In 1998, shortly after showing his A/W 98 Joan collection, a young Lee McQueen sat down with Nick Knight's then first assistant, Sølve Sundsbø, to discuss the pair's collaborative relationship and their first project together, a series of images for the Florence Biennale in 1996. Footage from the interview was never released and remained in Knight's archive until now.

I miss him so much. Fashion feels quite flat without him. We only see this type of artist every hundred years. It's true. We were blessed with his artistry. He took relentless, fearless artistry and combined it with being a master tailor. The result is silencing to those looking upon his creations.

it has been 10 years now since we lost him one of the greatest men in fashion history a man who became famous and lived a life like no other person did
It’s so lovely to see him smile. I wish I had known him and while I loathe that the whole world has this tendency to feel interpersonally connected to artists, I can’t help but feel understood by his art. Thank you McQueen for inspiring me to pursue a career in fashion. You are an angel
He recreated his state of mind onto a garment for people who appreciate and understand his message … all his feelings and thoughts are resurrected in his collections .. sadly not many people get it .. x

I think he literally was the only designer I've ever seen to be pure in his work and actually creating art. The rest of fashion seems completely superficial and driven by money. They couldn't ever come close to what he was doing.

This was after his Joan collection in 1998, he wasn’t on the amount that he was later in his life before his death. But it wasn’t just drugs, drugs amplified it, it was mental illness, severe anxiety, stress beyond belief, people hanging around him leading him astray with how to cope with his emotions, the industry telling him that he couldn’t make the art he truly wanted to make, he was a tormented genius and actually wanted plato’s Atlantis not just to be his final show but he told his assistant that he wanted to actually k*ll himself on stage as an act of true artistic defiance. He was a troubled beautiful soul and I miss him dearly

A once in a generation artist and creative genius who was completely exploited by the fashion world. 14 collections per year… this is obscene and frankly a disgusting level of pressure to be under. And this is creative work of the absolute highest level that he is having to produce. It’s not as though he was making a bookshelf. So fucking sad he didn’t slow things down and try and prioritise his health and himself. I don’t think many people in his position could handle it.
He had a lot of water energy in his birthchart. Pisces sun and moon, with a Scorpio rising. It makes him very creative....but very dark. Water as your moon sign for men is a tough placement. The moon deals with emotions and water is already an emotional element.
There is no telling what it was like to be in his mind🤯. A lot of single or double water placement men commit suicide. For example Robin Williams(Cancer sun, Pisces moon), Kurt Cobain (Pisces sun, Cancer moon), Heath Ledger (Cancer moon), Anthony Bourdain (Cancer sun)....🤔.
Very similar to myself. I'm a Pisces Sun with a Scorpio moon and Pisces Rising. He is my favorite designer and a designer I can relate to in the sense of fashion.

I literally was thinking about this this morning. I’m a professional astrologer/medium/tarot reader and male water signs have SUCH difficulty. I was thinking of Kurt, Heath. I have a theory that female water signs tend to be emotional gangstas, bc we have the feminine to get in touch with our dark emotions. With male water signs, they often simply drown.

the clothes that a designer wears has nothing to do with the designs that they make. Fashion is a lot more than the clothes that somebody puts on everyday and it's sad to see that you don't know that, because that's exactly what makes people believe that the fashion world is only superficial.
