That was a really large container which I am glad turned out to be empty. How fortunate to have a CRT volunteer near by so it could be dealt with immediately. It's really a shame about the flowers. People shouldn't have to be told to not take things that aren't theirs. 🥺 It's a lovely area and I hope you all enjoyed the play. ❤
We were so thankful the box was empty Dorothy. It was so hard to tell as it fell so heavy and hard to manoeuvre full of water, and yes, so lucky that the CRT volunteer was right there to help get it out. It was quite the entertaining scene though for lots of tourists by the lock! We all enjoyed As You Like It, and it was an experience checked off of Shakespeare loving Alex’s bucket list, seeing a show at the Royal Shakespeare Company! You’ll se the rest of our Stratford shenanigans in the next video. I’ve been laughing editing that one 😊
Such a well presented channel. No gimmicks, just life passing by at a leisurely pace. As a recently retired (through illhealth) sailing instructor and offshore sailor I am very envious of your lifestyle.

A lovely video once again Pete ,Caroline , Hamish and Poppy. I was admiring the garden kept by The Canal River Volunteers and oh then lavenders and rosemary shrubs and agapanthus 🤗 which flourish too in my garden .....thank you Ken and Linda and helpers for beautifying the canal towpath for the locals' pleasure , travellers' pleasure and us... gongoozler RUclipsrs from all over the world. Thanks so much Elizabeth! Ken and Linda are such stars aren't they. We actually saw them a little further up the lock flight but didn't realise who they were until we saw the sign in the garden, or we would have properly thanked them, bringing such joy to the canal, and wished Ken well in his recovery. ❤️
That was ideal I loved its tranquility and super music,. of course the dogs are the real stars. Lovely scenery throughout. Britain we are a rubbish nation as you found in the lock!
That’s lovely to hear Nigel! Glad you enjoyed it. It is sad how the canals seem to be a dumping ground for rubbish in towns and cities, and you can see what problems it causes 😞
That's a lot of locks, a lot of work; but a really lovely cruise. Coming out from under that low bridge and into the light-filled Bancroft Basin shows off Stratford wonderfully. I hope you enjoyed "As You Like It"...and that paella looked simply scrumptious! Thanks again for taking us with you.
You are so welcome Neil! Its always lovely to hear you've enjoyed the vlogs. It really was a social moment when we cam out into the basin. We love Stratford so much, it was good to return, and so perfect to be able to moor your home right in the centre of the town. As You Like It was absolutely wonderful, and even better that our Shakespeare loving son Alex was with us, checking off a bucket list item seeing a production at the RSC 😊
What a beautiful canal, now on our list of places to cruise! Hope you enjoy being in Stratford basin, looking forward to seeing your walk in the next video! Martin would have got that box out, he would have been intrigued as to what was in it lol 😂 Speak soon! xx
It really is a lovely canal, and we were so lucky with the weather too, mostly, which made it even more stunning! Definitely add it to your list and head down the Avon to the Gloucester and Sharpness too! We actually said at the time that we needed Martin to help us get that box out, he would have had a plan! Talk soon 😊
This was only a few weeks ago Sue, and we have definitely covered a lot of miles since then, which you'll be seeing in the next few vlogs! I'm just preparing a map to show on whole journey from Stratford upon to the Llangollen Canal for winter and was quite amazed at how far we have travelled in the last couple of months really! We are so happy to be traveling with the boys again, and lots of other boat friends are spending winter up here too. Thanks for watching 😊
I reckon you are doing well Caroline winding all those locks . I was 22 when l did them with my brother lt would be a different story now (70) Thanks for helping me to re-live my memories.👍
Pete's killing me with yet another scrumptuous meal. And then Alex with his Shakespeare. Lovely way to end a most inyeresting vlog. Glad they got the box out of the canal and SO glad it didn't contain baby fuzzies. As a cat mom, I can't bear animal cruelty. If I hadn't worked in a court for tge past 25 years, I'd be more surprised by the sign about not stealing the flowers. As always I love seeing the way Poppy looks at Pete. Was she always so attached to him? Take care and be well. Leigh
We are very lucky Leigh, with Pete’s love of cooking! We too were relieved that the boat was heavy just from the weight of water and nothing else. You just never know. I’m sure you’ve heard and seen all sorts in your job. You just have to shake your head at society and some people’s lack of values. It’s so sad isn’t it. Poppy has always been a Daddy’s girl right from the very first day! They do have a very special bond and she will always choose Pete’s lap ❤️
Thanks you for the lovely trip on your narrowboat love the two dogs. Glad they got that box out of the canal and I cant believe people would take those plants from that lovely garden makes you wonder what they are thinking.
