For many years I worked at a grocery store here in Texas and a co-worker (White Lady) would always get in trouble for not wearing plastic gloves while glazing donuts in the bakery department. She would often be seen by other workers very early in the morning licking the sweet glaze off her fingers then handling all the other breads. So much for your "clean culture".........

There used to be a really good hot dog and sausage guy who would be on E street in front of the Pine Cove every night until 3am. Just about 6 months before the mid 2000's food truck BOOM the city decided that "street food" was a nuisance and declined his permit. I don't know what happened to him but I know he was pissed and Sacramento lost out on a true gem that had been there for years. It's also why Sac was so late to the food truck game compared to other NorCal cities. It turns out, the big restaurants in sac at the time were all owned by a handful of people (like 3 at most) and they had lobbied to make food trucks illegal on the grid of downtown and midtown in order to reduce competition. All the politicians ate at those restauranteurs places and got discounts and free booze all the time so, of course, it was easy for the restaurateurs to call in a favor. ...and this is just another reason why my home town fails to live up to how good it could be. Sacramento constantly extinguishes unique culture in favor of macro economic money that doesn't materialize.
