    Nice work. I didn’t know about the links required before the powershell. Great call out for the window 10 multi user and desktop pools. I want to create my own image and found the following on that topic “ To get started, create a VM in Azure with Windows 10 Windows 10 Enterprise multi-session. Instead of starting the VM in Azure, you can download the VHD directly. After that, you'll be able to use the VHD you downloaded to create a new Generation 1 VM on a Windows 10 PC with Hyper-V enabled. “
    Kind of odd there is no ISO so I’ll have to wait 4 hours to move on with my next steps :D

    Another scenario where you would want to not use pulled vm's would be if one of your users needed to run adaptive tech such as Jaws4Windows (JFW) by Freedom Scientific.

    Nice.. Can you also post a video about publishing apps with the powershell commandlets ?

      Danny c6dl I second that. I want to get to published apps as my final destination. Once I complete this and some remote FX labs.

    Thanks Travis for these awesome videos. Can you please do a video of tenent groups and other points required for service providers need to think of? Can you please provide guidance to start work as a service provider for WVD?

    Thanks, Travis. I'm exploring this option for a new round of employees I'm hiring for our sales organization, and this will be a lot easier that shipping a lot of laptops around the world.
    I have a question though. Does Windows 10 Multi-user protect the respective filesystem from different users? For instance, if I have my OneDrive synching files to the machine, I wouldn't want my employees to even remotely have access to my files or the files of their peers---almost makes me want to dedicate a VM per user.

    I just want to clarify that this guide is 100% up to day with todays standards in azure portal.
    Do we need to do everything with links and PowerShell in the beginning?

    Really nice tutorial and presentation Travis.However, for some reason the tenant i've created dosen't appear on rdweb.wvd.microsoft.com.
    Could we also have some further explaination on what "workspace" is?

    Just curious about how the High Availability for the session hosts VMs and fxlogix profile containers be set up, since the host pool VMs do not give options to mention availability sets while its creation.
    Also Azure Site Recovery would be more of a DR solution rather than HA.

    • @Ciraltos
      @Ciraltos  4 года назад

      Good points. FXLogix profiles would require a file server cluster for HA or use Azure Files with Azure AD DS. Another options would be Azure Netapp files but that comes at a price. Instead of Site Recovery I would use a custom image and template deploy to quickly spin up a new environment.

    is computing power needed on the data center side or thin client side for good perfomance?

    • @Ciraltos
      @Ciraltos  4 года назад +1

      The processing is done with the Session Hosts in the data center. For the thin client, consider latency and bandwidth for best performance.

    Hi! Can you please point me to the right direction. I am new to Azure and I need to configure a Win10 vps, so that multiple users could access it concurrently (at least two people), and so that multiple users had access to turning the vps on and off, while only the main account could access billing. Is this possible? What videos should I check out for this? Thank you so much.

    Great, thanks for this. I've been using the public preview and now on the GA but there are a lot of differences now between the two.
    I have access to my on-prem AD via VPN on one of my vnets. But having problems with setting up FSLogix using Azure Files storage for the profiles. I also want to use App Attach. Can you do videos on these scenarios when you have time?

    • @bobermord0r733
      @bobermord0r733 4 года назад

      Fully agree!) IMHO, It will be very useful to use Azure Storage Accounts with FSLogix and understand how to use App Attach in a right way. As for me I’ll be glad see MS Teams working with all this new stuff ;)) And Travis, thanks for great videos!

    Travis,
    Thanks a lot for the great video!
    Few quick questions about application installed on the pool (VMs).
    1. Do all users who have access to the pool have access to the same Apps/Programs or we can control it somehow? Do I need to install required Apps/Programs to the C-drive (OS) on my "main VM" from library or there is more elegant way?
    Basically, I would love different users with access to the same pool have access to different (sometimes custom) Apps based on specific extra settings.
    2. What is the best way to manage existing WVD pool? Is there some kind of management (GUI) interface? What if I want to change size of my VM/number of users and etc?
    Thank a lot for the great video!

    • @Ciraltos
      @Ciraltos  4 года назад

      You could control that through publishing the applications, but the users would not get access to the desktops, just the applications. Take a look at FSLogix Application masking, that may do what you are looking for.
      docs.microsoft.com/en-us/fslogix/implement-application-masking-tutorial
      Microsoft is working on an Azure Portal to manage WVD. Right now, much of it is limited to PowerShell.

    Looking for clarification from what you said in your video - if we intend to ONLY use Server OS with RDS Cals do we still need licensing through M365/E3/E5/A3/A5/F1/WinE3/E5/A3/A5?

    • @Ciraltos
      @Ciraltos  4 года назад

      Good question. My understanding is with Server Session Hosts, it requires the same as RDS on-prem for licensing. Only CAL is needed to connect. I don’t think you would need the E/M licenses (unless that’s needed to cover the client devices).

    Do we require window's server AD authentication to deploy WVD. I am getting domain join error

    • @Ciraltos
      @Ciraltos  4 года назад

      A domain in required, either a connectivity to a Windows AD, either on prem or in with a DC in Azure, or you can use Azure AD DS.

    thank you very much, how you connect these vms with on prem domain ? happy to see that from you!

    • @Ciraltos
      @Ciraltos  4 года назад

      The VNet has to have connectivity to the on-prem domain. I have a DC in Azure for my example. That should not be needed as long as there is connectivity and DNS is setup correctly. If you can add a computer to the domain from the VNet, WVD should be able to also.

    Thanks a lot for your video Travis! :) Really helpful, one question, how do you give the subnet access to the domain controller?

    • @Ciraltos
      @Ciraltos  4 года назад

      The subnet has to have connectivity to a DC before the deployment or it will fail. I have a DC in Azure in a different subnet on the same VNet and a Site-to-Site VPN connecting that to my home lab. A Azure AD DS domain is another option

      @@Ciraltos Thanks Travis, I went for the Azure AD DS domain option and it is working now :) The only issue that I have left is how install software/applications in the WVD. For the time being, I will only have one WVD with persistent usage. I haven't been able to install any applications (e.g. MS Power BI) with my user, I get a "The requested operation requires elevation" message, even though I am listed in the Administrator group. Is there a straightforward way to install apps? Or do I have to through the entire FSLogix/VHD files process?
      Thanks again for your support!

      If you have a firewall, nsg or forced tunneiling in place, be sure to allow access to the Azure KMS. docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/troubleshooting/custom-routes-enable-kms-activation#solution

    When entering the Add-RdsAccount command, it keeps telling me "The term 'Add-RdsAccount' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify the path is correct and try again." I've connect to Azure and imported and Rds module successfully so I'm not sure why this is happening. My exact command is Add-RdsAccount -DeploymentUrl "rdbroker.wvd.microsoft.com" as the video shows. Any one else run into this?

    Thanks for the clarification. What is needed to deploy Azure Windows 10 Virtual Desktop multi-session.. Can I get away with just Azure AD and Azure DS and not Azure AD for On-premise.

  • @fermionsbosons

    How to setup a single user (private user) WVD? I'm not from a company, but simply a WVD for myself. From your description in your video, it looks so complicated (too many steps) compared to setting up an AWS Workspace virtual desktop. In AWS, it takes minimal steps.

    • @Ciraltos
      @Ciraltos  4 года назад

      WVD is designed for multi-user environment and requires some additional services to handle that. For a single desktop, you could simply deploy a VM and remote into that.

      @@Ciraltos , thanks for responding. Which one of your video tutorial that shows deploying VM and remote? A pointer to a link would be much appreciated. Thanks.
