Brazil here! For our country it makes a lot of sense, even if ASUS, MSI, Foxconn and Gigabyte have factories here producing mainboards. Due to some quirks and inconsistencies in the way Brazil's market operates, the ATX version of Colorful Battle B450 imported by AliExpress is actually less expensive than the similiar ones produced by Gigabyte, ASUS or MSI. And I'm talking about 50 dollars in the price range, it's not something irrelevant. The model you reviewed is a mATX and it's even less expensive here, sometimes costing less than 90 dollars from the equivalent ones!!! Granted there are some strange decisions by Colorful regarding the construction. While most boards use at least the Realtek ALC 887 sound chip, Colorful implemented the - very old - 662 chip. Good for some 2.1 or 4.1 sound systems, but nothing more. Anyway, thank you for your review, there are good things being produced in China nowdays and I think people need to lose some of the "China is only good for producing cheap or bad products" way of thinking. The support page from the company is actually nice.
Glad to see these HIKVISION m.2's are getting some attention, they're pretty good for the price. I actually bought a 240 GB of the cheaper version without RGB, the C2000. For 35€, not bad at all.
I absolutely love your reviews. You're completely right about keeping it fresh and unique and honestly I find every video very interesting and entertaining. Please don't stop anytime soon!
Colorful is legit brand unlike other chinese brand like huanan, and I believe it's largest chinese computer components brand. they even sell some of their product in here, south korea! But yeah, I was suprised that there is an OC option for CPU, because At least one of Colorful's B350 boards sold here doesn't have any.
Everyone else is doing the expensive boards. I skip most of them as its something I will unlikely buy. This cheaper stuff is great for budget builds and the type of stuff I would buy for projects or reusing my older components and giving it to family members. This board doesnt currently hit the value point but great to know its there and a possible future lower priced item.
Super interesting vid dude, anybody interested in tech should like it, colorful started as a cheaper gfx card manufacturer and the crypto boom has made them the tech giant in China in record time, so they're branching out to mobo's ssds etc. HIKvision started as CCTV systems manufacturer and obviously tired of buying boatloads of WD purples they started producing their own solid state storage solutions.
unlike huanan / huananzhi and plexhd, Colorful is actual brand and not a "title for no brand items". It maybe not famous in the west because apparently their market is Asia Pacific region.
Yes, their products are cheaper then other well-known brand. But still good. They also make vga and ssd. I would like to see a review of colorful vga in this channel. Btw their vga is nvidia series not amd.
Kudos my friend. This review is one of a kind, budget segment for budget builders from Chinese manufacturers always comes in handy. Review the B450m deluxe v14 from colorful next ;)

I'm definitely interested in the A320 board if it's a decent value proposition for Aussies... AM4 boards are still kinda expensive down here, even 300 series ones!
In europe they are dirt cheap now. And we have import tariffs on electronics from asia as well. A320 start at about 40 euros and b350/450 start around 55. Don't understand why it has to be so expensive over there. You guys even are closer to the factories. Really feel for you guys!

Actully in Asia, colourful is a better value cheap board for most people because they only cost around 50 usd for locals and brands like asus and gigabyte will cost around 60 to 70. So colourful are actually cheaper choice for people who wants to build a budget pc
I like learning about these chinese mobos...very interesting. Not so interested in the AMD side of it though, but Ill watch as long as you make the vids.
In the USA Amazon now has this board for $80, same model but it's listed under the brand name Segotep (first time I ever heard of it). But I started PC Gaming way back in 1998, and I've seen both Colorful and Powercolor in the USA computer hardware market since 2004/2005.
Interesting Review and need more on this motherboard, because in my country, with 80 USD you only get crappy A320 motherboards... So I'm very interested on more content on this one
Triple core on a biostar board has been my most reliable machine to date. Close to a decade of ownership. Far exceeding my $300 msi motherboard/s. Which all needed replacing either right away or a few years down the line via RMA.
