When Bahrain a country with about 1.5 million population with no football history, majority of the squad play domestically and never gone close to qualifying for a World Cup are seen as a big test for us you know we’ve absolutely failed in our pathways.
People bag out Rugby Australia but imo the FFA are the worse run major sports federation in the country

Bahrain almost qualified for the 2010 World Cup.
But yes I agree. The Australian FA are a Mickey Mouse laughing stock.

@ they lost to the powerhouse that is New Zealand.
When we joined AFC we were competing with Japan and South Korea for the top team in Asia, these days our level is closer to Indonesia and Bahrain

@@joshf-w9602 Yes but Bahrein did come close to qualifying for a World Cup. So your opening sentence is incorrect.
Australian football is corrupt. Too many small vested interests. Academies in Australia are basically cash cows where parents with more money than sense pay to get their kids placed over the kids with real talent and potential. And getting a league bogan to run the sport 10-15 years ago was never going to lead to anything good, he closed the main player development academy.

WTF is schwarzer on about. Australia hasnt beaten Japan since 2009. The record since is 4D 6L 8F 15A
Australia got a super lucky own goal in the last game, where there was no shots on target.
This is why Australia is falling further behind Japan every campaign since 2010. This arrogant, delusional attitude

    Go Aussies! 💛💚
Poppa needs to implement an attacking formation, play at least 2 strikers.
4-3-3 or 4-4-2 (and variations on those)

Australia just 1 win in the last 5 matches, this is must win for Socceroos at Bahrain to keep the safety zone hope alive

The mens squad is doomed. We cant score goals and struggle to defend. Imagine playing Germany or Spain we would loose 10-0

Didn't they lose to Bahrain a month or so back, no chance. Best result is a draw. We suck.

You must be joking, this is not a team of football players, they need 10 to 15 chances to score 1 goal

Australia has lacked a true ""clinical Edge"" since Tim Cahill retired.. Until we produce a new Clinical forward we are going to be dependent on defense and the occasional scrappy goal..

We need front 4 players playing in the big leagues now. Look at how phenomenal Chris wood is for New Zealand ?

Yes we were saying this about Cahill at the game vs Saudi. I also reckon we miss not having a Milligan/Jedinak level midfielder

@ yeah I’m not sure why any is surprised. You need your national players either playing at top flight leagues or at leagues that require peak physical condition. I watch some of these South American teams and they are animals.. the Australia DNA is workhorse. We should be making bulls. Exceptional athletes with basic fundamentals should be minimum with a sprinkle of a couple of key players throughout the squad…
