@@onedaymoreaboard Yeah..lol.. it was against a team from a much smaller college. The score was like 45-0...lol. U of Ark is not ranked this year as far as the college rankings go, so they aren't expected to do very well this year.
Thanks so much Bryan! We always have such a good time with Julie & Martin when we are all together, and we tackled those locks like a well oiled machine! As for the tunnel, we were lucky this time that there wasn’t another boat coming the other way as that always increases the stress level! I’ll just stick to filming in the tunnels rather than taking the tiller 😂😊
So cool to see the two boats together working your way through the locks. Parallel cranking and steering your way. It looked like Hamish and Poppy were very glad to come out of the dark tunnel. Take care and go safely! Love from Arkansas.
Thanks so much Ann! The Braunston lock flight is SO much easier with 2 boats as it stops your boat moving around so much in the wide locks as you let the water in or out, so it was perfect timing that we were there with Julie & Martin, plus it makes the journey so much more fun to do it with friends! You’re right, Poppy and Hamish are not fans of tunnels at all. Neither of them like being inside the boat, but will just stay at our feet on the stern deck, and you know how much Poppy usually likes to sit up on the back seat! 😊
I believe Hilmorton are the busiest locks on the network. Braunstone somewhere around 10th in the country. Canal and River Trust publish the data annually.
Thanks Tony! We were actually discussing that fact when we did our pre-publish watch through, and said we were sure we had said Hillmorton were the busiest locks in another video! This fact about Braunston was from the Historic UK website, but I can’t find a publication date on there, so obviously it’s out of date. I’m sure Hillmorton will lose its top spot this year with the Easenhall landslide closure. We were wondering how accurate the CRT lockage report data is anyway, given that the flights are not always manned, and that must be where they get the data from? Thanks for watching 😊
Waw, what a wonderful surprise: an extra vlog on Tuesday! Great again to see Julie and Martin there, they are so much fun. Love to see the planters doing great, it so sets any boat apart when the owners add some plants or veggies onto the boat. Great job! I imagine all those locks made the best of excuses for some cake and drinks! ❤❤
Surprise! I’m trying to get 2 videos out a week so we don’t get too behind again. It’s a big task with all the editing. I guess I need to not film so much footage! We always have fun when we are with Julie & Martin, and those heavy double locks are so much easier with 2 boats so it was a win win. And of course there was cake 😂 🍰

Another lovely video - love the look on Pete's face when going though the tunnel. I don't blame him - wouldn't want to meet another boat coming the other way. Nice to have another boat to go though the locks there. Hope your weather is doing well. Very hot here - 90's but calling for a cool down and bad storms later today. Fall is just around the corner for us. Hope the puppies / family and you are doing well. Take care Spinner
Thanks so much Spinner! Always good to hear you’ve enjoyed the video. Pete always has that look of heavy concentration when we go through tunnels, especially Braunston, being a 2 way tunnel with dreaded kink! We’ve had some very windy weather this last week, which is not ideal cruising conditions at all, but hopefully we’ve seen the back of that today. The canal has been like a millpond and it’s been beautiful! Stay well 😊

Glad you enjoyed it Brian! We had thought about some sort of attachment incase the bow cam is knocked off. It’s a really strong magnet base though that needs a massive tug to actually get it to move 👍
Thanks Swanny! There’s a tale to be told with that fancy coffee maker, which Pete researched for months and months before he decided on which model to invest in! There’s a RUclipsr called Coffee Kev that reviews loads of machines. When he settled on this one he waited until there was a massive discount on their website, and used an additional discount code from Coffee Kev for an extra 15%. I was of the opinion that we didn’t need such a fancy machine on board, being more of a tea drinker, but finally gave in! Merry Christmas Pete! It took a while for me to become comfortable with using it after several training sessions from Pete! But it’s still his baby, and I have to agree it makes a very good latte 😂😊
Hi Caroline and Pete, well done Pete with the tunnel, scary. I have never been through one of those. Until next time take care. X X X 💋's to Hamish and Poppy X X X
