Effective Mount Escape is a Lifesaver against Bigger People in BJJ

  • Today's BJJ technique is a mount escape that I like using against people that are bigger or stronger than me. Granted you can do the mount escape just fine if the person is the same size or smaller than you. But it works great when your bridge isn't very effective at off balancing someone. . . a problem that's pretty common against bigger stronger opponents in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
    In the video I'll go over some basics about mount like setting up frames and being mindful of arm positioning. But overall it's a simple escape that you can add into the mix at your next Brazilian Jiujitsu training session.
    If you're a half guard player and have either watched my half guard videos on the youtube channel or have my Half Guard Sweeper series then you'll notice that the escape puts you right into the half guard with the outside hook. Which is a great sweeping position.
    Anyways, if you're struggling to escape full mount against bigger stronger opponents then I hope this technique helps!

      You stumbled onto the most realistic BJJ chanel on the Internet bruv.
      Just keep forcing yourself to go to class 3 times a week and do every competition you can even if you suck.
      You will be a black belt by 20 years old. My biggest regret as a teenager is I didn't stick to something long term to get pro level.

      @@dannycaruso1627 3 times per week. About an hour each class. My diet has been the biggest factor (I was 345 lbs in April, started BJJ in July and was 315 lbs), but the exercise has definitely helped a lot and it has been a lot of fun.

      @@DimebagDerekS man I feel you. I got into it due to powerlifting being boring after20 years. And I wanted to see what my strength was actually worth. My weight loss is similar with this and diet getting me 30 lbs in about 4 months. It's a ton of fun even if I'm still on the losing end most of the time rolling.

      @@bmstylee yea, I have quite a few white belts in my class that I have good rolls with. Lots of brown and black belts to answer questions. It's been a very positive experience even though I leave sore every day and have bruises all over.

    • @bmstylee
      @bmstylee 2 года назад +2

      @@DimebagDerekS That's not fun getting beat up. Generally I get beat up rolling with other white belts. For whatever reason they feel they have something to prove. Or they try stuff above their skill level. Case in point the spinning arm bar that snapped my elbow on Friday. I'm fine but a bit sore. We drill and roll with submissions carefully. As a group we will fight to escape but if it's obvious you're out of option we let them finish it and tap. Instead of wasting time trying to get out. More rolls are always good. Then this guy basically whipping my elbow and not using some common sense really irritated me. It's one less guy I want to roll with. Which where I go there I only have 2 guys I will decline a roll with. It's not UFC and we have to go to work the next day. I like a good roll with an aggressive guy who's in control because it makes me slow down and think. Honestly I prefer the blue belts and higher. They are willing to teach and atleast let me work my game so you can learn what works.

    I like this escape, but the issue I have when rolling with bigger, stronger opponents is if I have my hands near his hips to frame and start using my feet to trap his leg(s), etc, he's setting up lapel chokes or trying to brute force his way past my frames to get all his weight on my torso.
    In particular, there's one older, heavier, very strong student at my gym that goes 110% effort in rolls and I find myself stuck underneath him for 5-6 minutes straight trying to frame, defend, sweep, escape, etc, but ultimately he always ends up eventually submitting me just by using his strength and weight.

    I was able to pull off some semblance of this last night, where I failed is when I got up into an underhook I went for a sweep but couldn't make it stick and ended up being crushed by a 300 pounder. I didn't have a plan C after that. It was kind of funny becaue for one bright shining moment I saw victory and then next momoment I was wondering what the heck happened?

    question (from a white belt) does this technique still work IF the opponent isn't 'posting'? Your partner hard their arms out behind you, and posted; is this technique still applicable if they're leaning back in their mount? Thanks, in advance.

      After watching it several times a lockdown into a whip up, into a body lock would be an option. But, then again if going against a bigger guy the body lock may not be feasible.

    From my own opinion alot of bjj schools don t emphasize on teaching escapes before showing attacks. You end up having blue belts that know alot of attack stuff but its useless because they get stuck at bottom position. Your escapes work with white and blue but as soon as you roll with higher belts you re fucked. That is my case.
