Being a Minecraft developer may be fun but imagine the stress of trying to make something that won't ruin the game but also add brand new unique features... must be pretty tough
I completely agree haha. I think a big part of what the developers seek to do is keep the sense of awe and wonder that we all got when we first got the game ya know
@@IronDragonGroup yeah, whilst trying to give all parts of the the diverse minecraft community with new content, then parity and doing the same code for both versions and how to make the same thing work on mobile, pc, and consoles, etc,
Lady Agnes tweeted a few days ago about how she was the one to design/ implement llamas, they were the first thing she worked on for the game & she got home from work one day and realized the only thing she did was work on the different color carpets on the llamas
Ngl it sounds like such an amazing job
I'm a solo game dev myself but I know some people that work in AAA... The devs don't get to decide on MOST features/gameplay, etc. (it depends on the company and the occasion)... #indiegamedevontop
@@graphicsrush that's why mojang is so great. The devs are the creative directors there, so there isn't a clash between the artist and the coders

9:27 Bane of Arthropods DOES actually inflict Slowness IV on arthropod mobs it hits in modern versions for a few seconds, with the time increasing with higher levels.
I was using a Bane sword at my spider farm and kept wondering where the potion particles were coming from lol, thanks for explaining
@@jj02mc27 yeah nobody uses bane of arthropods normally so they don't notice the effect. But your exact situation is also where I found out about it. "Where are these slowness particles coming from? doess bane inflict slowness?" and lo and behold I check the wiki and test it in creative and it does.
WHAAT?! I didnt know that at all! an enchant adding a potion effect is soo unique
But why would you want bane of arthropods spiders are already weak and dont have much health
We need more arthropods mobs ugh
Armageddon mode with a moont hat turns to red eye looking around sounds awesome. It would've definitely made the game feel more intense even for minecrafts less intimidating artstyle.
I think it'd be cool as a modifier option, alongside things like Superflat or Water World, but definitely not as a regular thing. If I'd seen Armageddon Mode as a kid just starting to play, I would've been scared into not playing. Now I don't think it'd scare me as much as annoy me, since I tend to play in creative mode to build
Some madlad would probably beat armageddon mode alone
Sounds like a normal day in Terraria
bro imagine playing minecraft in the end times, stuff happening every second. worse than RL craft. then you get stuck in the nether or it ends you spawning in a peaceful world. nothing can go wrong and its perfect
kinda reminds me of that one mod that had sth like a blood moon event, dangerous time to be alive. not 100% sure what it was though, maybe the betweenlands
9:30 I've said it once and I'll say it again: the solution to the age old Bane of Arthropods debate is to simply introduce more enemy arthropods. Suppose there was a giant scorpion boss or giant crustaceans in the ocean that _could_ be beaten normally, but would benefit greatly with the Bane enchantment. What if there were more difficult spider variants in different biomes? (Jumping Spiders, lava-spewing Nether Spiders, egg laying spiders that multiply into smaller ones when you kill them, etc.). There is not a single arthropod currently in the came that warrants the enchantment. While it isn't hard to kill skeletons or zombies, Smite makes sense because of the vast number of undead mobs you will encounter (including the Wither, which makes high level Smite swords a commodity).
TL;DR - More arthropods to make the enchantment worth it
There are quite a few mobs that are considered arthropods, but most of them have very little health. A few more with a ton of health would definitely be a welcome addition so long as they aren't annoying.
well they would get a lot of negativity from people with arachnophobia which is probably why they havent done this
we need the arthropod dimension
@@godslayer8464 Do arthropods have to be spiders?
another solution would be remove bane of arthropods...
we dont need more mobs with reskins, and i feel the spider to [other hostile mob] ratio is perfect rn
Lanterns were canceled but later came back. Let's not despair yet (depending on the feature, sorry Mob A, C and D). Frogs were also a biome loser by the way.
All of the Biomes were confirmed to be coming to the game, the vote just determined the loser.
Developers like kingbdogz said that the mob vote losers are still considered for future updates, however they’re not guaranteed like the biomes are, and this may not include the first vote (despite Mob D almost getting into Dungeons as more than a statue and officially being named the Wildfire).
@@TheCJBrine Realistically, I think that Mob A, C, and D are still on the cutting room floor, however, I don’t think they’ll go out of their way to add them, they might be added if they fit a niche or idea that the team has.
@@BigMastah79 i did remember hearing one dev saying that the concepts of the 2017 losers would be recycled.
For example, Mob A would drag you down. The concept was recycled into whirlpools.
And for Mob C's disenchanting powers, that became the grindstone.

