    Thank You Motorcity Mechanic.com. I haven't touched an automobile for a long time but the cost of a 100K Tune up forced me to seek alternatives to pay $600.00 for a tuneup I watched your instruction video and thought, "I can do that". It was like the 1970's all over again. I was wrenching on an engine and not worried about messing it up. Thank You again, I put out $100.00 for parts and tools to do a tune up, including the PVC Valve, and saved approximately $500.00! I'm so damn proud of myself and I owe it all to your instruction video. Thank You!

    Dave, as always Really Great Videos, Thanks for your help with the Chrysler 2011 - 16 Townand countrys!!!!
    I have an issue thats going on with my 2013 T & C Touring’s ( 3.6L Pentastr) Positive Battery cable terminal.
    Some time ago, It corroded pretty badly before I was aware of it, and before I could clean the corrosion off to save it and half of it was gone, so the Positive terminal was just half GONE (fell off) and would no longer clamp onto the post.
    I cut it off as CLOSE as I could to the factory crimp / backshell, and I spliced on what aftermarket parts I could get from auto parts stores only because what the dealer parts department sold me does not seem to connect to a bare wire end, and when I pointed it out to the parts department at the dealer, the parts guy was baffled, too !! I sent you an email about it, with some photos, I’m sorry if it was a long winded email! Anyway, the problem I’m having is now with a new battery and a new alternato (alternator about 16 months old), The vehicle Computer’s diagnostics are not happy with the splice connection at the positive terminal - I THINK. Just wondering what I can do now? I even asked him about a new harness, but they only sell the entire massive engine bay harness and they told me it is $1100.

    Hey Dave, thanks for your videos they are always very informative. I'm trying to figure out how to replace the PCV valve on my 2011 3.6L Chrysler T&C. My air filter has some oil on it. If you could help that would be great man.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 лет назад +1

      The PCV valve is on the back valve cover at the rear of the engine above the transmission. It has two torx screws holding it on and one hose that runs from the PCV to the intake that you need to remove. I may eventually need to do a video on the replacement. I had to take one off friday while checking the excessive oil consumption so its fresh in my mind lol. Thanks for the question and make sure to subscribe. Keep watching and share the videos!

    Hi David, you have a great teaching style; Very detailed and knowledgeable. Question for you: I have a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country that has 126000 miles on it. I absolutely love the van. best van I’ve ever had. Been idling rough the past few days Yesterday got P0301 code. Today I went and got factory plugs and changed them. Plugs were worn But all coils looked good. Switched coils 1 and 3 just to see if coil was bad as well. Reset code and went for test drive. Definitely more power but still had rough idle ( not noticeable at higher speeds) drove around 30 min. and no code. Thumbs up for me right... Wrong! While in the drive through (at idle) waiting on my celebratory chocolate shake, boom! Check engine light pops back on. Same code P0301. What other areas can it be that I could check? And give me some worse case scenarios as well Please. Thank you for your time.

    Thank you for this video. This was spot on. How ever, I had one issue with torquing the upper intake. One of the screws broke. Don't know what to do. I tried an extractor that didn't seem to work. It was the number one screw to torque from the 3rd video. I purchase a screw from the dealer but can't seem to get this one out. Will I do major damage? The upper intake seems to be on pretty tight. I have the 2011 GCaravan

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 лет назад +1

      For now I would see how things go. In a perfect world I would say try to remove the broken bolt/screw buy drilling out the center and using an extractor if it broke off flush with the lower intake. Make sure its flush with the lower intake...it may have broke off and if you remove the upper intake again you may find that there is enough sticking up to grap and back out. If you have tried that already then I would feel okay with seeing if it leaks first. So I gave you the proper repair and then the real world repair.

    I am having issues getting the plastic housing in front of the throttle body to snap back onto the pegs. It as if the pegs are to large for the rubber hole. No matter how hard I wiggle it or push downwards they won't insert. Are they meany to rest in top of the pegs? Any suggestions?

    • @MotorCityMechanic

      What I recommend doing is adding some grease to the rubber or the studs that it mounts to. Then once you get it lined up....pressing down. Typically thats all I need to do to get it back on. The pegs will actually go inside the rubber once fully seated. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.

