I told you during the intro that I was into a bad mood and I could cry really a lot. And I knew that this episode would be difficult, like I had no hope before about the situation ending well. But for things to turn like that, for Snake to kill Gardar, but in fact no, not fully, so for Arnheid to lie to him, to offer him that peaceful death, thinking they were truly escaping, but in fact he's seeing himself as a slave all along the road, even if he tries to remember the good moment, and he's dying thinking how much he regrets the decision that he took, feeling guilty… Near to Arnheid who was just so brave to do all of that for him. Joining in the other life his son, surely dead also, who was waiting for him. I CRIED ALL OF THE TEARS I COULD, OKAY ????
And to imagine that some fans don't like that narrative arc because they came here for fights and that's just a "stupid"' story of secondary characters "we don't care about"... FU** YOU ALL. You didn't understand this anime, the messages, how deep it is. How symbolic each little scene was here. For Thorfinn being confronted by Snake's speech about one life being more important than others ? For Arnheid who asked her husband to spare the guy who just killed him, who went with him and told him these lies to bring him peace while she knew all along how it would end for him, and for her. Everything was meaningful, everything was beautiful, everything was deep and emotional. And if you don't understand that, you don't deserve this anime.

One of my favourite episode of the season. In only 5 episodes, Gardar has introduced himself as a pivotal character where everyone grew from, and in so few episodes, established an emotional connection with him. Gardar is, in many ways, the same as Thorfinn, he is a victim of War, and the bloodthirsty wake it leaves in it's path.
Absolutely soul wrenching episode that makes this show so special given it's setting; it's wholesale rejection of violence and dream for peace in a world that wishes for neither. All of this energized by a soundtrack that can make any scene pull at the strings of the heart.

Hjalti died. Arnheid just lied. He would’ve been 6 had he lived… so Gardar sees him as a child

i think the simple fact that hjalti is there in the afterlife waiting by himself and we see him older than when his parents last saw him...is pretty much a confirmation that he is dead.
