Absolutely feel privileged to sit and listen to you two reminiscing. Love and Thanks ❤👍❤👍
Well spoken! 👍
well said.
Madison boy here. One of my life's most thrilling moments was driving for Genesis during the We Can't Dance tour in '92. They were playing Camp Randall stadium. I worked for a bus company (school buses, coaches, mini-coaches, that sort of thing) and thought we would be moving roadies around or something because we had plain white vans, not limos or anything. We get called to Truax field to pick up people and we are directed to drive out onto the airport ramp next to a huge jet. Turns out WE were carrying the band -- the limos were decoys. We saw the limo drivers at the stadium just hanging around, fans waiting for the band members, but NO ONE hung around the white vans waiting for autographs or anything. I thought it was genius. I got to drive Tony and Mike, I never got to drive Phil. But I was thrilled because Genesis had always been "my" band, my very favorite band, from the very beginning, right up until today at the age of 53. I never got up the courage to say anything to any of the band members except to Tony Banks as I was dropping him off after the show. I said something stupid like "Excellent show Mister Banks!" and he said thank you and walked into the hotel.
Daryl talking about Squonk and Los Endos and his audition with Mike. Fills in even more for me, thanks Leland.
Saw Daryl Stuermer around his birthday time in 2022. What a wonderful personality. Wholesome lovely people flock together…
Oh to be a fly on the wall in the room with those 2 freaking LEGENDS! Dang y'all ❣️
You just were the fly.😊
I was a huge Gino Vannelli fan in the 70s and saw him live in Ft Worth in 79 for the B2B tour and Daryl was in the band! Then I saw Phil live in 90 in Washington DC and both Daryl and Leland were there! That carousel show was the best concert I’ve ever been to outside of Gino and Genesis. Fantastic. I’ve loved Phil and Genesis since 80 and miss him so much. Love Leland’s interviews!! I even listened to Pete and Rittenour back in the day. We need good music again.
Thank you Daryl Stuermer and Leland Sklar for making this discussion available to be documented and remembered as a historical record.
And yes Madison like Berkeley were both known for their Anti-war protest. The University of Wisconsin's Madison campus, Oct. 18, 1967had hundreds of students protesting recruiters from Dow Chemical, the makers of napalm, blocked access to the University's Commerce Building, Madison police removed them by force.
“Yes, I received your letter yesterday
(About the time the doorknob broke)
When you asked how I was doing
Was that some kind of joke?
All these people that you mention
Yes, I know them, they're quite lame
I had to rearrange their faces
And give them all another name
Right now I can't read too good
Don't send me no more letters no
Not unless you mail them
From Desolation Row”
Bob Dylan
I will never get sick of the Hendrix Crosby Story. WHat a Historic memory to have!!!!!
Great Hang! Enigmatic Ocean is my favourite Jean Luc Ponty album.
'Enigmatic Ocean' 🎶 🎵 😊
both amazing humans. have a great week. Thanks for the decades of great memories.
More of the "Daryl & Leland Show"!
You and Daryl have always been some of my favorite musicians from the first time I heard you guys! such a nice hang to learn more about Y'all!
One of my all-time favorites of yours, Lee. You guys both have such genuine affection and respect for each other - it’s really wonderful.
This man is another legend! Thanks Darryl!
So cool....... This is the way it's supposed to be..... Musical brothers.....Love and respect.
Thanks Lee and Daryl.........Great stories!
Wishing Daryl all the best. Saw him many times with Genesis & Phil solo. A great sideman and musician.
two of my favorite musicians. humble and no nonsense!
There are so many great musicians and actors with Wisconsin ties.
One legend interviewing another legend. It doesn’t getting better than this! Thank you guys!
It’s so cool to hear Hendrix stories from the people who were actually there. Hope you had a great gig!
Wow, that was truly a special interview with two great musicians! Thank you both!
Hope to see more of these types of videos. 😉
Would love to see you both together making music again!
