  • Not every driver is comfortable reversing a HC vehicle around a blind corner. For some, the last time they did it was for their driving test. For others, they never get the opportunity to practice, only doing it several times over the course of many years.
If this is you, don't worry, there are ways to improve your blind side reversing quickly, and that is with the use of visual aids.
This video shows our senior trainer Big Al giving a simple explanation of the visual aids to look for while reversing.
Big Al has been in the transport industry for over 55 years, he might talk a bit of shit, but he knows a lot of shit too.

I have come across a few cocky young drivers tell me that you don't ever reverse on your blind side. When I ask them why the tend to get smart and throw out insults like I'm just an office boy and what would I know. My normal response is the let them know that "They" don't because no one has taught them. Here let me show you I say to them🥱. I started practising with toy trucks as a kid just as shown here, I also learnt by quietly observing my old man and others. It may seem a bit childish to play with a toy truck but it does have value. Most importantly, if your unsure get out and look. Its better to get out and let the heroes think you can't reverse than to prove it by hitting something.

please upload another video of a reverse off of your good side using visual aids and markers. That would be well worth the watching!! Good vids btw. Learnt a lot and as I say, would love to see a description of a good side reverse. I use a curve or arc on the deck that looks as if it would be the path the wheels would take if I was pulling the trailer out of the bay.
    How do you teach it?
Take care lads and keep up the good work!!

Yeah but by the time the trailer is 90deg and you start swinging the prime mover to back in straight, the trailer over rotates and goes to about 100deg, won't be straight in the dock and you have to pull forward.
Even if the trailer is at say 80-85 degrees before you swing it is hit and miss - on either your blind side or your good side whether it'll be straight. To get it straight requires constant and variable steering input because sometimes the trailer pivots about the centre axle and sometimes it pivots about midway between the two rear most axles depending upon weight. I cart steel and I find following standardized reference points helpful, but no two reverses are ever the same in my world.