6:25 Mojang has already denied that the Chinese poll was an actual mob vote and yet people keep saying that it was. The poll wasn't for which animal should be added to the game; it was to likely just to hype people for the upcoming announcement of the panda. It had already been decided that the panda would be in the game and Mojang was already working on implementing it.
Basically the Chinese vote was something along the lines of:
"A national treasure is getting added to the game! Which would you choose?"
Maybe it was a bit weird as PR goes, but there's no doubting the popularity of the panda. I'd guess it was a pretty clear way of saying that pandas were coming to the game without outright coming out and saying it.

This just reminded me of old unused/scrapped content that did eventually make it into the game such as crying obsidian. Initially crying obsidian was planned to be a way of respawning before beds. When it did eventually make its way into vanilla Minecraft it did that but for the Nether, a way to respawn without beds. Their’s also sponges which where in the creative menu since forever and finally where obtainable and given a use in survival via ocean monuments. Skeleton horses where also finally added to survival via Skeleton Traps. Stonecutters where initially only in Minecraft PE due to limitations before Microsoft made all portable versions of Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
This does make me wonder how and if they’ll implement things already findable in the game. The Zombie Horse is just as old as the Skeleton Horse and has not seen the light of day. The Giant could be implemented as some sort of mini boss, same with the Illusioner. Will the Nether Core Reactor finally be given the love it deserves again?
Itd be cool to bring back the Nether Reactor Core plus Glowing Obsidian with some sortve Nether boss
Were*
Long before Crying Obsidian was reimplemented, I was long hoping that Mojang would remember it and use it as a way to make a respawn system for the Nether. And that dream became real
Actually, I'm fairly certain that bane of arthropods DOES apply slowness to spiders on hit; it's just that if you have bane of arthropods your weapon is going to one shot all the mobs that are affected by it so it's a very obscure fact.
can’t believe notch was hatsune miku this entire time
Someone should make a modpack with all of this.
I don't think there's a pack but there are several mods that can add most of this stuff.
Rediscovered mod adds many of these
I have a theory that VILLAGERS are indeed the smartest mob, do u see any other mobs creating items from nothin? Not even the player can do such witchcraft!
Piglins can also create multiple items from nothing. Actually, both villagers and piglins create new items after you give them emeralds and gold respectively, but they both clearly violate the law of conservation of mass, because no matter how much emeralds or gold you give them, they never run out. Villagers, however, do temporarily run out of stock, but as soon as they work on their workstation the next day, they suddenly have new items with no indication as to how they got these items. Retro would probably say that it’s just gameplay mechanics, but that’s boring, so I’ll say that the items are spontaneously entered into their inventories, either from the mysterious void, or from beings like the two that talk to the player in the end. Whether the villagers and piglins are aware of this is unknown.
@@drsharkboy6568 or...piglins do have inventories but there's is just much larger, sounds like a game theory
I also believe that villagers are the smartest mob, but with a different reason than yours. Villagers have a very complicated AI, that's why
@@KabalFromMK9 in beta 1.9 when villagers were first added they had the ai of a pig
From a lore view, villagers sell you the items they produced by crafting, mining, farming etc. The reason we don't see them do these activities (except farming, which they actually do) is just for programming reasons, as it would be difficult to program them to mine or build anything (and it would also change the players world too much if they just randomly mined or placed blocks somewhere).
I always wonder what we have never seen, and what has not left the Mojang drawing boards, we'll probably never know but it's something to think about...
I still remember my child self being really hyped to the red dragon. I heard playground rumors that you would've to hatch the dragon egg in the overworld or the nether to make it tame, so if you didn't grab the dragon egg you would be in bad luck, and you would be able to fly around in it.
Sadly I waited and waited and the red dragon never came.
maybe if you keep on waiting.. one day.. one day
"And when the world needed him most... he vanished."
Making the Farlands an official biome is a really interesting idea... It kinda makes me wish they took that approach a bit more throughout development. Rather than just making more realistic-looking biomes, what if they leaned more into the absurd types of things the world used to generate? What if we had whole floating island biomes with rare ores inside, giant monoliths with large flat walls that jut high into the sky, or even biomes that are just giant holes in the ground similar to chunk errors? What if, in the middle of the ocean, there was just a random biome where there's no water and there's just a steep drop all the way down to the ocean floor? Maybe you could have a really bizarre biome that's completely inverted with trees growing downward?
When Minecraft world generation bugs out, it's such a fascinating thing to see. I can't help but wonder how interesting it would be if, rather than correcting these bugs, they played with them and made them a strange, almost alien part of the game's world? I think it would be really cool to make these an intentional part of the world and it would really capture your imagination. Why is everything so weird in this one area? Did something happen here? Did a monster destroy this? Some sort of natural calamity? Was this structure built by aliens or something?
unrelated but 6ish years ago I had this friend who was imitating the early minecraft steve walking animation (with the flailing arms) (we were in 6th grade) and he fell into a fire pit and burnt his hand. still think of that on a weekly basis
Retro, do you want to look into a Minecraft something at the very bottom of the iceberg? Look no further than Minecraft China Edition. I would love to see you break down the strange snippets of images and knowledge there is about this version of Minecraft, the mobs, the bosses, the dimension we know very little about despite the fact that it is more popular than Java Edition itself.
It really blows my mind, it almost feels fake.