You two are so darling together....I never saw two better Wisconsin buddies. He is a very talented man...I have been watching PC videos all day..down in bed pre surgery... Your 2004tour... fabulous 😍🤩❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊
Two musical legends just chatting. Stunning! Thanks, Lee and Daryl.
Ive said it before and ill say it again, none of us will ever be as cool as session and touring musicians!
It's so awesome to see Daryl again!
Great interview Lee!
Thanks for making it happen!
I miss Phil, Mike, Tony, Daryl, and Chester!
I'm very thankful that I was able to see them in '07.
wow, i didnt expect that, such a nice gift you gave us, thanks leland, ive met daryl one time at a guitar clinic, and he even guested and played a solo on my band's album back in 2010, a really nice man, generous of his time
Daryl has to be one of the best and most underrated guitar players ever.
Cool story about how Darryl got the Genesis gig. Best sales job I ever had I thought I had zero chance of getting so I prepared for a week learning about the company and when I finally got the job my boss said I was the clear choice because I had done my research compared to the others. I only lasted a year, but there's a lesson in there somewhere! 😄
My hope is one day Lee gets to sit down like this with Phil. So cool.
I could have listened to you guys all night. I had the Berlin 1990 show on VHS.
I've been at the Berlin show! 😆 (Maybe the ticket is still in a shoebox in the attic)
Love Daryl, thanks for killing it on all those great Genesis tours and being Phil's guitar man solo. I could listen to the tour stories all day.
Wow!! Really excellent stories…. Amazing history ….You and Daryl have had such an international influence…Good old friends ….the love continues….yep…I think the leg piss bag cold be in all of our futures…😂Great to see you guys….Love ya man!❤️🌹🪷🌹🪷🌹🪷🎶🥰🖕🖕🖕🖕👍🙏💕
Met Daryl and his wife when they toured eastern provinces of Canada promoting Godin Guitars. He came in our li'l town's music shop, played for the 30 something fans sit around him few songs from Phil / Genesis catalog and 1 or 2 of his own. Great night. Q & A after he played so we've been able to talk gears, setup, tours. Had the priviledge to meet him, chat for few minutes, bought a Genesis DVD of their latest tour (at the time) and had it signed, took a picture. Real nice guy, down-to-earth, humble & kind. Great memories of the night I met a real professional musician I admire for decades. Never met you Lee but 'sure I'd feel the same. You've been in my life since No Jacket Required. Thanks
Wonderful to hear two friends reminiscing.
What a cool dude with a great story. Thank you for sharing!!
So good to hear you both talking
What an absolute TREAT to see and hear Daryl, one of my favorite guitarist/bassists, so much a part of Genesis as a live performer, and, of course, Phil's sound. I would have loved to have heard what he is doing now, but if he is just chilling and living a quiet life in his home town after years and years of playing on the road, I wouldn't blame him a bit.
Really thank you so much, I hope Phil watching, you're in my heart forever, you're the best forever too, really sweet memories for me too, I love you. From Paris, Peace and Love. Take care of yourself above all.
My first concert ever was The Genesis Abacab Tour at Nassau Coliseum . I was barely a teenager but I must have picked the right concert since its still my favorite show till this day. They even recorded it for Genesis three sides live album. I just started to play drums/piano .. so it was a also a big influence growing up. Daryl was a big part of that tour as on all Genesis tours.
Daryl !!! 🎸 🎶 👋 👏
I got to see Daryl with Genesis at Camp Randall Stadium for the We Can't Dance tour in 92! Beautiful night; great show
Lee Daryl stuermer love it 🎸🎶🎙️👑👏👏❤❤❤❤❤
This is so cool. Loved listening to Daryl talk about his start with Genesis.
Gentlemen. I have been a fan for 40 plus years. Just want you to know I appreciate you. Thank you for your creative talents. All the best.
