    Use old pads to push back the piston.

    On Chevy trucks, the O ring on the caliper piston swells from the fluid and causes the piston to stick, causing the brake pads to be tight when not pressing on the brake pedal. Parts stores don't sell these rebuild parts, expect you to buy another caliper complete and exchange the old one. I pulled an O ring from one side and ground it down in the lathe and it works great for three years now.

      A swollen O ring is never good.

    Way too much grease. Need to wipe clean all exterior areas. Excess grease will liquify when hot and splatter all over the pads and rotor reducing stopping power.

    I'm gonna guess that in the previous brake job, the metal slide guides were removed and that is actually the problem.

      That's a good guess, but the 2000 Jeep Sport brakes don't have the slider plate hardware for some reason. Just good ol' rusty metal on rusty metal.

    Those pads don't seat on stainless steel hardware?

      Not with this set. That would probably help though.

    Grease should not be used anywhere but the slide pins. The grease will attract dirt to any greased parts and cause problems.

      Sometimes the caliper piston is stuck. The fix is to push out the piston by stepping on the brake pedal to expose the rubber boot around the piston. Then gently push back the piston evenly and make sure the rubber boot moves freely with the piston. Repeat just to check the movement of the piston and the rubber boot.

      Thanks! It's definitely possible that the friction on the piston is resolving itself when I press it all the way in with the c-clamp.

      If it had the plates the pads sit in you gresse the bottom that touches the bracket to keep break noise down.

    Da why don't you lube up the rotor while your at it

    • @mrmanautomotive
      @mrmanautomotive  3 года назад +2

      We want the lube on the bushings to keep the brakes from sticking while driving, but we do not want lube on the rotors to keep the brakes from slipping while stopping. In this case I was actually a bit excessive with the lube running the risk of spilling over onto the rotors. All worked out fine in the end though.
