    Well done sir. That must have been a 3000 grit sharpie. No spit though, usually adds a couple hundred grit depending on your chew. I’m not a sharp man but I know what axe love is.

    The Milwaukee markers especially the big fat one, is a level up from the regular sharpie. It will still mark the steel even when the axe or knife is wet or oily from stone sharpening!

    Hello, Thank you for this Video.
    After you've Sharpened the axe, What is it that your rubbing into the blade and then the handle?
    I didn't actually see you rub anything into the area you sharpened.
    What is the reason for doing this...
    Should I be rubbing this product throughly over all the Metal of the axe.
    ld appreciate your advice.

      1 year later Joe consumer here. He's probably rubbing in something akin to beeswax is simply protects the wood protects the metal from rust mineral oil would probably work as well

    what kind of axe and what brand and length should I get? Does weight matter? all around use and bushcraft is what I'm looking for.

      I am a fan of Husqvarna as they are more affordable than something like Gransfors or Hults Bruks. A good basic forest axe would serve you well.

      to make sure you didnt miss any spots during the sharpening process and if they missed anyy bits there would be sharpie.

      Any rock that abrades the still will work. The lansky pucks make it easy

      That's what i always say, it won't stay super sharp for long. If it's sharp enough, it's gonna last for a while

    What kind of hatchet is this please? I'm in the market for one for camping/ Bushcrafting etc. Probably won't use it that much, but,,, what kind do you suggest without breaking my bank..lol. can I get a good one under $100 ?

      Looks to be a Gränsfors Bruk Small Forest Axe. More than $100 but not by much and well worth the price.

    Depends what you are cutting.
    Always keeping your axe that sharp only makes sense in my mind for the tiny carving axes. The sharper it is the less time it will take it to loose the edge.

      @@NatureReliance Oh ok, I use the exact same axe for chopping down trees. Not very thick ones but I prefer to keep it sharp but not too sharp, then I have the smallest version only for woodcarving.

    I actually have to sharpen one of my smaller axes it has a in the metal I bought it that way but I've been using it that way never sharpened it, thanks for reminding me to get a food axe stone

      you need a very fine grit for the edge, and just sharpen a bit (1 mm wide) not the entire area that marked

    I had no problem sharpening a completely dull knife to hair shaving, but I can't seem to get it with the axe heads

    you use a axe to chop wood, not cut paper, it's a different angle for cutting and splitting wood

      Or you use an axe to cut wood as well a small axe like this won’t be used to split big stuff maybe only kindling and it’s definitely a cutter not a splitter

      Sharp axe can be used to chop branches into camp fire wood. Makes a nice clean slice, smooth cut, one chop is all it takes on a chopping block.

    Маркер -очень хорошая вещь в контроле заточки режущей кромки, но я не верю что до такого состояния удалось заточить топор тем камнем.
    A marker is a very good thing in controlling the sharpening of the cutting edge, but I do not believe that it was possible to sharpen the axe with that stone to such a state.

      You certainly can get paper cutting sharp with that stone.
      I've gotten knives hair shaving sharp off a file before, so you certainly can cut paper with 120/240 grit.

    I was taught not to sharpen a axe like that for it only increases the chances of it getting stuck.

      Being able to get the axe sharp is basic level stuff. Once you can do that it'd be wise to learn about edge geometry! Rounding sharp edges around the bit (not the edge) and convexing any flat spots will help to keep it from getting stuck

    its too sharp, axes are made for splitting as apposed to cutting, and a sharp axe is more dangerous to the user