I've been fortunate enough to have seen Daryl play with Genesis twice. First time was in 1984 at McNichols Arena in Denver and the second was in 2007 at the Hollywood Bowl.
Thanks Leland for sharing this terrific conversation.
So glad he’s still going strong & keeping healthy such an underrated lead guitarist & bassist for the best 2 bands in history hasn’t even aged a single bit we love you to bits Daryl hope you can get ur red stratocaster guitar out again soon & be back on the road with Lee in the future 🎸❤️
I’m a guitarist myself (beginner playing since late December) and have been absolutely obsessed with Daryl since last October when I watched the video of him playing alongside Phil Collins on In The Air Tonight in Paris but got a little worried since he hasn’t been active as much. I’m very glad to see that he’s doing really good and I hope he is still playing
Nice to hear these stories..two buddies and hanging out cool
You two, are very good together....thank you❤❤
Wow! Great interview! Thank you Leland for all these great videos and letting us live vicariously through them!
Oh, come on, two of my childhood heroes hanging around and talking about the old times. Out of the blue. Can't get better than that for quite some time, I suppose. Thanks for sharing!
Amazing to hear the stars backbeat that lit the music in my life - thanks Daryl & Le
A Wonderful history lesson for me! Thank you Leland and Daryl. I'm from Green Bay, WI and still vividly remember the name " SweetBottom " Have fun guys and stay safe. Have a Great show and also up at Fish Creek, WI
What a great hang with two old Milwaukee guys that made good! I truly cherish this! Thanks so much for sharing!
wonderful memories, thanks for this
Thank you for the sit down with Daryl. I'd seen him twice with Genesis and he's amazing. The best part is he seems to be just a normal, great guy.
Loved getting to "hang" with you two as you reminisced! Thank you for letting us all into your room! lol 😉😁❤
What a nice surprise! Have been listening to Daryl from the time that I discovered JLP's Enigmatic Ocean as a 10-year-old. His duel with Holdsworth is legendary. Have seen hm live many times since then. I still say that he is one of the industry's most underapprecaited players. His name isn't mentioned as frequently as it should be.
The best interviews are conversations, not interrogations. Really enjoyed this one.
if i see you both, i want to immediately practice guitar and bass - thanks for your music and inspiration. Stay safe.
Love how you guys reminisced some great stories !!
Sweet Jesus! This is why your Channel is so awesome. Looking good Daryl.
Very very cool! Personal success stories involving fate, timing, proximity, are always compelling and great to witness! Thanks for sharing these intimate memories that bring a much greater understanding for the players and music we love! Outstanding!
Daryl Stuermer is my chief inspiration. He's the reason I picked up guitar and bass to begin with. I had the honor of meetin' Daryl at the Mehaffey Theatre in Tampa, FL. I have Sweetbottom's album and Daryl's brother is an excellent bassist. I never knew Duane Stuermer was a veteran though. My late aunt was also in the Army. She was a nurse in one of the Frontline hospitals durin' Vietnam. I sure do thank Duane for his service. I also just got a Lakland 5 string lined fretless bass. And it sounds cool 😎
Man that was great! What a treat listening to those cats wax on.
Hola desde España, Daryl y Leland. 😊
What a special treat that was. I could listen to you and your fellow musicians tell stories all night long. Thank you! 👏👏👏
Cool!!! Wow! I just remembered being in Madison, Wisconsin nearly a 1,000 years ago. . .cool. . .! Now totally fantastic that you have time with Daryl Steurmer! 😊 Nice! Thank You! 😊
So cool this is! thanks Le & Daryl!
This is why I love these interviews. You hear so much more additional stories from lee. He’s really a treasure trove of great trivia about his career.
