    • @camiloabate
      @camiloabate 3 года назад

      Hey Jaime! how is it going? I'm considering buying the GRP because i sweat A LOT during my practices, but I'm not fully convinced because the durability factor, how is it going for you? is the mat doing well or is it broken and on fire already? haha Cheers and thanks for the video!

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  3 года назад +1

      @@camiloabate Hey Camilo! And hahaha… my GRP Lite is STILL going… the same purple mat in this video is the mat I leave at the yoga studio and teach on - and because I only teach once a week, and sometimes take other teachers’ classes there, it’s not a mat that gets abused daily. I still use a mat towel on top of it and even then - the mat gets drenched through the towel with sweat when I practice. I don’t get the chance to dry it out completely before rolling it up and to be honest, that grosses me out a bit 😅 sooooo. It’s still holding up, but from a hygiene factor because I can’t hose it down, it’s starting to get a bit icky. 😬

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  3 года назад

      @@camiloabate I mean. It’s totally personal, I’m probably more of a germaphobe than the average person, but my preference is still the PROlite from a hygiene point of view 🤷🏻‍♀️ so if you’re less hypochondriac than me you might be ok with it?

    I am a Manduka Pro black mat believer as well. But recently I have to find a more traveling friendly mat so I bought the GRP Adapt. You were right, for the first few practices it is like practicing on a Wellington rubber boot. Squeaks loudly and it was quiet distracting. I practice Ashtanga so pivoting cant really be avoided. But after about a few practices, the squeaking starts to lessen and now after a few weeks using it, it hardly ever squeaks anymore and I love the feel of the mat. More spongy than the Pro but it really sticks to the floor, you really don't need any towels and considerably very easy to clean if compared to other open cell mats. It has the width of a Manduka Pro (why I don't do Pro Lite because it feels too narrow) but the weight of a Lite! Fell in love with it! Definitely an underrated mat that basically needs a different kind of break in period.

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  2 года назад +2

      Ah! That’s really great to know that the squeaking stops over time. I gave up after a couple uses but still have the mat so perhaps more than a year later I should pull this mat out and try again. Appreciate your perspective and thanks for the tip! 🙌

    Thanks for this video. I bought the adapt as my first Manduka Mat. This has to be one of the best yoga mats I purchased. I didn’t hear any squeaky noise. I’ve been using Decathlon and Amazon mats and decided to upgrade. I love the grip in the adapt however I don’t recommend this mat if you own pets because their hair sticks to the mat and have to clean the mat after every practice.

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  Год назад +2

      Great that you love it. And oh yes - with the stickiness of this mat I can totally see how pet hair would stick to it. Appreciate you sharing your experience, and glad to hear a different point of view and that yours doesn’t squeak! 👍

    Loving your yoga mat tutorials as I'm looking for a new mat and do enjoy a thickness that still allows me to stand and balance still. I find my current one feels a little slippery at times also when I use a ball on my mat it seems to get squeaky too wasn't expecting that, it's not a Manduka mat. I had a pro ma for about 10 years and loved it. They definitely don't stay grippy in hot yoga as long as the absorbent kind but like you said the hygienic factor is key. Pair the pro mat with a mat towel and thats the winning solution. Unfortunately I mis placed my pro mat one day after class and now its gone. Hopefully it found a good home. Was about to buy a grp mat as a replacement and to try something new but I am glad I found your video because now I realize that I'll be happier with another pro mat.

    I loved Manduka Pro mats for years. Bought my first one 20 years ago (it 'died' only b/c of cat attacks), my second one about 10 years ago. Those I was able to 'break in' and the one from 10 years ago is still my favorite mat. Great "stickiness" except when wet. I bought a few other pro mats in the last 4 years and absolutely could not "break" them in even after multiple salt scrub downs/ leaving in sun etc. So I've sadly give up on the Manduka Pro mats. Just ordered the Adapt hoping I can get grip in both dry and wet sessions but concerned about that squeaky thing but dang just wish Manduka would resolve the film on the Pro mats! Thanks for such a great review