5:06 Let's remember that magma blocks can randomly generate underwater in the oceans now, and they're able to create a downward stream that suck boats. So, either the barnacle would have been redundant once magma blocks got changed, or that mechanic was recycled for the magma blocks once the barnacle was scrapped.
I think the mechanic was recycled, likewise Mob C turned into the grindstone
@@virivren **sad Mob D noises* (they didn't get a recycled feature)
A couple snapshots for release 1.8 revamped the minecart system, where it can travel 2.5x faster than the current maximum speed, but they reverted it before the 1.8 release.
I was frustrated when they reverted it. Using minecarts as a transportation is still a joke to this day!
If I remember correctly, they reverted it because it broke the physics engine *frequently*. It ended up making minecarts even more useless.
I really do hope they revisit it someday, though. I agree that it actually made minecarts useful.
I wonder how Minecraft is doing in alternate timelines…

9:28 Bane of Arthropods *DOES* give slowness to arthropod mobs. It's already a feature in the game
1:08 I laughed SO HARD seeing how far the "Hatsune Miku created Minecraft" meme had gone
I think blood moons could have a place in the modern game. I remember the devs say that one of their inspirations for the warden was to recreate the terror of your first night. I think bloodmoons could definitely do that although it would make the game harder. Maybe they would only happen in Hard difficulty?
I wonder how things would have been if they went in a different direction than the soulful game we have, considering MC is the most successful game ever i think its safe to say Notch made the right calls in the early days. There would have certainly been some relative downsides, we'll never know what it would have been like, or what strengths other styles would've had.
yeah sometimes i wish we could see what minecraft would be like if notch had kept developing it instead of the new devs. The recent updates are good, but they destroyed Minecraft's lonely and desolate feel. The "Better than adventure" mod for beta 1.7.3 manages to add a lot of new content while still keeping the game Minecrafty and lonely like it's supposed to be.

9:39 believe it or not, BOA does slow down hit arthropods. Each level applies a higher level of slowness to hit arthropods. It's just that all arthropods are so weak, they tend to get one shot by a well placed hit, so unless it's level 1 or 2 and your fight normal spiders, it's not that useful
Giants, giants should have been introduced in some way, hard to say how they would work, perhaps they could span after killing a number of zombies in a row or when a zombie gets shot by a thunder dunno but I'd love to see them implemented.

Ah yes, T-Flag Hatsune Miku, the creator of Minecraft.
Wait...Bane of Arthropods _does_ slow down spiders on hit. Any enemies that take extra damage from the enchantment also get Slowness IV for a few seconds
It's one of only three ways a potion effect above level 2 can exist in a survival world, the other two being the Potion of the Turtle Master (Resistance III and Slowness IV, or Resistance IV and Slowness VI when enhanced) and by killing three or more raid captains, each one adds a level of Bad Omen on Java edition, up to 5.

I wonder if they will ever use that idea of a pigman you can hire. I once spawned into a world with a woodland mansion near spawn. I rushed it by killing skeletons and making my army of 8 wolves attack everything. Something similar could happen with pig men. A full assault on the nether fortress would be much more fun with back up.
I remember Bane of Arthropods applying an effect. I don't know if its Slowness or Weakness, it doesn't matter though because the 5 mobs it affects can be 2-shotted with BoA 5, but its there. I play on Bedrock so it may be an obscure feature.
