To be fair, I think not every "rapper" is trying to be lyrical. So in my opinion, you should compare Lupe to other lyrical rappers. Lupe actually puts effort into being that lyrical dude. A lot of rappers have gone away from that, so the term "rapper" in itself has expanded to many different things nowadays. A lot of rappers just want to be sonically appealing rather than being an impressive "emcee." So I understand why Lupe can be considered more lyrical even with a more laid back flow, but it's kinda like he never allows his brain to fully go dumbed down mode lol He's always going to have bars. But in exchange, he might not have better SOUNDING music than other rappers because he's so focused on the lyrics. It sort of balances out. Unless he's in album mode, where I'd say sonically the instrumentals are perfect.
