This was an amazing instructional video! I replaced all plugs and the EGR valve at the same time. Our 2009 Town and Country runs like new again! My wife will be happy! Thanks Thanks and Thanks!
You're welcome.
Great video 👌. Great job calling out the socket and bolt sizes!
watching this video almost two years ago, helped me to replace the spark plugs. Now I watching it again to find the PCV valve and the EGR valve for replacement. Thank you so much for the instructions. monkey see, monkey do..
Thanks man. I changed the spark plugs on my VW Routan 2009 and after battling some rusted bolts I managed to change them all and now no more shakes or stalls. Great video!
Thanks!
Thank You for taking the time to make this instructional video. Excellent !!!
Well, here it is 11-19-23 and not only am I just now replacing the spark plugs I am also replacing upper & lower gaskets, tube seals/O rings and grommets as well as the EGR tube seal/gasket. I never did them when I watched 4 years ago.🥴
Thank you sir for taking the time and effort to make this vid, it’s been a blessing.
Welcome!
Thank you! Very good video, easy to follow. I'm complete dummy with vehicles and this made it very easy. Thank you
Did all this today on 2010 4.0 T&C. New plugs, cracked coil #4 and new injector #4. Had P0304 and P0204 codes. Also has 158 code but going to see if previous codes made the 158 pop. New Fel-Pro intake gasket. Fixed a vacuum leak in one of the hoses. Pretty simple just time.
Great video was really helpful, Thanks
Love this engine. Very nice video Man!
TIA!
I have to say again, Thanks so much!
SUPER HELPFUL!!
Thanks GREAT video
And that's why I pay the professionals. Nice vid
Gracias buen video
Thanks so much, man! I just replaced cylinder 3 plug and coil, and threw it all back together. Ran smooth (as opposed to the rough running from prior to the replaced plug and coil)but the Check Engine light is still on. Also had a decent amount of smoke from the passenger side of the engine, and now I'm afraid I fried something
Hopefully it will burn off. Check, and clear codes.
Do you have the layout of cylinder
@mrwalmart17 No, sorry man. It (smoke after replacement) ended up being just oil from the gasket. This fixed it, after that
Outstanding Video, like the pointers.
My 4.0 is running rough and vibrating when stopped.
Replaced the engine mounts and plugs about 15K ago.
Starting to think it’s the EGR or a coil pack.
????!
If there is no check engine light, and no misfire data, it may not be a coil.
Thats gotta be the easiest minivan to change plugs on
Hi, I'm Jhonny from New York. Congratulations on your work and the impeccable, technical, specific and professional way in which you work and explain everything. You are very intelligent and fine in your work and in the way you explain everything and how you do everything, you are a true high-level and high-end mechanic that today are not very common, I like it very much. continue like this and thank you very much. Now I want to ask you which 2009 Chrysler town country engine is the best, the 3.8l or the 4.0l. I wait your answer. thank you very much and God bless you
Honda 3.5L. Toyota 3.5. I think a 4.0 is a VW. Nothing good comes out of VW. Sorry, I'm no good at multiple guess. Too many wrong answers.
@@RustBeltAuto
4.0 is Chrysler.
I liked the 3.3 in the earlier Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge vehicles.
Sorry, I don't put the words best, and Chrysler in the same sentence.
Great job, I have a P0305 misfire cylinder 5, I was going to replace the coil pack, should I replace all of them or just the one showing bad?
I would do just one, or swap it with a different coil to see if the misfire changes cylinders to diagnose the problem.
Check the intake gasket where cylinder 4 and 5 meet. If you see a flat spot where the intake sticks out more than the gasket, it could just be the gasket. Alot cheaper than a coil pack. Then check plug for being fouled out. Then swap coil packs and see if problem pops up on different cylinder. If it does. That's the problem.
When you swap the coil do you have to completely reassemble to test?
Is this the same engine that's in the 07 Chrysler Pacifica 4.0l awd limited?
