thank you, Matt.. longtime subscriber, first time commenter.. started playing a few years ago with my retired father and his buddies.. broke 80 earlier this spring for the first time, and I feel your videos have been a great help to me on my journey.. my wife and I travel to Asia often (we lived in HK for almost 7 years), and it'd be an honor to play a round with you one day.. thanks again!
Matt, thank you so much for this video. There are a lot of videos on RUclips that say “you gotta understand the lie”. Thank you for taking the time to actually show and explain what the different lies are, what they do and how to recognize them. Pure gold my friend!
Great video Matt showing us how to read the lies and grass with proper club selection, sure beats heading to the range and smacking the life out of the driver thinking that,s what gets to shooting low.
That's a golden fix of golf wisdom for true addicts Chief! I use more your break 80 videos to achieve my goal of breaking 90. I know that I am so close each round to play in the 80's but I usually score around 90 to 93 because of two blowup holes...18th holes is long haha.... Last week I smashed 90 with an 83!!! On a tough course that was hosting a tournament in the afternoon so the pins were nasty! Best round ever! So proud of myself! Been a fan since the first summer playing golf 4 years ago! I am finally able to reduce my errors and I chip and putt like a boss now! Thanks Matt!
Your content is spot on. I watched this yesterday, played thinking about it today, and I shot 93. For context I usually play in the low 100’s. You are priceless.
15:40 That makes so much sense. I'm used to trying to adjust with my normal chipping wedge (56) knowing that the ball is going to come out much higher so I have to swing harder compared to a flat lie from the same distance. From now on I'll be pulling my pitching wedge or lower lofted clubs for those uphill lie shots.
Awesome video. The compact sand is a game changer. Stopped watching swing tips etc and started playing within myself and love the videos. 10.8 index and working at it. Golf game this year is way different. Will take a triple on a par 3 and then start a new game where I want to at least break 90 and see how low into the 80's I can go... (and its worked like a jem this year) really like your videos and for the they are more about self awareness which can cost you 3-8 strokes a round. Thanks so much for your wisdom and videos. Dan
THANK YOU!!!!! I found your channel sometime last year and can't thank you enough, I went out today after watching this yesterday and shot an 81, that was with 11 pars 5 bogies and 2 doubles on the card. I would check the lies and it made me focus on the type of shot to hit. I promised myself that that I was going to break 80 this year. Thanks to your coaching, I know I can do it. I let you know when I do. Keep up the great work....
Great video as always.. Eric is such a great teacher. The focus on feel instead of swing makes so much sense. He makes it so simple, something that is useful to most amateurs. Gonna focus on that in the next rounds.
Eric is baus, really helpful coaching on the greenside bunker shots. Bunkers are always compact at my courses and I’ve had no idea how to approach it differently
Quite possibly the best lesson you’ve ever given, Matty Boom-Boom! Ultra-informative with clear explanations all the way around the course. Only thing I would do is separate out the bits with Eric. He’s got great tips, too, but those bits belong to a different vibe of video.
I am still working on break 100. But I watched this yesterday. And today, I did not break 100. 😅 What I DID do was hit at least 5-10 shots that incorporated reading the lie, per these tips. Most of them went off just as predicted here. I even hit a GIR from 140 in the rough, ball sitting about halfway down, but slightly above my feet. Clubbed up, hit a punchy one to 17 feet and 3 putted 😭 I said all that to say: There is something here for us all. Even if consistent contact is still a work in progress, reading the lie can help you when you do strike it. Thank you, as always for the preemo content, boyfriend.
Cool content as always. Only problem I have is trying to find a good golf pro here in Sydney. I keep telling them that I want to be more confidential at golf and have yet to find one that understands this basic concept. Guess I'll have to keep looking...
Great video Thanks for taking time snd effort putting these videos for us Very helpful and have applied these concepts while playing it shared 5 strokes off my last round
I was thinking about this just the other day. I felt like I was getting better at the range but you never practice a fully dug in ball with that. So I was wondering how to strike those and bam this vid.
So, I won my home clubs first major of the year by using your course management advice. All credit to your videos on psychology in golf playa. Thinking of re-locating to Ivory Coast🇮🇪
Dude…I broke down and bought into your system today and took the driver out of the bag today. I went from a 110 yesterday to sitting 85 today!!! It was the most stress free round of my life because I wasn’t worried about spreading my driver all over the place. I also hit 3/4 par5s in 3 by playing to my go to 8 iron. I’m going to play again tomorrow and I’m taking the 3&5 wood out of the bag and I guarantee I shoot 80 or better! Thank you for enlightening me!!