Great talk, what a treat!!, Thank You and Daryl
This was great! Thank you Daryl and Leland ❤
I’m a beginner guitarist (playing since late December) and Daryl Stuermer is one of my inspirations for picking up the guitar. An extremely talented individual and guitar genius! I’m glad to see him doing well
I have a Sweetbottom album from that era! Great music! Born in Milwaukee myself and raised thru college. I played in church since 18. Moved to Texas in 1980 and been here ever since, continuing playing in church groups. Switched from guitar to bass about 20 years ago.
What a great guitarist and such a nice guy. So awesome having you 4 all together again! 🔥🔥💯💯
How cool to hear his story - directly from Daryl. Thanks!
Maravillosa entrevista de dos grandes artistas
Daryls a monster…so great to get to know more about him thru this killin interview. Thnx lee! His playing on enigmatic oceans sparring with holdsworth and ponty trading solos is a fusion highpoint.
Great stories! That all I got.
Actually it's good to film the entire show. I can watch now the Berlin 1990 Phil Collins show. I was only a kid back then. These are precious memories and also valued moments in music. All these need to go public.
Wow! This was such a really fantastic surprise. I loved listening to both legendary musicians reminiscing. Thank you so much for sharing! ❤❤❤
Sweet Memories ❤
Yay! You got to hang with your friend, so happy❣️ Plus we get to learn even more cool stuff. 😎😻 Thanks 🙏🏼👍🏼
Hey Daryl!!! 😂🥰🎸🎶🎤😎👏👏👏👏
This was an awesome interview with another music legend. Cheers, Leland! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️
Sir Lee,
Good evening to you and Daryl with a huge thank you.
This is just amazing. Stay safe and safe travels!
Thank you 2
I watch (over & over) a live version (Wembley in 92, maybe) of Driving The Last Spike, amazed by Daryl's bass work. He is a beast! Nothing like watching Daryl & Chester holding it down. ❤
Awesome stories - thanks Lee.
Great interview and stories, Leeland and Daryl 🤩 - I didn’t realize Daryl went back as far as “Follow You, Follow Me” with Genesis … but I did know he was the guy that layed down the searing guitars on “In the Air Tonight” 😎👍🎸!
I believe that’s also Daryl doing the Marshall-stack meltdown stuff on “There’s Something Going On” for Frida Lyngstad (Phil Collins wrote, I think, in addition to playing his apocalyptic drums on it) 😁❤️.
I've been going through my resurrected (from garage storage) vinyl albums recently, and I have that album and can confirm. Also, I recently listened to Joan Armatrading's "The Key" album (1983) and pleasantly discovered Daryl is on that as well.
I grew up in Milwaukee. I remember Duane and Daryl in Sweetbottom. I had never heard Daryl's story...very cool!
Thanks Lee and Daryl. Really enjoyed your chat. Cheers.
Really loved this! Thanks for taking us inside “the hang” with Daryl.
You two guys are cool dudes, awesome players and clearly kind/classy rock stars. Your music has meant so much to me both solo/other groups and with Phil and Genesis (Daryl). ❤
I love Nylon String Sampler. Reminds me of Lee’s playing.
Thanks so much!!!!👌🏻
Thank you.❤❤🙏
It's fun listening to a couple of legends hang out. You didn't see me, but I was the one sitting on the floor to your right. Thanks, Lee and Daryl!
Awesome interview..he has always been one of my favorite guitarists...Great and informative hang. Thank you and Daryl. Have fun. 🖕
I’m a beginner guitarist who is heavily influenced by Daryl and I’m so happy he’s doing well. Such an extremely talented individual and a guitar genius! 🤘🎸
I agree with Daryl. I don't even film at shows just to try to stay present. I do enough time traveling as it is. However, I do appreciate you guys reflecting on the past here. My dad turned me onto Genesis and Phil (and James etc..) as a child. He passed a month ago from cancer. We actually talked about that before he passed. I developed a profound fondness of the music you guys have played over the years. It inspired me to become a musician myself. Thanks for this. Im always tuning in Leland. Please keep it up. I Appreciate it.
My heart is with you.