Another lovely journey, love the music and spotting the Texas magnets on the stern deck. Think it’s the stern deck !! Ooh look at me using technical boatie terms, I’m watching too many of these ! X
Thanks so much Gail, and well done on spotting the Texan mementoes, and using correct boaty terminology! That’s how we felt when we were binge watching so many narrowboats vlogs, and we were soaking it all up, and now it’s all part of our everyday language! Look out for the odd appearance of a Texas mug and a TX t-shirt too! 😊
It’s such a lovely place isn’t it! We love it there. We are quite a way away now since we filmed this episode and far away from Julie & Martin as we headed south and they went north! 😊
What fun to have buddies to travel with when doing locks. It had to make things so much easier. 😊 I really would not like the tunnels. I think I couldn't do it without going into the boat (with sedation) so I would need someone to run the boat for me! 🥴 It's probably a good thing I won't have to deal with that problem. Someone mentioned boatie terms in a comment. I recently found myself explaining to someone the purpose of a snake bridge because he said it didn't make sense! I've learned stuff! ❤
You’ve learnt so much Dorothy! You’re a virtual narrowboater from a far! It’s such fun traveling with friends, and makes it so easier going through the double wide locks too, with another boat there to minimise the movement and extra hands to help with the lock gates for sure. I have to say I have got used to going through tunnels, but still can’t imagine taking our boat through one. We shall see. Perhaps I’ll have a go in a much shorter one soon! With all the lights on inside the boat it really just feels like cruising in the dark and I sometimes sit in there with Hamish. Hope you are keeping well 😊
Seeing navigating Braunston locks and tunnel, we're trying to remember where we walked when we visited Braunston (by car), and where we ate lunch - was it at the Admiral? Is there anywhere else? It's lovely to watch your vlogs as we wind down at the end of our day.
That's lovely to hear Richard, glad you are enjoying the videos! The pub you ate at would most likely have been the Admiral Nelson, a drive down a narrow lane, and right next to Lock 3, or The Boat House, on the A45 which has large floor to ceiling windows and a deck overlooking the canal.😊
Yes, they do take a lot of time to film and edit but it’s all part of the joy really. We are so glad we have this record of our adventures, but even better that we have viewers from all over the world sharing the journey now! Thanks for watching, and your lovely comment 😊
Hi Caroline, I thought I heard you say that you would mount a camera in the bows, but all the footage was from the stern? I once said that I found tunnel passages mesmeric (esp. with the appropriate musical underlay) and you compared this to the opening sequence of Dr. Who. I was rather looking forward to such a tunnel passage. 😊
Hello! I mixed the bow cam footage in with the stern footage for this video. However, it wasn’t until after that I realised that the bow cam battery did not last long enough to get the whole length of the tunnel, and died just after the last bow cam view at the star of the tunnel. It’s been another steep learning curve figuring out how it works, with the battery life, the SD card storage, and especially figuring out an efficient way of editing on the footage so that the timing lines up correctly from the 2 cameras! It will get better I am sure. Next time we go though a tunnel I will make sure to film it and see if the light is good enough, as that was a concern too 😊
There are definitely fuscias and lobelias but we can’t remember the rest. However, they have not lasted well this year, perhaps because it has been wet and so cool this year 😊
Hi Both & the puppy dogs, Question: What route do you go when your getting onto the roof, when the stern cover is up? Or are you fit and jump up. I go over the sliding door, so thinking of making a platform over the slider to stand on. Just wondered? 🤔X🐰x
Hi Julie! To answer your question, when the pram hood is down we both access the roof (Pete more than me!) by standing on the gas locker and using it as a step up. When the pram hood is up, Pete (never me) puts his hands on the rail and sort of jumps up. There’s no way I could do that and would need some of stool to help me up! 😊
Thank You for your reply and that you would have issues going onto the roof. Going to build a small platform to climb onto so I don't damage the slider, I'm not a spring chicken🐔😁