Very useful, especially for the obvious (?) bermuda grass lies out there where Matty lives. You have to travel south a long way from where I live to see any of that, but thanks for explaining those humongous divots against the grain. It's not that extreme at all with the Bent grass I normally play on in Holland, so when I first encountered bermuda grass on a course near Savannah GA 13 years ago, it gave me a right scare. It threw me off a bit through the rest of the round sadly. In the 'rough' I found the ball sitting on a cushion of grass, with air below it. Like it was moss. Had never seen that before, totally fluffed a couple of flop shots :-)
So much gold in this video. I have had 4 x rounds of 80 at my course and it's driving me nuts. So many things make sense in this video - maybe your best yet. Keep up the excellent content
Really useful tips. I'm feeling pretty confidential after that. Matt....I live in Thailand like yourself and play a fair bit. I f*king hate cow grass....any tips?.
It's funny to watch these videos as someone new to golf trying to break 100. When I go out on the course and am like, "ah yes, the grain of the grass, or whatever," then have to remind myself that grain doesn't matter if I can't hit the ball right in the first place. 😅😅
I tell ya, this is very timely for me as my wedge work around the green has been on the decline of late as I've focused more on technique than just trusting my athletic instincts and imagination. Every time I just free up and trust my hands and eyes, I'm holing out or coming damn close! Why do we do this to ourselves??? hahahahaha
We have a par 3. 210 yards with 2 greenside bunkers between the green and tee box with about 20 yards between them. How should one play this. Left of green is rough. Beyond green lies are tough. Right of the green is again not very good lie and lots of trees. Green is big but does not hold. My 3 wood carries 180 yards.
Never be afraid to stay short to leave yoruself an easy shot There is no pressure to be the exact distance to the hole - to resist this temptation is a skill
I looked up top golf aficionado and what do you know, there's a picture of Matty Boom Boom there in a bucket hat. So many pointers, a constant wealth of information.
Hit a shot and just think "finish low" That's about all Video coming with Eric in the next week or so, maybe sunday to explain the 9 box drill of ball flights
Long time gangbanger, first time commenter. :D Love the videos bud! I've been working on "feel" with my short game. By nature, I'm a "technical" person. If situation A happens, I do A. It's why I'm good from the tee box and fairway, but when I get close to the green everything falls apart. I get lost in the sauce as there are so many ways to chip (is it a bump and run, flop, regular, 56, 60, 52 degree). Anyways, something clicked watching this video, thanks for being a baus!
Baaauuussss, more course vlogs of you just playing with tips as you go. Also, playing with your pro buddy. PLEASE?? Will love you long time, boyfriend!
Nice, you've given the caddy a promotion to camera operator. Get her on the editing next. On a serious note, breaking 80 is also a matter of confidence and a state of mind. Just like a hooh round a tree - if you believe you can do it then you can do it.
“You’re breaking 80 way before Rick Shiels does” 😂😂😂😂😂. I love it
I literally laughed out loud, and had to rewind the video b/c I missed what he was teaching.
@@wreckembob 😆😂😆
Why is Rick Shiels catching strays???
Yeah that was my takeaway from this video as well 😂
scrolled to comments after i LOL'd
There is only one lie that must be mastered to break 80....put me down for a 4.
That's Halarious!
Clever
😂
Lol fastest way to break 80
Whatacheetah 🤣😂
Eric is like the Yoda of coaching :-) Love to hear him explain things
thank you, Matt.. longtime subscriber, first time commenter.. started playing a few years ago with my retired father and his buddies.. broke 80 earlier this spring for the first time, and I feel your videos have been a great help to me on my journey.. my wife and I travel to Asia often (we lived in HK for almost 7 years), and it'd be an honor to play a round with you one day.. thanks again!
Nice playa. No need to feel it. Its fact. Hong kong sounds interesting. I wanna go for a 3 day eating trip
matty… great videos brother.
I’m learning a lot, usually a high handicap, shot an 82 yesterday… thx
Matt, thank you so much for this video. There are a lot of videos on RUclips that say “you gotta understand the lie”. Thank you for taking the time to actually show and explain what the different lies are, what they do and how to recognize them. Pure gold my friend!
Great video Matt showing us how to read the lies and grass with proper club selection, sure beats heading to the range and smacking the life out of the driver thinking that,s what gets to shooting low.
One the best course management/observation videos I have seen. So many great real world playing golf on grass advice and tips. Thanks for sharing.