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  3 года назад +2

      Hey Yael! Thanks for sharing your long-term experiences with the Manduka Pro mats. Great to know about the “film issue” in recent years. I guess it might also be different depending where in the world they’re manufactured. I recently taught a class for Manduka and test-drove the latest Manduka x Van Gogh Museum mat they collaborated on. It’s a Pro series mat with a print of one of Van Gogh’s paintings on the edges - it was a brand new mat without any salting/ breaking in and it was actually really grippy (I was pleasantly surprised). Sooooo… 🤷🏻‍♀️ who knows! That’s the thing with mats - it’s so highly individual and at the end of the day you just need to practice on the one you’re thinking of and see how you like it.
      Who knows - maybe your Adapt experience might be completely different to mine and you’ll love it. Would love to hear your thoughts on your new mat - how exciting! 🙌

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  3 года назад +2

      Hey Lorena! Thanks for watching! If slipping due to sweat is an issue, you might want to consider getting a yoga mat towel first, instead of changing mats (sorry to add another option 😂)
      While I love, use and recommend the PROlite, it’s a closed cell mat with zero absorbency which means your sweat stays as a layer on the mat. I get super sweaty too, so halfway through a vinyasa/ hot flow practice, I’ll lay a mat towel over it (usually the wetter a mat towel gets, the grippier it is too). Since it’s also cheaper than buying a new Manduka mat, you could start with that first as a test?
      I made a video about my mat towel recco you can watch here: ruclips.net/video/KZ4xlLZQBnY/видео.html
      Hope this helps! ❤️

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  3 года назад +2

      PS. Especially if you’re practising 5-6x a week, I’m not sure you’ll enjoy the GRP - from a hygiene perspective. Since it absorbs sweat, you really need to let it dry out between sessions - and let’s be honest, leaving it unrolled after coming home from the studio everyday just adds one more thing to do (if it’s home practice then maybe that’s easier).
      I use my GRP as the mat I teach on at my hot yoga studio, so it’s fine without a towel over it, but if I practice on it, I find I still use a towel over it halfway through coz a soaked, drenched mat at the end of a sweaty one-hour practice that I can’t hose down really grosses me out. But that’s just me. Hahaha.

    Can you travel fold the lite when travelling? I like the grp light because it,s light, but germs… no? is the pro lite as grippy as the grp? Ok you’re my spirit animal - ocd and swiffers for the win! Lol

    • @jaimetan
      @jaimetan  2 года назад +2

      Hahahaha on the spirit animal (that’s why cats are the best!) and nope I wouldn’t fold any of the GRP series mats coz I’m not sure they’d bounce back to shape like the PRO series mats will. The feel of the PRO mats are still my fave, and I like the grip they’ve got. From a lot of the feedback I’ve got, I realise the feel of “grippiness” is very subjective. So the kind of grip I like may not be the kind of grip feel you like.
      Best is to find both mats in a store or studio to try them out first! Check out my other PRO mat reviews too, or you might like to consider the PRO travel (it’s 2.5mm and foldable): ruclips.net/video/ywRw-nIa7ys/видео.html

      But thank you! I understand a lot more about mats now than aI did before your videos ❤

      @@revolucionarme5202 ah hahaha! Yuuuuup. I know what you mean... so much choice, and OPTIONS PARALYSIS! I guess it’s a matter of priorities and what’s more important to you? If it were me, I’d go for grip coz it’s pointless having a long lasting mat with a grip I’m not happy with (coz then every time I step on my mat I’d be irritated - and for a very long time!) 😂 ...but if you’re an environmentalist and buying once is more important than grip, then that’s your choice!
      Would love to hear which one you end up with 😅 (I find it endlessly fascinating the many different opinions and the reasons why in the comments from all my reviews- so thanks for sharing!)

    Are these GRP mats new? I love my manduka pro lite. I am actually so curious about this.

      Hey Ash! The GRP hot and hot lite were out about a couple years ago, but the GRP Adapt is more recent - some time in the past few months. And the entire GRP series was made with the hot yogi in mind... because they absorb moisture, there's no need to use/ fuss with mat towels. I love the GRP lite, but my heart still belongs to the PRO/ PROlite mats! They've definitely stood the test of time!

      That’s right Mary! Manduka is one of the yoga mat brands that’s been around for a long time and stood the test of time. It can be confusing with the number of different mats they’ve got so hopefully this helps. :)

      G’day Sharon! Thanks for watching! And apologies if this confused you more! Since mat-grip is so personal, if you’re able to find a stockist it’s best to test it out in person to see if you like it or not. 👍
