David Fincher is my idol. Not just as a creative but as a man. Strength of character. Empowered knowledge. Craft learned, exacted and mastered. He speaks with the authority and clarity of a technical savant. His ego is only informed by the quality of his artistic output, And his experience navigating the business landscape of film making and the practical application of personal vision in a chosen medium.
***** Just watched the full version. It's amazing!! You should put the full versions on RUclips. I know people like to talk about the ADD/Twitter generation, but people will sit down for hours to watch or listen to someone they consider a visionary.
8? fuck me, that makes me feel bad. I had no clue about anything when I was 8. Fincher will go down as one of the all time greats, and if people think he is arrogant, he definitely has the right to be, hasn't got a bad film to his name
"So you come in, you throw your coat on the couch...when you've done that fifteen times, it starts to look like you live there" - David Fincher I remember Daniel Craig saying the hardest parts of working with Fincher were getting the little things right, like "putting a cup on a desk" and "turning a door knob just right."
+Mutualist Probably the people that worked with him in A3 were delighted of having worked with him in such a mess of production. At least he made a decent movie out of it.
I love this interview, but my one gripe is the editing. The jerky cuts had me nauseous, I don't know why who ever edited this was scared of lingering too long on a shot. I don't need the back of someone's head as they are speaking, or to see someone repeatedly nod as Fincher answers a questions.
Alien 3 was fucking amazing, even with all the studio interference. Imagine what it would have been like with a fully finished script and full control#.
camera A..b,c,d.. A! b,c,a,d,c,a,b,a,b,a,c,a,d,c, that guys phone... chill out, can't focus on the subject or anything he is saying. Listening to a master of the screen, produced by a beginner.
Alien 3 is amazing. It's bleak themes of loss and despair are a perfect wrap up for the tragedy that is Ripley's arc. Did you honestly want a happy Hollywood cookie cutter ending to such a brilliantly unique and dark tale? It's a brilliant drama full of great actors and sumptuous cinematography, which may have been the best of the lot if Fincher was actually allowed full control. As it is, it's a wonderful film, and that's astounding given it's circumstances.
Says a nobody on RUclips who has probably never made a film in his life to a director who is renowned by millions as one of the best. Can you maybe see the issue here? Of course, please feel free to post links to your film work to see if you can successfully communicate "thoughts and ideas".
Can I say this. David Fincher, maybe a little bit overrated? Like, seven and the social network are terrific films, but Zodiac is a mess and Fight Club is super overrated. I liked girl with the dragon tattoo. But, is he the best director of our time? No way

Not enough. He rarely gives interviews. He's such a fascinating person. I want more.

+TheAmazingElexcia he's interesting to work with as well.
Uhh, your link to the supposed full version leads to a page with this embedded 12-minute RUclips version.
BAFTA Guru The "full" video on your site is the same length as this one, and seems to be an embedding of this youtube video. will you update please?
Still looking for the full version. Please comply.
There aren't enough interviews with Fincher!!
Yeah, i'd say he's a pretty private guy, most directors are tbh, but it's always gold, hearing him talk.
"Victimized by other people's laziness..."-well said.
loved his movies my whole life. really appreciate his director's commentaries.
What he says on Gone Girl is so true. I am a phony every time I am socializing. Great artist who made great movies.
the editor of this must have been ridiculously bored
8? fuck me, that makes me feel bad. I had no clue about anything when I was 8.

I was thinking so about your 1st line. I didn't think to anything like my future at 8.
P.S.: I was a big fan of Man United, also.
Would love to see Documentary based on his Career
"So you come in, you throw your coat on the couch...when you've done that fifteen times, it starts to look like you live there" - David Fincher

+Samuel Vasquez Thats such a good way of thinking, making someone repeat something so many times it becomes natural on set.
Love the interview - hate the camera switching angles ALL THE TIME arg
I would love an unedited version.
you can easily find it on the A life in the picture website when you google for few seconds, its worth it!
cannot find anything longer than this; could you post a link to the long version, as I tried it quite a few times! would be great..

David Fincher is a genius
I can listen to this man talk for hours. He is a very unique person, can't see him ever doing a bad film in the future.
Insightful
One of my favorite directors coming the 90s!
Ironic how the British Academy of Film and Television Arts couldn't find a half-decent editor. This is painful and aggravating to watch.
Every link that says "full 25 min interview" takes me to this 12 minute video. Is this the only version?
So many (unnecessary?) edits
is the full interview anywhere?? There appears to only be a select few full interviews available.
Who dislikes this? Four people who worked on Alien3?
+Mutualist Probably the people that worked with him in A3 were delighted of having worked with him in such a mess of production. At least he made a decent movie out of it.
Me. All the cutting and chopping chunks out is annoying as fuck
Underrated director
Underrated? He's one of the most celebrated and well known people in his craft.
I love this interview, but my one gripe is the editing. The jerky cuts had me nauseous, I don't know why who ever edited this was scared of lingering too long on a shot. I don't need the back of someone's head as they are speaking, or to see someone repeatedly nod as Fincher answers a questions.
Where's the full video?
where is the full interview? It's not even on your official website.
Alien 3 was fucking amazing, even with all the studio interference. Imagine what it would have been like with a fully finished script and full control#.
Anyone have a link to the full length interview?
your link doesn't work... the one in the video...
Can somebody help me out and tell what movie from is the shot leading up a staircase with a mask on the wall?
Now that I though about it it's probably not a movie, but an intro. Can somebody give me info on it?
you are amazing!!!
his Alien 3 is amazing and poeple who slate it... hasn't a clue what a masterpiece is.. his 1st feature film to.
Agreed.
GREAT!
He was also a big part of Tarsem Singh's 'The Fall' - along with Spike Jonze - which is one of the most beautiful films ever made.
8:10" He does me better than me"

jaaaaarrrrrring angles.
He's a genius.
The editing here is very distracting. Too many angles to play with that aren't really necessary. Good insight into Fincher's craft though!
why tf is it edited like this
I take back everything I said about David Fincher on Alien3, it wasn't his fault.

Fight Club > Gone Girl > Seven > Zodiac
Disagree. Zodiac is Fincher's best work (Haven't seen Gone Girl & A girl with... yet).
Donvitto Bloom
I've only seen Zodiac once so I might have to watch it again my man
Fight Club > Se7en > Gone Girl > The Social Network for me
Fight Club > The Social Network > Se7en > Gone Girl
Fight Club=Se7en=Gone Girl=The Social Network. But, Fight Club is my favorite.
Reboot the Resident Evil movies Dave
Ok
more aggressive than Tarantino!
SPOILERS. I love Fincher's work but have never seen Se7en
+PixMix Do yourself a favor and watch Se7en.
Yeah best Fincher film, amazing man.
I hope you watched it since then. Probably one of his best.
Gamer Rex Meh, that's Fight Club IMHO.
B
Fincher's an old man?
He was 29 in 1992 so I'm not sure why that surprises you?
Cê não sabe de nada, arrume um emprego de verdade
He is such a little creepy weird-looking genious little guy
*Genius. Maybe learn to spell if you are going to insult someone by calling them "creepy".
He's sound. As a horror,,,, actor
Sorry David, there is more to films than just "imparting feeling". Their is also, at a minimum, the transmission of thoughts and ideas.

Please stop saying retarded things on the internet from now on.
He's a genius