Great help. My course tends to give all those tight lies you demonstrated. Makes chipping a challenge, especially to elevated greens.
yeah raised greens with tight lies...the cruelest joke of them all.
Matt, thank you. It is probably one of the best coaching videos I've ever seen. To be watched again and again
Your content is spot on. I watched this yesterday, played thinking about it today, and I shot 93. For context I usually play in the low 100’s. You are priceless.
I can't believe it took me this long to realize it. You look like Johnny Depp in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
😂
"Fear and loathing on crappy lies"
We can't stop here, this is baus country
Thanks, Matt! You spell it out so clearly, I feel like I understand and can use it! More valuable than Rhodium (more than gold!) 🤩

One of your best Matty- what a comprehensive and confidential video 👍
Love the damp, compacted sand trick. Needed that last weekend!
this is so good dude, instructor videos too, so much good information packed into one video
Haha 😅 that Rick Shiels diss
What time stamp

Ricky can't break 80, so it's true lol

13 year gap since my previous 18 and shot 105. Your videos are therapeutic!
Thank you very much. This was the video I’ve been waiting for now to watch it a couple times and do some studying.
Amazing video you are the Baus. This is how golf should be taught , not on a range hitting off of perfect lies and playing golf swing not Golf
Great class. The best I 've saw.

Another thoughtful and well edited treasure trove. Cheers mate
Thank you for sharing Eric's wisdom with us, at literally no expense. FREE advice, that's the American dream. 🇭🇲

Great Video Matty - good to see Eric hitting some shots as well
Excellent content on this one. Also, loved Eric's instruction.
Awesome Matt. Sooo helpful!!!!! Thanks
Thank you for this video, my own golf coaches have not taught me how to read lies like you have.
Really useful tips. I'm feeling pretty confidential after that. Matt....I live in Thailand like yourself and play a fair bit. I f*king hate cow grass....any tips?.
Pure gold
Pure bitcoin for real
the best I've ever seen
Looking forward to this one. Expecting indepth analysis of how to hit driver off the deck from everywhere.
But really tho, great video! Gonna watch this before each round until I break 80 many times
Thoughts on the Seed balls, Matty BOOM BOOM? I have used them for about 5 years and love them.
Nice balls
33:17 “why not aim a little further left”…
Unless you chunk your layup, as I usually do and have the same issue on the next shot…
It's funny to watch these videos as someone new to golf trying to break 100. When I go out on the course and am like, "ah yes, the grain of the grass, or whatever," then have to remind myself that grain doesn't matter if I can't hit the ball right in the first place. 😅😅
Practice until you have a reliable 150 yard club, and then watch Matty Boom Boom and his Break 100 series.

sir i regret/am pleased to inform you they are talking about you on reddit again
brilliant teaching video thankyou
My local course is rock hard any tips as far as club selection?
ask them to water it
“Fatty BumBum”😂😂 I love this guy.
We have a par 3. 210 yards with 2 greenside bunkers between the green and tee box with about 20 yards between them. How should one play this. Left of green is rough. Beyond green lies are tough. How about short?
@@GolfSidekick That would mean always the second shot would be a chip or a pitch. And par will depend always on outcome of the second shot.
Yes exactly. I don’t see a problem

Great Video Matt. One of your best IMHO
What course is this? I wish this was my home course.
Pine Valley
The wet bunker tip is the one shot i really needed to see
what is a punchy shot? I thought it was when you sort of stopped where the ball is? I think I understand what you mean tho...
never stop where the ball is. punch shot is when u keep the ball flight low. play the ball towards the back of the foot and 3 quarter swing
Hit a shot and just think "finish low"
That's about all
Video coming with Eric in the next week or so, maybe sunday to explain the 9 box drill of ball flights
Good to see you using a carlow ball
Awesome
Thank you!!!!
This is possibly the most helpful video you've done
Who is Rick Sheelz?
Waddaplaya❤
3m09 sec as Garry Playa alwats says 'Go low [7i / toe down chipping/ hybrid] to get low scores. Go high to get high ones' 😅
I think he said go high, never fly. Go low, just the hussy hoes
I thought you meant lies like I made par on that hole instead of a double bogey or that was a birdie when it was a par
Love your videos man! Thanks for

On a serious note, breaking 80 is also a matter of confidence and a state of mind. Just like a hooh round a tree - if you believe you can do it then you can do it.
Every course I've ever been to is full of lies, nasty, horrible lies.
You only need one lie to break 80. But you can't have any witnesses.
