The current carries me away deeper then intended. While keeping my head straight I don't see a big dusky grouper while landing in 45m, only to be mezmerized by a beautiful scene - a shoal of nice Dentex coming straight at me...
Spearo: Denis Salamon
Recorded in Malta, Summer 2021.

REMEMBER
Two greatest responsibilities of being a spearo are:
1. Dive safe
2. Spearfish sustainably
Freediving is the mother of spearfishing.
Without possessing the basic freediving knowledge and skills any underwater activity on a single breath of air can easily lead to tragic consequences. Therefore it's highly recommended to complete a dedicated freediving course with a qualified instructor.
Once you learn the essentials and master the basic feediving skills you will be able to enjoy this amazing sport in a safe and enjoyable way by simply respecting your own body and the rules and safety protocols of freediving.
As for spearfishing itself - if you are just starting out then you really want to do a spearfishing course and/or get some proper mentoring from an experienced spearfisher in order to kick-start and minimize the risks involved. Also, you want to be 18 years of age or older in order to handle a speargun. Make sure to check this with your local laws and regulations before indulging in spearfishing activities.

You are crazy! Big respect for the deep dives and long breath, I am done after 45seconds
Just go for a freediving course, and you'll go "crazy" too ;)
I been diving 40 YEARS.
I LOVED this short CLIP.
AWESOME.
Thanks! 🙂
That grouper looked like a nice big one ! Great dive and great shot !
Thanks Jon! Yes a lovely dusky just chilling and kinda bored that he had to move just because of me :)
I love experiencing the drop. I put more music in my videos but its just a preference, I love how peaceful I feel in deep drops, and since I work, today I've lived vicariously through you.
Whats your beeping intervals represent?
Time or depth?
Thanks 8-Inch-Shaka
8-Inch-Shaka. I use both depth alarms and time alarms. Problem is that they are not loud enough and sometimes I don't hear them. Then again if they were much louder not sure if it might disturb the fish?
great diving skills
😮😮😮😮😮
I Just CAME Home from 1 Week gozo spearfishing,IT was the best Week in my whole Life! I enjoy your Videos a Lot ! Today my friend from Gozo was Lucky with a Big blue Runner ,me only a couple Red Mallets and a smaller sargo,i am looking Forward to come to Gozo again with maybe a News gun from salpasub
Glad to see such enthusiasm and passion for spearfishing. I'm sure you'll have great results with your new gun from SalpaSub, because they now have some really great high quality top brands of various pieces of gear, not to mention their laser sharp inverts.
@@SPEARFISHERZ at the moment i used a OMER Hf90 wich was also fine...aslong i am in the reef...but i actualy liked the remote blue water far out also a lot....i amdefinetly looking to get a roller some day...but not sure..so many nice spearguns out there...it has alos suit my style, not only should look good .
respect
Thank u
I like that flashlight cinch you have. Did you make that or is it a product? I don’t go down with my flashlight anymore because i hate it hanging off my wrist.
Just a simple DIY, anything elastic that can hold it around your forearm will do.
good👍
Why you don’t use variable weight when dropping?
Good question. Well, I feel quite comfortable deep spearfishing in CWT in summer (with ~3kg weights), but yes when the water gets colder it's safer to go with VWT. In fact we are designing a VWT system that can work well for my small rib. If anyone has a good suggestion or example, most welcome to share.
Until now I tried VWT a couple of times - the oldschool way (boatman throws the weights attached to rope on my signal). And it's great for safety, for prolonged bottom time, for going a bit deeper. But it also has a few disadvantages - for me personally dropping down too fast irritates my equalization after a couple of dives, would be better to have more control on the speed of descent somehow. And also if the weights hit the bottom or just hang in there they scare the fish. Fish in Malta are super scarce and super wary.
And also there is something about that landing phase when I'm choosing a good spot, looking for and interacting with the fish. That's special, and makes a big difference, at least for me. I love that part of the dive.
@@SPEARFISHERZ thank you so much for the extended explanation in the reply, as for the fish i think most Mediterranean fish are easy to scar, in this case i think dropping with weight would be more helpful when targeting fish in caves and under rocks.
@@mohamedelmoussaoui5531 yes it's very useful to retrieve fish from under rocks, like for example for a second shot. But regular hunting fish in holes at great depths that's the most dangerous, because every now and then things can go wrong. Therefore I would avoid altogether shooting fish in holes. I did it, I still do it, but lately I try to get closer to the fish and shoot it when it's out in the open, and if it runs in the hole I often let it be, unless it's an easy one.
I think the lesson is that at certain depths to look for fish of a certain size, you must also use the right weapon! cmq complimneti for video and performance! 😅👏🏻
Thank you. Speaking of right weapons, did they fix that problem of losing power at greater depth due to the compression of air in compressed air guns? ;)
@@SPEARFISHERZ my comment was not necessarily in favor of air rifles. However, the decrease in power that occurs at depth in air rifles is not significant, I fish over 40 meters and I never had the feeling that the rifle had a performance that was not up to par. And the depth affects more in the elastic rifles that over certain depth lose power significantly.
My comment referred to the fact that with all the propulsion systems available, going fishing at certain depths confronting big fish with your speargun is definitely not recommended. I repeat it is not a comment in favor of air rifles, but even rollers or demos would be just fine, rifles that can allow you to use at least 7.5 rods
Was it constant weight?
Yes CWT. Still didn't design a good VWT system, would be much safer... I would say.
Epic depth. Shot is cringy.
Yes. Bad timing. But also with traditional setups I can confirm what some other deep spearos noticed as well: bands lose power at depth for some reason and give less performance on "Tarzan's children". Looking forward to a good invert.
