I think David Fincher has an extremely original and different artistic approach in working. I think it's absolute professional way of working and also concentrating on the quality of the working method with actors... good on you David....! ;-)
"I think Forrest would have a hard time playing someone evil"...CUT TO Forrest Whitaker winning an oscar for playing an evil character in Last King of Scotland
When you mentioned about not making enough movies when compared with 'Hitchcock' & 'Spielberg'. If you have a large enough budget and a larger team with an extra Unit working in parallel where you can have another director who can think the same way like this director and take instructions in working with another Unit in parallel. Then you maybe able to complete a lot more movies. I guess a lot of time it boils down to amount of funding and cash availability for the films.
I once had an idea for a movie that was like a dark, gritty, brutal, atmospheric, and intensely suspenseful Crime-Drama/Murder-Mystery thriller that I could see Fincher directing! The plot centered around two female protagonists, one being a hard-edged and unorthodox rogue narcotics officer going outside her assigned case to infiltrate a drug kingpin's organization in order to find a missing girl and avenge her late son's murder. The other is a straight-laced and brilliant FBI agent assigned to assemble and lead an elite team of special agents to track down a cunning yet highly-intelligent serial killer. The two young women's lives eventually collide and they both discover that their investigations strangely but coherently connect together. They then join forces to solve a twisted puzzle of crime and mayhem which leads them to uncover some shocking truths such as a corrupt mayor with ties to the Greek mafia and the possibility that an agent of the bureau may be associated with the serial killer.
I don't think Fincher was prophesizing Stewart's abilities of taking the world cinema by storm by having the same boring look on her face and starring in romantic vampire romance films. Seems like he had a "thespian" in mind, not unlike Jodie Foster lets say.

lots of good stuff to consider for film directors at any stage of their career.
LOVE this Guys
On the contrary Mr. Fincher, you're either making a slice of life OR a slice of cake.
Fincher can come off a bit smug, but it comes with the territory.
Thank you ...
Awesome sharing

So, just like everything else in life, allow TWICE the time you think you will need, because shit always takes longer and the unexpected happens.
Fincher is the best.
Great stuff...but Forest couldn't play evil? Hahaha. The only part of the commentary where I think he wrongly predicted Idi Amin.
Real nigga right here
Yeah he got Forrest wrong. Most good actors and actresses have a lot more range and versatility than 99% of people believe.

@merocket- I AM pretentious. Mmkay, thanks.
Ah, but imagine K Stew in a new Fincher film. Fincher could work it like he did with Justin Timberlake.
Coloradan FTW
I love Fincher, one of my personal favs :)