  • @NickDe39
    @NickDe39 3 года назад

    Ha, just a tad more complicated than changing the spark plugs on my old 1948 Chrysler New Yorker flat head straight six. Son is coming over with his 30th anniversary T&C. Can tell you, can't beat an old fashion ignition point system, so called condenser, actually an oil capacitor resonates the coil so you get an extended spark line. Can't do this with a unipolar transistor, does not turn off a quick as opening points, and no spark line that decays exponentially. Just one 0.5 microsecond pulse. Never put in a spark plug out of the box, that ground electrode has to be perfectly centered over the hot center electrode and want a gap of 0.025 inches. Those coil over plugs have a very small auto transformer with a rather low energy rating. Large gaps have a high voltage, but a far lesser current for a given number of joules giving you a spark that is easy to blow out and cause a misfire. Most have to be torqued at 12 pound feet, I go by feel, can feel that new washer collapse, has to be clean or get blowby, goodbye spark. Capacitor discharge would be far superior, but oh my God, will cost a couple of bucks more. Can't have that in an automobile that only cost $40K fully equipped.
    Still not sure why Chrysler is making that intake manifold so wide. 3 inch narrower on each side, no reason to remove it.

    Do you replace the intake manifold gaskets or do you re-used the old ones?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 лет назад +1

      It really depends Dennis, the right answer would be to say yes....replace it each time. But what I do is look at the seals. I mainly look to see if they are flattened or distorted. Some repairs I make are on low mileage vehicles and in those cases the seals still look brand new. While on the higher mileage engines.....the seals need replacing. Its best to error on the side of caution and replace the seals. So you have the book answer and then my answer lol. Thanks for the question and for watching. I show the valve cover removal in a video series I did on removing the left side head. The right side is the same except the PCV valve needs to be removed as well before removing the right side valve cover. Here is the link to that video series: ruclips.net/video/OG4-IKSwzFk/видео.html

    If you have cylinder 2 missfire. Could it be the head?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад

      Possibly. Depends on the year. I have seen more coil boot failures and rocker arm failures then head issues. Last head I replaced for this has been about a year or more ago. I would check the simple things first. A dead miss or miss under load will most likely be a bad coil boot. A skip at different times and at idle can be the roller rocker and a skip an every low rpms like parking lot maneuvers can be a burnt valve seat.

      Its a 2011. It has a slight miss at idle. While sitting at a redlight.

      Would you recomend buying a coil from the dealer vs auto store

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 лет назад

      I always recommend OEM (dealer) when ever possible.

    • @thehfamilyreviews5587
      @thehfamilyreviews5587 6 лет назад +1

      I took it to the dealer. They did a scan. They said it needs a no 2 coil. And 6 new plugs. I came home, put a new coil and the factory plugs in it. No change. It has 128k on it. Slight miss at idle. On acceleration, you cant feel anything. Also ive noticed that the lights flicker but the alternator and battery test good. Any suggestions?

    Dear Dave: Excellent video series and I am going to replace my long overdue spark plugs soon. I gathered some info.
    Prepared tools :
    3" Extension
    12" Extension
    10 mm Socket
    13 mm socket
    8 mm socket
    5/8" Spark Plug Socket (3/8")
    3/8" Drive Ratchet
    Torque Wrench
    Parts:
    NGK 9723
    upper intake gasket
    Dielectric Grease
    Questions:
    I think only the upper intake gaskets need to be replaced, since lower intake gaskets won't be touched. Is it right?
    the following is quoting from ngksparkplugs.com. So anti-seize seems not necessary.
    "NGK spark plugs feature what is known as trivalent plating. This silver- or chrome-colored finish on the threads is designed to provide corrosion resistance against moisture and chemicals. The coating also acts as a release agent during spark plug removal. NGK spark plugs are installed at the factory dry, without the use of anti-seize. NGK tech support has received a number of tech calls from installers who have over-tightened spark plugs because of the use of anti-seize. Anti-seize compound can act as a lubricant altering torque values up to 20 percent, increasing the risk of spark plug thread breakage."

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  4 года назад +1

      Yeah you only need the upper intake seals and no need for anti-seize. I never use it and never had any issues because of not using it. Looks like you pretty much have everything figured out. Just take your time and all should go well. Thanks for commenting and make sure to subscribe.

      @@MotorCityMechanic Dear Dave: appreciate your excellent tips and great instruction. Everything went well and 6 spark plugs easily came out. Since I had one rocker arm replaced in a shop, I had fewer fasteners to work on because they didn't put them back, such as the push pin fastener. Pliers really helped to remove those hoses. By the way, your Pentastar engine left cylinder head removal series had more professional diagram for the intake torque sequences. Best channel for Pentaster engine and 62 TE transmission!

      AdrianJayeOnline It takes about 1 1/2 hours max....typically faster then that once you do one and know the steps. still not as easy as the old plug wire days but again you only have to do it once every 100k miles. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
