- The final results after eliminating the secondary air supply on the 1984 Honda Goldwing is a tremendous success. The bike runs better and has a very noticeable boost in power
I pulled off my secondary air system, mostly because I was fixing a carb leak and had to pull the carb so I figured I would try it. Bike is running perfect without those extra hoses and its a HELLUVA lot easier to get that carb in and out. My 2 cents.
I made my own plugs. You Wing should NOT be backfiring and it could be a number of issues. Most likely the slow air valve on the bottom of the carburator. I do not make the plugs to sell, but I have people in my forum who have used simple over the counter hammer in freeze plugs for the same modification, and have had the same success. A great place for more info on topics like this and more is Classic Goldwings forum.
Thanks for the reply!
You can make your needles sit still and it all run very evenly
Thankfully My 85 Asp UK spec has the secondary air supply already eliminated by Honda.
I have a 1200. What is a flat spot? Why did you remove it? Isn't backgiring from the air/fuel mixture? What would the negative effects be of not having those lines connected? Thanks.
so for this mod u jus black off the four vac tubes to the manifold and block off the afterburn valve port and ur done
That is correct. Nothing else needed.
Would inserting a Soft Rubber Plug in the Hose connected to the stub on the Cyl. Head have the same remedial effect?
@@cerealtiller You would probably want to use high temp silicone plug. Just a guess.
Hi, I'm wondering since I don't have a machine shop. So are there over the counter plugs for getting rid of secondary A.I. With the introduction to the gas market of ethanol. My Baby has been backfiring like me after a visit to Taco Bell.Thank you for the update. My dealer has kids back in the shop, so they say every GW backfires.Dam Kids! One last thing do you make these plugs and if so how much? Thank you in advance for your time,WB
+BIODIESEL1962 Some good old freeze plugs over the counter from an auto parts store would also do the trick.

Thank you kindly for your time and reply. WB
Did the sec air sys prove to be needed after 100 mi or so or has it been running Well?
Zero issues. The bike had been running great!
I've heard that removing the SAS can smoke head gaskets rather quickly.
How has this held up?
It’s been a flawless upgrade in my opinion. I’ve had zero issues
@@btrapp37 I recently picked up a 84 that had been sitting for a few years. Went through the carbs and just cleaned them, got it running fairly well.
Developed a leak in the fuel connection tubes so bought a rebuild kit.
At that point found someone had jammed bolts in the SAS tubes to block the air.
Removed them all and reassembled, bike seems to NOT run well now.
Bogs, not a super crisp rev...and a baby backfire when coming down on idle.
I believe the Amazon rebuild kit I got had some not original spec jets in it.
Back to the drawing board I think. Lol
I might put the original jets back in and see if that helps....after a good soak and inspection of them of course.
Hey bud was wondering how she is performing if it's still running good, and what all did you do to block all the vacuum lines that lead out from the secondary air box
BEAR Williams bike is still running great! I machined some plugs that were the same shape as the ends. A couple 1 rings from the hardware and I was good to go.
Right on brother! Glad to hear gonna probably do this to mine as well, keep her on 2 wheels and ride safe
Did u disconnect the slow air cutoff valve
Completely disconnected and blocked off with a metal plate I made.
Any one in the the ohio Cincinnati area and knows about these 84 goldwings please reach out to me
Man where ya located at I got the same bike and can’t figure mine out
Do you have a do this idiot video?
I’m sorry I do not. You’ll need machines or a machinist to plug it all up.