MicroATX made a lot more sense when you got all 4 PCI[e] ports and video cards fit in a single slot. Now you get at most two usable ports and one of them tends to be crammed in with SATA and USB connectors and whatnot. This is probably why MicroATX is dying and everyone is moving to MiniITX, since it's even more compact and you barely lose anything. Of course, MiniITX cases have slowly increased in size where they're basically MicroATX sized now, just without the slots.
Hey bro, I don't know if you have the parts, but if there is and if you have time, make a "big" comparison with that AM4 B450 with your Ryzen 1600/1700 and 16GB DDR4 ram, against a cheapest X79 "generic" motherboard with a E5 2689 Xeon CPU and "generic brand" 16GB ECC DDR3 1866 (all parts from AliExpress prices), recently I've bought these same Xeon and the cheapest "generic" X79 motherboard, but my 32GB ECC DDR3 1866 ram Kit was got in the "limbo" of Brazilian customs clearance, so I will never know when I'll get that PC ready for use, anyways, love your content Phil, for sure are the best from RUclips, greetings from Brazil.
I shy away from comparisons, as they cost too much time. But I tend to use the same tests in all the videos, so easy to compare. I prefer giving more subjective advice these days, plenty of other channels are really good at doing charts and have the time to do this properly.
RUclips is in dire need of reviews of weird unknows brands. In particular, I'd like to know about the MLLSE DDR4 that's sold on Aliexpress. There's no info about it anywhere!
Just rewatched this video again, and for some markets, it's the availability and cost of b450 motherboards that could be of issue to those building on a budget. I find that this board could work for those trying to build an starting entry level gaming build. Agree with the use of a downdraft air cooler tho and not a front to back configuration on the cpu cooler. When I am ready to go Ryzen 3600 or 3700, I might consider this board. Right now in February 2021 the b450 I am eyeing is $50 CAD more than this Colorful b450 battle ax. Maybe in a future bios update Colorful could put in the XMP/DOCP for the Ram.
That's the one I bought! By the way thanks for answering me in the video about Ryzen. I really love you... Your videos dude, wtf lol xD jk jk. But, I can't make the most of my current setup because I'm only using a 4GB 2400mhz ram module. In September I will get two 8GB modules at 3200mhz. The situation is not very good here in Brazil when the subject is about Dollar. (Is 3,99 the actual Dollar price now)
At 4:05 when you tap two times on board with your finger it bends very easily, don't looks very durable. As it it will be shipped from China it is very susceptible to damage as there is no foam in box to absorb shock.
Hopefully the LED's on the m.2 SSD don't heat it up too much. As demonstrated by Kingston's HyperX Fury RGB SSD's (if they haven't found a way to solve the temperature issues yet), LED's can heat it up to the point of not even being able to post at boot-up.
Somehow besides the lack of 4 dimm slots, this board is somewhat better than my Asus Prime B350M-A. It wasn't very expensive (only 63 bucks refurbished) but I had to pay for more SATA cables anyways so I guess the cheapest isn't the best value.
I can't think of a reason to not see the A320 board. I would also like to see your take on the Ryzen APUs under Linux - there are problems with systems freezing, and it doesn't look like kernel updates are fixing the problem. I think it's related to graphics drivers.
keep doing these videos but preferably the more extreme range of Chinese boards with lots of ports and features. Something that is much more tempting to buy
Retro XP motherboards are kind of getting rare, but I have a particular interest in motherboards with AGP sockets, especially newer ones like that Asrock you reviewed a while back. But Jan 2020 Windows 7 goes desupported. What is a good Asrock or Asus (future proof) motherboard to stock up on to best support Windows 7 x64? or at least in your opinion what will last the longest.. I have heard you mention the Caps and VRM cooling options in the past.. are there some that are better than others? I guess Sandy bridge or Ivey will be best for Windows 7 but your opinion would be nice to hear. PCI express slots also seem to have come into their own and displaced PCI 2.0 slots during Windows 7 era.. maybe do a video on a "retrospective" regarding the long long road XP and Windows 7 has brought us through technology? I recall when XP launched it didn't have USB 2.0 support, that was added on later for example. GPT disk sizes didn't exist and NTFS was limited to 137 GB when XP launched. Windows 7 barely had UEFI support for 64 bit.. and confused the heck out of me for a long long time.. I only upgraded my MBR x64 system to UEFI with a UEFI boot stick a couple months ago (that debacle led to me being stuck on using 2 TB system volumes for years and years.. "finally" I can use the full capacity of a 4 TB system volume for booting. You do a good job quickly surveying and explaining things.. a good Retro party video celebrating the "parting of the ways" for desupported.. and "welcome to the after life" video for Windows XP, Vista, 7 would be really cool.