You're so welcome Elizabeth! Glad you enjoyed the journey. It made us sad to see they had to put a sign in those lovely flower beds. You're right, it really does make you wonder about people and heir morals doesn't it 😢
When I was last in Stratford in the early teens, I went for an evening walk and promptly discovered the canal with that L-shaped lock gate. It was a lovely evening (about 20°) and I walked along the towpath, but didn't discover Linda's hanging gardens - maybe they weren't yet there. Pleasant memories!
30:52 Hello Caroline, I hope you’re all well, fine and dandy 🙂 I’ve got a quick question for you regarding this garden at the lock tendered to by volunteers Ken and Linda. Yes, they created and look after the whole of that garden that I showed. we actually saw them further up the lock flight, but didn't realise it was them as we hadn't got to the bottom to see the sign, otherwise we would have thanked them over and over for all their hard work! 😊

@@onedaymoreaboard all the more reason I needed to explain. My wife and I don’t have a beautiful canal to walk our boat through, but you would love the lake we walk around. Half of the walk is forest that is 2 1/2 miles long. Gorgeous. Wish I could share my pictures. We’re looking forward to seeing your video of fall colors. Stay safe.
Loved this adventure. The flowers were wonderful. Heavy frost here where I live has ended my garden. Just gotta get winter pansies for the back porch pots. Glad the CRT person showed up. That tote (box) was a real obstacle. Thanks for sharing the journey.
You're so welcome Becki, glad you enjoyed it! Weren't those flowers gorgeous next to the lock, so happy to see them, and looked after so well by the volunteers. We have just emptied out our planters on top of the boat and planted more hardy flowers. Let's see how they last! Thanks as always Billy! That box certainly made things interesting, and even more so that we had quite a crowd of spectators in the end! Pete's Paella is quite the treat 😊
Thanks so much lovely! You hear some horror stories of things being dumped in boxes in the canal and it was my worry when I first came across it, and tried to get it out before it went into the lock but failed big time! At least it was good entertainment for the McDonald’s customers and quite a few tourists 😊
Hi Caroline and Pete Hamish and Poppy, as always another great video, I didn't like the box and the story you told with it soooo sad, such evil people. I love cats and dogs, any animals really. Hi Susan and your mum! Always lovely to what you’ve enjoyed the videos! That adventure with the box wasn’t great was it, but it was quite entertaining for the tourists watching how the locked worked. And it made us sad too to see that they had to put a sign to say stop stealing the plants! 😞
Food looked great. Hope that friends / family / puppies and you are doing well. Looks like we'll have a 80F day this week. Then the colder weather shows back up. Take care - God Bless - Spinner
Home safe and sound on the boat now Spinner. My mum and I couldn't believe how lucky we were with the weather while we were so close to you. Glorious blue skies and sunshine with a slight chill in the air most days, but then leaving just before the temperatures hit the 80s again, and then down to the 30s at night by the end of this week! To comment or not to comment, that is the question. 😜😂 Of course the answer is, always comment, and like! lol.... Thanks for another one guys. Take care. Oh yeah, GO HOGS!! 😂🤣 They're looking better, so far, this season than they were first predicted to be. 🤷♂
That is the question Roger! I’m just back from Madison, WI visiting our daughter and drive through the campus area on game day just as everyone was leaving! What a sea of red that was! They lost to Penn State 😞
One Day More looks great in this video and yes those Wilmcote locks so close together would have been hard work……I think you need to do more helming Caroline and give Pete the opportunity for a workout!! That Elsan looked diabolical……and then the box just to top everything off. Have a great day, cheers Swanny
Thanks Swanny! I was worn out all over again editing this video, it was so warm and muggy too! I will still say I am far happier doing the locks than driving into them, even if it's quite the work out, I really do need just face my fear and try being at the tiller more though 😊
It's so hard to lose our pets isn't it John. We still miss our old boy Jasper, it's been 2 years this week since we had to say that last goodbye. I'm sure your Poppy brought you as much happiness as our Poppy brings us ❤️
Aren't they a wonderful couple to keep that garden looking so good. We actually saw them further up the lock flight but didn't realise it was them, or we would have said a huge thank you. Thanks for watching 😊