I would imagine it is different, but the same.
DO YOU HAVE A EGR VALVE CLEANING OR REPLACEMENT VIDEO FOR THEIS SAME EXACT MODEL 4.0L AND YEAR?
I DO NOT.
Can some one show me how to replace valve cover gasket on this 4.0 T&C or Grand caravan
Rust Belt Auto Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge. Your explanation is the Real deal. Can I ask you a question. I have a 2010 Town And Country 4.0 , at 4:08 when I took out the things that go just above the sparkplugs, these things were all oily, and the sparkplugs well were flooded with oil.... what can I do to fix that?
Nothing. Those metal tubes can leak a little bit sometimes. They are press fit into the cylinder head, and they have no seals. Technically, they are not supposed to leak. That amount is a leak from the entire life of the vehicle, so believe it or not, technically it is probably not as big of a leak as you might think. You take the plug out, and it will run down into the cylinder, and burn off. I usually take some brake cleaner, and hose the hole, and coil down a little too. Oil is an electrical insulator, so it does not effect ignition coil operation, however, it can swell the rubber on the coil a bit.
@@RustBeltAuto thank you so much, have a great week
@@edsaloru1 you're welcome. I will have a ford, Ford, impala, subaru, Ford week from the looks of it.
My check engine light came on after doing all this any suggestions ?
See what the code is.
I'm about to tackle this, I'm getting a p0301, and p0201 code. Hoping it's just plugs, but since I'm already in there should I do the injectors also, I just turned 100k .
Thanks
Injectors rarely go bad. If they do, it's usually just one. Swap some coils around when you are in there, and see if the codes are different if they show up again. Then you will know you have some bad coils, if same, a problem with the cylinder head or something.
@@RustBeltAuto thank you for this video, saved me $100s. I changed plugs and was still getting the codes, so I took your advice about the injectors and found cylinder one injector had a out of spec ohms reading. I replaced that and I'm good to go. cant thank you enough.
I’m thinking about buying one of these vehicles how is that engine thank you very much for your time
They are okay.
Excellent, thank you!!!!!!!!
Do you which one is cylinder number 2?
A google search should give you the right answers
Great video! Do you know which one is cylinder number 6 ? Thanks

What’s the firing order I can’t find it online please help
It's coil on plig isn't it? You dont need firing order. You mean cylinder identification?
2:39 Do you know what that grey rubber gasket is called on that egr tube?
Egr pipe seal thing for the intake plenum. That's what I call it. Parts people figure it out. Cannot ever remember needing to replace that neoprene thing. You got a vacuum leak/lean bank code/positive fuel trim, or something?
Had to change my egr valve w/ both gaskets, but i had a weird space (where that gaskets goes) i tried finding diagrams but your video is the only one that helped me figure out that space needs a gasket. Thank you
Just left orileys and autozone empty handed. They didnt know either. Told me to go to the dealership
@@ajtee721 Did you see if it is in an upper plenum gasket set? They probably have it, and don't know what it is. You might have too google search for it. I find things for them that way. Give them a factory part # if you can find it. Where's the old one?
Where is the cylinder 6 located
Google it
Did you have to reprogram the throttle body afterwards
No
@@RustBeltAuto thx for the reply. So it’s one of the few etb that does not need reprogramming
@@teddiazjr.6223 you are not changing any of those parts.
Can you tell me where Cam position sensor?
I googled it, and found it in seconds. It's below the alternator.
@@RustBeltAuto Thanks. So shoud I replace it, We need came out alternator before?
@@MosesChanhoMoon I don't know
@@RustBeltAuto No pressure Thanks.. I will take it!!!
I need this done on our Town and Country. Where are you located?
Never never land. I'm some private screwball entity.

