Oh Becky! Everyone of your videos has been an inspiration to me! I’ll be 70 in late June, so I’ll be commemorating this Birthday (quietly) by tossing out a stuffed animal toy I was given for my 1st Bday by my Nanna. I always felt she didn’t really like me… so why have I held on to this toy for 69 years?! I don’t know… and now I don’t care! Did I ever really? IT doesn’t matter! You helped me to understand this. Thank you Sweety. From Sheron in Toowoomba Queensland. ❤️🌻

And congrats on finally tossing out that bad memory. I've done this too! Held on to objects that give me bad vibes. It's easier said than done, so I totally understand where you are coming from! Hugs!

It’s such a treat when my child has gone down for a nap and I see a new video from you! I would love a video highlighting your favorite things (such as the remaining decor objects you keep on your floating shelves) and the story behind why they are special. I keep very few beloved objects too, and although we live in a typical sized home right now, I like to imagine what I would take if we someday get to live in a tiny house, or more nomadically in a travel trailer. I think you’ve mentioned wanting to move overseas eventually -a “this is what I for sure would take” video would be awesome. Love the videos you put out!

Your videos are so inspiring. I wash my dishes to them, and think to myself that’s me. I think I have adhd too and was never diagnosed. I was feeling so overwhelmed in my house because I am a product of consumerism. I thought I needed something in every corner and every wall. Now I’m only keeping things that bring me joy or as I like to say…I use. Things I still need to tackle (my wardrobe and my cooking utensils)🙃♥️

You should never be afraid that people come to your house and sees the «mess», if you are, you have too much because it creates anxiety and stress. After my full on declutter i feel alot better, and one of mu new house rules are: cleaning after guests have left (same day or a day or two later). Because you arent supposed to be cleaning for others visiting or seeing your house, your space is for yourself and a place you should thrive self. So me cleaning after guests feels just like a energy cleansing again after the visit and it feels back to me.

I always thought I would have more than one child also. My son was born a few months before covid hit and suddenly I had zero support and was all alone with postpartum depression. Two years later he was diagnosed as autistic. I love him to bits and I spend most of my time working with him to develop. I can’t imagine having a second child now and that’s been really hard. You’re absolutely right, things don’t turn out the way we thought they would. It’s huge to learn to be okay with where you are.

I had some of my sentimental stuff get lost/stolen in a move, and while I do miss some of it, it taught me that I really can live without so much! Some I'm sure I don't even miss. But what I do remember can live on in my memories instead of my home. Thinking of that makes it easier to let go of stuff I'm unsure of in the moment.

Jordan (my husband) and I drove to my grandparents old neighborhood this weekend and all these beautiful stories of my grandfather came flooding back. It was such a comfort and helped me remember that though I only have a few small things of his, its times like those where I see something or hear a song and it will remind me of all the fond memories I have with him ❤️ I'm so sorry for the loss of your Dad and I wish you all the best sorting through what to keep and what to let go ❤️❤️

♥ Clutter was such a roadblock to properly cleaning. It's a lot of work to move a bunch of items off (the bathroom counter, kitchen counters, dining table, desk, etc.) to clean. It's such a hack to have less stuff and move what you do use/need into drawers, cabinets, and closets, where they are out of the way and protected from dust.

I have come a long way from being a shopaholic. I still struggle from time to time, when feeling more depressed than usual. I have yet to declutter paper. I have bags and piles yet to sort. That's a tough one 🙈 maybe because I find it overwhelming and a bit boring 😬 tips are very welcome 🙏 I am very proud of my mom, because she got inspired to declutter, because she saw my new home, and how cosy it can look, without too much stuff in every corner 🥰 The issue now is, that when she declutters sentimental items from my grandmother, she wants me to have them. I have definitely kept some important things from her, but it's hard to say no. And I am starting to find myself looking for places to put the new things 😓 Thank you for a great channel 👍😁❤️ Greetings from Denmark

    Hi Becky!
I love your videos and especially when you talk about the psychological side of decluttering. Minialism is not just an estetic stile. I love to develop and you help me with your words. Suddenly I see something I haven't seen before or maybe I have known, deep down, but your words give me strength to confront it. Thank you so much for being personal and sharing your story and journey. I've been a minimalist for many years when it comes to furniture, decor, kitchen gadgets, clothes, but when it comes to books and hobby equipments I have lived in an illusion. I'm a time optimist. Now I have decided to play piano every day and work in my garden or read a good book more or less every day and lower my ambitions in other areas.

Regarding #6, don’t just ask if the stuff you’re hanging on to is serving you. Ask if it’s dragging others down. I guess this ties into #8.
Those who live with you will feel owned-not by their stuff-but by yours. Trust me that’s a horrible feeling. If you are making someone else feel that way then you’re actually engaging a form of abuse against them.

I can completely relate to the secondary infertility. I have one child and he’s going to be 18 soon. At the beginning of the journey of infertility, it was so hard. I had to grasp the idea of getting rid of everything of my sons. I remember getting rid of his stroller/car seat combo. It was a big purchase and expensive and held so many memories. But we sold it and the couple just threw it in the back of their truck like it was nothing. It was a trauma moment. But, I never needed it again. I didn’t need to hold onto it. I have the memories and pictures of my son in the stroller at the park and talking to the ducks as a toddler. I didn’t need the actual item taking up room.

Hey Becky, as I was listening to you, I noticed a pile of papers/books nex5 to me that have somehow got out of hand, as I started to look at them they fell all over the floor 😵 It's definitely time to deal with these - For some reason I can't seem to stop these piles starting or keep any papers/leaflets in order if they do. Any ideas would be much appreciated ❤️

    • @minimalease

You could try starting with a basket or box there to put that stuff in and when it’s full you have to declutter or trash some of those papers and books. I used to always have piles of mail or paper from my daughters school but I started recycling the mail before I came in the house and my daughters papers I go through immediately and recycle anything she doesn’t want. Not a perfect system but it helps ❤️❤️ good luck friend!
