Short answer: NO! Been following him (and Bosnian Bill) for many years, and all our jaws drop when he doesn't do a repeat to show it's not a fluke. I don't remember it ever being a fluke. Besides, he doesn't do these cold. That is, he practices ahead of doing the video and knows full well what to expect out of a lock.
He's American, not Canadian... I am not sure which state he lives in, but I think it's the more northern states that tend to be more into hockey, so the thought might not have crossed his mind... Also, he tends to prefer non-destructive entries.
@@JonVonBasslake Hockey is very popular throughout the US, Even Texas has a hockey teams. And you never know with LPL. Hes been known to use random objects non-destructively. BTW he lives in Maryland.
It's why I only use Masterlocks. I can always count on a locksmith to open it no problem in an emergency. And if he can't, I'll show him the LPL channel so that he can practice at home and be a real locksmith.

I bought a very cheap pick set a while back for picking locks in scrap aluminium screen doors so that I can remove them from the frames. (They cannot be removed when in the locked position.) I have nearly zero experience at picking. Despite my complete novice status, I've been stunned at how many locks are laughably easy to pick open even with the most basic of tools and almost no practice. I have gained a new appreciation for the importance of installing high quality locks.
Yeah, I used to work in an office where people were losing their keys a lot and getting building management to open them took a while, so with the office manager's permission I would just pick them, and they were shockingly easy to pick, and I know nearly nothing. People thought I was clever, but really, the state of consumer level locks is just really terrible.
@@joatmon101b To be fair in my section of the country "screen" doors have solid panels in them much of the year, you can certainly break them but it would be much noisier and more noticeable than cutting a screen.

There is no doubt that LPL is one of the best pickers in the world. The question is whether he's THE best picker in the world. I would say he probably is, but of course there might be a better one out there.
Often used on vans, I considered a puck for my camper converted van (take bikes and other valuables with me travelling) but instead I cinch them shut with a turnbuckle that pulls on a cable attached to the inside of the door, then lock the pass-through from the drivers/passenger seats in the front. Not the most practical but even if you bust the window or pick the vehicle lock the rear doors still won’t open.
I say this with all due respect and jest, but he must be fun at puzzle rooms 😆 Random person in the group: we need to find the hidden box to find the next clue to unlock the.... LPL: picked the door lock open!
If u don’t have the scratch for covert operations gear (I know I don’t 😢) grab a cheap beginner lock picking set with clear plastic practice locks, I got one for around 17 bucks and another for about 30 and they seem good for novice stuff but I don’t have any actual experience 😅

I've got one on which the little wings on the end of the pick came loose and just spins, and I haven't found a reliable way to fix it. I'll get the one from covert instruments when I can feel right about spending the dough on it.
Over the summer at work, we showed up one morning to find that someone tried to break into the shipping container. Had a masterlock puck on it. Lock was still there but the person messed up the keyway so we had to drill out the core. Was very easy, low power drill with a bit for wood was able to do it.

Out of all the handgun safes you have opened, I feel fairly confident that considering the number of different handguns you have shown in your videos that you _do_ have a personal handgun safe you at least marginally trust. If you would, sir, please suggest one that may be reasonably secure. Obviously I'm not asking you to recommend a product, but if you could perhaps clue us in on a decent one, or maybe even mention one of the ones you use that would be awesome. So, If we were looking for a novice level lock to practice picking... obviously this is not the one, and neither is Master Lock. A regular bolt with a nut from a hardware store would take a thief longer to open.

The comb pick seems to be a good attack for Master locks... was surprised to see the "Reset" didn't have the same vulnerability. At least this required just a little bit of skill. Security pins would have been an easy improvement. Locks shouldn't be easily raked.
At the point when you can rake a lock open...is when you KNOW you've failed to produce a Lock, rather than just Security Theater. It's practically a Novelty Item!

We had to evict a super-trashy crack-addict tenant from our formerly beautiful rental home. They left holes in the walls, trash and animal feces everywhere throughout the house... it's been a nightmare to clean up and restore the house. The only good news was they locked up the gate with a masterlock, thinking it'd cause us trouble. Thanks to this channel I had it open pretty quickly. :D I went with the hammer method and it popped open after a few tries. If only the rest were so trivial, but alas, Masterlock doesn't make every obstacle in the world.

I happen to use some American/Master locks (5260 and 700 series locks), (all 6 pin cores) though older, that I custom cut and keyed using security pins and the anti-bypass wafer. There are a few tricks you can do to the core, so as to not being able to retain the pins at the shear line. You can get 4 pins trapped at the line, but picking you won't get all 6.
@@didnotwantthis American is owned by Master. The key shown is an American key blank. The APTC-14 core comes loaded with 5 pins and can have the 6th pin added and new key made. American and Master share a lot of parts between both lines. I’m not saying the core in THIS lock is an APTC core, however that key blank is an American blank.
@@gungadinn I am aware. My point was that American locks are considered intermediate difficulty. They have a mix of spool pins and serrated driver pins and also have serrated key pins. They can put up quite a fight at times. It doesn't make sense to look at the key and expect the lock to be easy to pick.
That is probably the one attack it will survive. Nearly all puck locks can handle destructive methods like a blowtorch or sledgehammer. From shear mass alone if nothing else.

I bought an enclosed trailer, I considered my choices at the local Home Depot. LPL, has be paranoid, and indecisive. The master locks are junk, and the other higher end brand puck locks. The LPL opens them easily. I ended up with some disc locks, hoping to see a trailer lock (or any lock) defeat the LPL
The ones I use on my work trailer the bolt tends to have pressure on it which makes it difficult to deal with using a key let alone pick it. But. Good demonstration
This seems like a pretty decent lock.. to start learning to pick at the novice level. Tough to access, but no pick resistance. So would be decent to learn what a lock with no resistance feels like

I'd argue that masterlocks are very reliable. I for one can rely on LPL to open one in an incredibly short amount of time.

I bought an enclosed trailer, I considered my choices at the local Home Depot. LPL, has be paranoid, and indecisive. The master locks are junk, and the other higher end brand puck locks. The LPL opens them easily. I ended up with some disc locks, hoping to see a trailer lock (or any lock) defeat the LPL

Took longer to choose and take out his weapons from his covert companion than to open the lock.
The ones I use on my work trailer the bolt tends to have pressure on it which makes it difficult to deal with using a key let alone pick it. But. Good demonstration
This seems like a pretty decent lock.. to start learning to pick at the novice level. Tough to access, but no pick resistance. So would be decent to learn what a lock with no resistance feels like
Amazing. It took him longer to get his tools out than it took to pick the thing. Overall barely longer than using the key

it takes him more time to prepare his tools than opening the lock.
It's interesting that he takes more time to get right picks than that he needs to open the lock

watching this video side by side with 1197 made me realize that the audio in these videos has gotten a lot quieter
Seems like it meets the "Standard" for security in the U.S., it's pretty rare to see anything much better in use.
Sometimes you can comb the first 4 pins and hook the last one, like newer master locks.