The winding lasses of the world salute your hard work! Don’t you wish you do a “fast forward” in real life? Thank you for clearing up the Stratford repeat visits time line … love the strumming music 🎶
Winding lasses that’s perfect! And yes, real life fast forward would be wonderful! Now we are back on the Llangollen I’m reminded of the 49 rotations to raise the lift bridges!! 😊
Great vlog! Love to see how the Westie Crew keep Pete company when you do all those locks. I’m sure they are all different and quite the workout. But with your Masterchef in the galley you can quickly regain the muscle power! (See what i did there?) still wondering why all the bridges have a different clearance though. ❤🎉❤
Thanks as aways Eric! I am constantly reminded of what a work out those locks are when I'm editing, but I still say I am far happier with a windlass in my hand that the tiller, navigating to boat into the locks 😂 I am so lucky to have Pete who loves to cook! 😊
Hello friends!!! Hello from Israel!!! Long time no see... I am glad to meet you again... I am glad to see you and your dogs healthy!!! We are going through a difficult time and you make me happy with your films... Thank you❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much! We are happy that our videos bring a little happiness to you in these sad times for your beautiful country. I spent a summer living and working on Kibbutz Gvulot between Be'er Sheva and Gaza in the late 1980s and travelled extensively during that time. Such wonderful memories, and sad to see the news. Wishing you safer times ❤️
Definitely a peg for some of the Elsan points! No the cassette doesn’t smell. We use bio washing liquid in the cassette, as recommended by lots of other boaters, and it seems to do the job 🚽 👌
So glad you are enjoying the vlogs Joe, it’s always lovely to hear. And thank you so much for your support of our channel! We put every penny back into it, helping to pay for the music library subscription and new audio equipment 😊
Great video as always! My husband and I want to celebrate our anniversary this summer renting a long boat. Any recommendations on the route we should choose? We are retired and would like to do at least a ten day cruise. Currently we are sailors on a 26 ft Macgregor sailboat but have cruised the waters in other boats too. ( we are Texans). Thanks for the advice! Jim and Cherie
Thanks so much Jim and Cherie! Where are you in Texas? We enjoyed our 11 years in the suburbs of Houston, and loved to being close enough to pop down to Galveston and up to Lake Livingston for our water fix. Never thought we would end up living on the water though! What a fabulous plan for your anniversary. We would recommend hiring on the Llangollen as that's one of our favourite canals, there are rental companies at Whitchurch and Trevor and possibly others. Our other recommendation would be to hire from Braunston or Napton and head down the South Oxford Canal to cruise into Oxford if you haven't been before. Lots of lovely little villages and pubs on the way down. Let us know what you decide! 😊
Does Hamish find cruising days difficult? If we get a Class A RV, we are considering a composting toilet... don't want to deal with cassettes or pumps. Some of the narrowboat folk I watch love them, some don't. Your opinion?
He enjoys them as long as he's up where we are, on his bed. he seems to like the vibration of the floor and just dozes off now, happy not to be sat up looking out like Poppy does! We have said if there was another boat in our future we would likely choose a composting/separating toilet next time. We have a lot of friends with one and they all seem happy with their choice. Not knowing anything about boat toilets at when we were having ours built, we didn't have a preference, and just went with the cassette option as it was what our builder usually installed in his stock boats. It has been convenient for us, and in a bind, like when we have been frozen in in winter, we have been able to drive to an Elsan point as we travel mostly with a car. Thanks for watching 😊
Hamish is our old boy John, he's 15 1/2 now and has slowed down a lot in the last few months. He's still eating well, and loves to wander slowly along the towpath, and even gets a trot on if the 'treat' word is mentioned! Poppy is much younger at 4 1/2, and full of energy as you can see. Thanks for watching 😊
Whereabouts are you? I hope that’s not the way it will go here too, although the maintenance, especially on some of the northern canals, is severely lacking at the moment, which is sad to see. Thanks for watching 😊
Please we love your videos but the uneven sound quality is so off-putting it is almost making us sick. The loud music is horrible and sometimes even drowns out your low voices altogether. Pete's voice is inaudible unless we have maximum volume, are we even supposed to hear what he is saying. The engine noise and music both drown him out. PLEASE can you lower the music and give Pete a mike.