Interesting -- I'd never heard of this brand, but it looks like a solid option for a basic system. Quite good feature set with regard to ports and layout. Does that m.2 drive have an option to turn off the LEDs? that color strobing would drive me mad.
ok, now do huanan lmao. They only have a320 though, I see them on TaoBao for about 60SGD / 300++ Yuan. Thats really cheap, also considering theres no 2nd hand a320 in my country since everybody was going for B450. No need overclocking since using small form case temps will be an issue, which such cheap motherboard would work just fine
I like the looks of the SSD that you got, but for what they're asking for I can spend $10 more and get a 2TB from Intel..... It's a shame though I really wish they would lower the price to a more reasonable range ($120~130 for the 1TB)
Hi Phil! Great vid, explains it rlly well, but recently I am having some trouble plugging in the wifi card into the pcie 2, since the usb 3.0 blocks it, so is there a solution or do I have to get a new mobo?
Y'know, it's wierd ... I prefer this information being delivered in my mother-tongue (which the residual European accent does not conceal) ... somehow it just feels better coming from an Australian. Just keep feeding me the info PhilsComputerLab. Nom, nom, nom.
good video, I think it should be revisited for 2021, since the prices for core components have gone up. I recently received my orders for parts from AliExpress last week, built the system on the weekend Ryzen 5 1600 with Asus b350 Prime Plus, & Darkflash Talon CPU cooler. Purchased RAM locally (just in case there were any RAM issues) Gskill flare x 16GB 3200 MHz kit which was on the GSkill QVL for the Asus b350 Prime Plus...I was interested in a 32GB kit, but the prices had gone up in CAD and it wasn't listed on the QVL on Asus website or GSill site. This Colorful b450 battle ax could be an okay mobo for an entry build into gaming with Ryzen..sad part is in 2021 even the 2000 series Ryzen have gone up on AliExpress along with most GPUs. I intend on building a new linux pc later this year (need to save up) the Colorful Battle Ax might be an option..since it would be a non-gaming build. My other option I was leaning towards was a e5-2650 v2 build on an x79 Atermiter board with 32 gb of dd3 1866 ECC registered. Have to compare prices later this year and see which is more value for the money.
Do you know if there is this manual of this motherboard in PDF format? On their website there is no manual ... I don't have the Card, I want to buy it, but I would like to look at the manual first. Great video btw
Not sure if you still answer questions off old videos, but I am looking for information on bios updates for the cvn v450 boards. There are new updates for Ryzen 5xxx CPUs but I have not figured out how to use them.
Isn't it ironic that the colorful board is all black :O
Indeed. The Colorful is one of the least colorful motherboards out there.
Would you like it if it was red? :)
It's the color blind version.

Recommend?? How is the temperature?
Do you know if there is this manual of this motherboard in PDF format? On their website there is no manual ...
I don't have the Card, I want to buy it, but I would like to look at the manual first.
Great video btw
Yea I linked it in the description. It is compressed, so uncompressed it and there is a PDF.
@@philscomputerlab tks man
Not sure if you still answer questions off old videos, but I am looking for information on bios updates for the cvn v450 boards. There are new updates for Ryzen 5xxx CPUs but I have not figured out how to use them.
