- Glass of Water is a song I wrote in just under 2 hours using TextFX, a suite of experimental AI tools I created in collaboration with Google.
These tools were inspired by some of the lyrical and linguistic techniques I have developed over 20 years of writing Raps. But TextFX won’t write Raps for you. Instead, these tools are designed to empower your writing, provide creative possibilities and help you see text in new ways. Like with any tool, you still need to bring your own creativity and skillset to them.

This is literally the best case scenario for writers using AI as an assisted tool. In no way it is overtaking his personal skill, and the AI totally cannot do what he does on its own.
To me this is no different from how I used to go to the public library and look at a random line on a random page looking for inspiration.
Lupe is truly an innovator. I love to see him adapting and moving forward with the future. Hell yes.

I never thought I would enjoy this evolution to song creation but watching Lu do it show how great it can be done when the soul is still connected
This is the right way for AI to be used still do the work this will be helpful for producers especially, when you've spent alot of time focusing on production you usually fall short on your writing skills this can help with that.

Lupe made this with Google, just wow. This is further proof that there are other pathways in music other than entertaining forever.
You still have to exhibit a GOD tier literary skillset to use this software to be considered elite. As a teacher of rap, Lupe was the right person. Only Black Thought would be the other person who can give give this level of scholastic type lyricism and be able to tech you through the process.

@@utm0st Mate, it's hip hop, it literally was born out of sampling other work and putting it together creatively. It's the first genre where people introduced Auto tune voices... If there is one musical sector that should embrace working like this it is hip hop.

Rap music is a soul-searching music. The traditional rap writer digs deep into the soul to grab the clay of experience. The sculpture that emerges from this process is chiseled and shaped by pure thought and emotion. Rap writing is human nature scribbled down. We shouldn't allow this process to merge with anything artificial. In recent times we struggle with hip hop authenticity and the promotion of individuality over contract induced conformity. To implement this process is to dumb down the music. To implement this process is to dumb down the artist and his audience. I can't admire the labor of the artist in a truly genuine way-- from what side of your soul did you scrape this verbal reward from? No... the spoils are in one form or another artificial. The flowers are fake. They are beautiful. But I cannot plant them deep within me.

This is so cool. Lupe is a phenomenal artist. I’ve always enjoyed how intelligent he is. This is no different than using a rhyming dictionary or a thesaurus. Or at least how I would use it. It cut down the time tremendously. Speeds up the workflow but you still have to do the thinking. Anybody can use it and abuse it but when your an artist like Lupe this is only a tool not a replacement for the real thing. I like it.

My feelings are complicated, if not meaningless. That was fire, and a perfect use case example of how AI can enhance rather than be used for laziness or over simplification of the arts.

Lupe is probably on to what the next 10 years will be. This process will be what a lot of artists especially new ones will use. It’s scary a bit. I feel like we might have a new divergence of music created solely by AI, with the help of AI, and without. I don’t doubt we see a backlash to this, and also folks not even caring aslomg as it works. You can almost say goodbye to writers block with this. You prompt the engine with enough of ‘you’ to generate an output and then you go over it and fine tune it. It sounds insane right now but look at how Fruity Loops and digital recording changed vs analog bear samples and crafting on MPCs. I think the next 5 years of music might be the craziest transition for how we record write and perceive music.

@@utm0st I’m conflicted. Staying on the cutting-edge of developing methods, criteria and themes for rap is amazing. But, what you’re getting at, I agree with too.
I think rappers forget the pivotal piece in fans loving them, which is insane amounts of praise which equates to insane amount of attention, dollars, respect and revenue, is a dependency on ‘Insanity’….. that part of humans that love the humanity of artist. Promoting diminishing that part leaves me feeling weird for sure.
Theirs no difference between this ai tech and a physical ghost writer sitting next to you in the room people only try to act like its different because its a program.