♥ .•:*¨¨*:•. ♥ I truly enjoyed your informational video. I didn't mind the chewing as I thought it added comedy to such a task on this vehicle. I have one as well. As soon as I got 'him' cleaned, sealed and waxed (for the first time) sure enough, catalytic converter started acting up. P0430. 'He' (because I'm a female) is definitely gonna need 'his' inside worked on to match 'his' handsome, gorgeous and shiny outside. 202,000 miles on it but 'he' looks amazing! Thanks again! ♥ .•:*¨¨*:•. ♥
Be careful giving your vehicle a male/female designation. That would imply it has a soul, and may become possessed. Like the movie Christine. 😝. Life is such a comedy. Thanks for watching.
@@RustBeltAuto Oh, Boy! That would be kind of amazing if 'he' would be like Christine. That would mean 'he' RUNS! 😂😂
@@jaywholoveseveryone1721 ya, runs (people over).
Long time no talk, friend of mine has this same shitty van and I think it needs plugs. Thing misfired on her and she had to taken to the dealer I think. Is 4 hours of labor too long to change the plugs, looks like it could be done in an hour?
the 4.0 is more labor than a 3.3/3.8. So they say.
@@RustBeltAuto Thanks pal! I'm going to start watching some of your new vids, I know you have missed my goofy comments...
New set of plugs fixed the old 4.0 turd.
Is the egr valve rite about 3in down that tube if u notice? Im going to do plugs but also the egr valve on wifes. Shutting off while driving. Just running thru the paces now after doing timing belt water pump cam and crank seals new balancer new motor mounts and new water pump plate gaskets. Now shutting down cyl 6 random misfire and shutting down while driving. Fck yea! 😁😥
You put a timing belt on a 4.0L Chrysler Caravan engine? I think I did a video on one of those EGR valves. If you cannot find it, it will be hidden in plain view.
A 2010 town and country with 4.0. Yes the belt water pump seals gaskets 2 motor mounts oil pan gasket. Its a real biatch.
@@quadsquadfamily7484 I have never done a timing belt on a Caravan, and don't recall ever seeing one on a Caravan. I actually had to look it up, because I didn't believe you. Really strange I didn't know, or even notice. Done them on Concord's and stuff though. Obviously didn't recommend one for this victim. Hope it doesn't break.
Yea the German made 4.0 that is in the chrysler town and country, dodge nitro, Volkswagen tourage and 1 jeep model i believe is a timing belt not chain. I was confused as well. And the water pump being bolted to a separate plate that covers water passages that the dealer could not even find the gaskets and seal for lead to rtv lol. If you come across one i dont recommend doing it with out a lift and a couple days time as well as a piling parts list as you get in deeper. The leak on wifes van was coolant and oil. Water pump and water pump plate as well as cam seals and crank seal all leaking at once and started all at the same time around 180k. Now after all that time and money new issue is shutting off while driving. So egr is first then on word 😥
I gotta pull the intake? Faaack
The main difference between a bolt and a screw is that a typical screw can work on its own and a bolt requires a nut to secure it. they are screws
Agreed. Technically, a bolt requires threads.
@@RustBeltAuto My nuts aren't threaded, so I just screw everything.
This guy from Fargo😂😂
White Bear Lake actually. That was in the movie too ya know.
@@RustBeltAuto ah ok good to know. Great video btw
We get it, the filter is bad
I don't get it.
What are you doing in the DARK! ASMR LAMO.
I hate their fasteners, they seem to just get brittle and break easy. I just worked on one of these piles over the weekend. Check my video out and subscribe man!!! I have to say that it's not a terrible car to work on, but man, I've never own one of these junks... OKAY BYE!
Perhaps the manufacturer makes “childproof” fasteners for mechanics with a child’s intelligence.
Insurance for the children who engineered it.
Lol!
Useful video, but really digressed with the air filter....Also, really unpleasant to hear you chewing and talking. We don't want to know what you are eating, either.
Your digressed about an air filter? There might be a pill for that. What you mean "we"? You got a mouse in your pocket? I don't care, I do what I want. Thanks for watching.
Thanks. But dont eat and talk.
