When I use cauls (staves as you call them) I cover them in a layer of packing tape so that they don't bond as well to the wood I'm gluing. It works great! Sweet series! Going to have to try and make one myself!
I’ve learned through guitar making that if you put down a layer of wax paper in between your forms when wood glueing, you won’t glue your project and forms together. Just peels right off.
Is there any sense in adding stringers for a powder surfer? I've been trying to decide on a core material and thought stringers looked fun to do as well.
Sure, you wouldn't have to align them with binding mounting holes, but you can definitely run strips of different woods through you board for different effects.
Hmm. I used Fusion 360 to get my sidecut radius and contact points right and used Illustrator to get the nose and tail shape. I feel like the easiest way if you don't have access to an existing deck might be to print out a picture of a board full size and trace it?
The core is 6.5mm in the middle down to ~2mm at the tip and tail, but I should be able to get you a lot more details than that. I'm making a lot of this up as I go, so I think I should probably do a recap once it's all done with the dimensions I end up with.
Excellent video, and I may be a little late, but would you have any tips on planing the core without that massive planer? I’m Kind of a budget DIY-er without the awesome equipment that would make things like this a lot easier 😂
I've seen people use hand power planes and even good old hand planes to do the job. It just takes a lot more attention to detail and elbow grease to get the tapes right.
Do you mean plans for the shape? If you're just starting out I would base it off an existing board. The snowboard I'm building is based on a combination of three different powder-focused boards, and then I just made the nose and tail shape my own. The sidecut radius, waist width, and contact points are going to be the most important parts of the shape to get right.
I don't even know if I should be using it for the stringers, it's a very heavy stiff wood. You might be able to use it for a core if you thinned it a lot, but I'm not sure

Dude love the comment on tonal wood, that was really cool insight into pop
This is so dope!! I love all of the theory behind this, like the stringers!
finally , great job with the core , looking forward to the next videos
Thanks man!

Awesome! Been really enjoying your videos. Glad found you through the Facebook group. Looking forward to the next video.
Thanks dude! I'm going to keep them coming!
Great video! You’ve done your research and it shows.
Can’t wait to see more videos. What size and shape of snowboard are you thinking about?
It's going to be a directional pow board with a similar shape to the board from my last series. I'm aiming for somewhere around 147 for the length
Hey dude! Awesome vid, just wondering what the final thickness of the core ended up being? And if you would change anything for next time?
Great question.
Hey man
What what kind of glue did u use when laminating the core?

If I broke my old board and threw it out... how can I get the shape... like a bucket outline or??

Any chance you could upload dimensions and things like that (like core thickness, etc)

I just found this channel and I Love it😍 great work! You deserve way more Subscribers! #lovesnowboarding
Thanks! Welcome!
If you used crystal clear resin do you believe the core would show up fine through the fiber glass
No
Hi. Thanks for this great video. Have you any tip, how make plan of the snowboard? Thanks

Do you know if walnut can be used for the entire core and not just the stringers?

@@GoodRoads thanks👍
Hey man, how thin did you plane the core down to after you got it together?
I haven't yet, but I'm aiming for 6-7mm in the center down to 2-3mm at the nose and tail. I don't know how precise I'm going to be able to get it
Keep up the good work bro, and where can I buy your board?
Thanks dude! I'm not making them to sell yet but I really appreciate the interest. Hopefully I can get to that point someday soon!
@@GoodRoads cheers bro and keep us posted
When do you upload the next vid on this snowboard build?
I don't know if you've seen it, but it's up!
Hi Chris, what thickness did you decide to plane your core to?
I haven't yet! But I'm thinking its going to be 6.5mm in the center down to 2mm at the nose and tail
what is the core thickness
Haha gently with a upturned chisel! Nothing to see here!
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