That's good to hear you love the videos. I'm sorry you seem to be having a problem with the audio. We always check on various devices (phone, laptop, TV) before we publish our videos and this one didn't seem to be too bad, and we haven't had other comments, so I'm not sure if it may be your device perhaps? Getting the audio right has been one of the hardest challenges in this very steep learning curve of filming and editing videos. It was a lot of trial and error in the beginning, but I feel like things have improved substantially since the early days a couple of years ago. I set the music track to 35% of maximum volume, and lower it to 10% if there is talking too, and usually this works. We are just amateurs, mostly working with just our phones to film, and have recently invested in some lapel microphones to improve the audio levels when we are speaking. However , they are not as easy to use as we had believed , especially in the environment we are working in. I am on and off the boat all the time, putting my phone in my pocket to operate locks, and dealing with wind noise, rushing water noises, engine noise, plus Pete being a lot further away , especially in the bottom of a lock, and it's just so hard to get anything close to a professional quality. We know from being filmed for Channel 4's Narrow Escapes program how expensive the audio equipment is that they use, and even they had to dub some of their shots due to poor audio. We do the best we can as amateurs, with the equipment we can afford, and hope it doesn't ruin the enjoyment of our videos too much 😊
Hi Alan, that's so good to hear that you're envying the vlogs. We haven't made it that far north yet. We have done the southern section of the tidal Trent from Cromell to Keadby that you can see here ruclips.net/video/TSCV9TzS5ow/видео.htmlsi=i6GwDkWMfjGdR8o8. However, we had to change our original planning of heading to West Stockwith after our time on the Witham, as my Dad's health was deteriorating, and we didn't want to be too far from him at that time. It's definitely going to happen one day though! 😊

@@onedaymoreaboard It's a 'Wisconsin' thing. (lol) Then a good cheese sandwich and a glass of good Wisconsin beer always goes well. Glad that mum and you had a good time. take care Spin
I do miss my dog that had the same name as you girl Poppy.
It's so hard to lose our pets isn't it John. We still miss our old boy Jasper, it's been 2 years this week since we had to say that last goodbye. I'm sure your Poppy brought you as much happiness as our Poppy brings us ❤️
Best wishes to Linda and Ken….
Hi guys have you ever been on the Stainforth and Keadby canal towards Sheffield or on the river Trent to West Stockwith love watching your vlogs
Well, I get all the nice jobs when we are in the caravan, and emptying the loo is one of them! Hubby connects up the water supply and electricity!
You're so lucky Liz! 😂 Thanks for watching 😊
@ your cooking captain! 🍺💎🍺
💯
Rubber gloves definitely, what about a peg for your nose 😂 just a question, does your cassette smell when it's in use?
Definitely a peg for some of the Elsan points! No the cassette doesn’t smell. We use bio washing liquid in the cassette, as recommended by lots of other boaters, and it seems to do the job 🚽 👌
Many thanks for yet another fantastic blog. I hope you can find something useful to buy with the £5 super thanks that I have just sent you both
So glad you are enjoying the vlogs Joe, it’s always lovely to hear. And thank you so much for your support of our channel! We put every penny back into it, helping to pay for the music library subscription and new audio equipment 😊
Found the cottage on the seller's website... looks like £425,000.
Perfect location close to the heart of Stratford! Not in our budget sadly 😊
your boat is nice i would be scared to drive it no brakes
Thanks so much! I have to say I am happiest when Pete is at the tiller and not me! You're right, there are no brakes, just a hard reverse! 😊
Xx
Thanks Edward 😊
Eleven locks in two hours. No wonder you're shattered.
It made me exhausted al over again as `I was editing this video! Thanks for watching 😊
Is Hamish okay as he is looking slower than Poppy. She looks so active ? Is he older or just content .?
Hamish is our old boy John, he's 15 1/2 now and has slowed down a lot in the last few months. He's still eating well, and loves to wander slowly along the towpath, and even gets a trot on if the 'treat' word is mentioned! Poppy is much younger at 4 1/2, and full of energy as you can see. Thanks for watching 😊
Unfortunately most of our canals over here have been repurposed to roads or drainage systems and not navigable
Whereabouts are you? I hope that’s not the way it will go here too, although the maintenance, especially on some of the northern canals, is severely lacking at the moment, which is sad to see. Thanks for watching 😊
Thetford lavender. Just sayin.
Thanks Craig! I knew someone would know far more than me 😊
and poppy said she does not want to go and see shakespear again, as she can not understand a word he says
I'm with her, although I have to say it has grown on me since I was in school and HAD to study it! Seeing it live makes so much more sense 😊
Love the fake offer.
It’s what I do best 😂😂
thats not rain just a bit of sap blowing off the trees
Could be!
We do the best we can as amateurs, with the equipment we can afford, and hope it doesn't ruin the enjoyment of our videos too much 😊
Bedankt
Hartelijk dank Ben!
Hi guys have you ever been on the Stainforth and Keadby canal towards Sheffield or on the river Trent to West Stockwith love watching your vlogs
