and old computer processor radiator. - it make huge difference - i have OEM regulator in my f4i - 19 years -with passive cooling and it work excelent - temperature is now max 40'C before was about 75-80'C
Electronics are way out of my league, especially at this level, though I found myself following the just more this time as you were not using Latin but everyday speak. Quite right, don't let anyone see inside your box.
Call me a pedant if you like. The generator is designed for two purposes, primary to power the bike, secondary is to recharge the battery. The battery is used when the generator has insufficient output to power the bike, to start the bike providing high current for the starter and to give a load for the generator to help smooth the DC voltage.
So you can have a whole channel persuading kids to end their lives but a “ sweary “ commentary with a P.G rating takes your money..!!! Imagine what A.I. Is going to do to you when it has access to your whole life…😳😱
Had 2 fail on 2 separate CBR 1000's over the years .... moved the reg.rec to the front of the bike because HONDA are idiots mounting them in a place that get bugger all airflow over them and they cook themselves do death!
Do RUclips really think in their wildest dreams that your able to fettle a Motorcycle without added expletives, Fekwits !! Oh and I see a couple of Snowflakes watched the Video hence the Thumbs down lol Probably work for the Tube !
