Un cast stellare. Carmignola un top del violino, Dantone un top del cembalo, Brunello un top del cello! e poi Abbado... Il Kantor ne sarebbe stato soddisfatto.
Who knew? Abbado can rock Bach like a master. Unlike most other conductors who slow down and get clunkier with age, Abbado gets more lively and warm. His late Die Zauberflöte is stupendous, too, like this Bach.
It must have been quite an honour to be invited to visit the Margrave of Brandenburg in 1721 and pitch up at the right time to hear this live for the first time.
I'm not usually a fan of these partly modern/partly historical instrument performances and I thought the tempo was way too fast, but that's one of the best, if not THE best version of that mvt 1 harpsichord solo I've ever heard. The instrument has a beautiful tone too and it's a very emotive 2nd mvt. Not too much pulling the rhythm around to make it sound affected, just enough to be expressive.
@@Ainnem You can believe Bach is the greatest composer and pinnacle of human artistic achievement while also accepting facts of biology. It's not really that difficult

Sounds very close to Pinnock and the English Concert's version, which remains my reference for this Baroque masterpiece. Very well done. Flutist has a Trump-like look but it has nothing to do with his excellent play ;-) They rock!
I admire all musicians in this wonderful playing, but I find Jacques Zoon on flute quite outstanding. Together with Ottavio Dantone on harpsichord of course, who has a main role in this. Just listen to them together in Affettuoso at 8:53.
Abbado before such a small orchestra...they are able to perform this concerto without a conductor...absolutely. This is over the top to put a great maestro for a chambermusic piece....
Amazing and wonderful playing by this ensemble. And maybe you can compare this Brandenburg Concerto no 5 with its solos on harpsicord to all the later piano concerts that will come? Is this the first harpsicord/piano consert? Maybe, but most of all I admire all the partipicants for their great musicianship. Well played, everyone.
Everybody says that the presence of Claudio Abbado is unnecessary. Those are words of illiterate people! If you see concerts in which Carmignola is soloist without a conductor, he manages the orchestra with his eyes and head movements. Here Abbado must convert all those creative forced from so different educated soloists so they could play in harmony. Bach did it with his sons patrol at the café presentations, Abbado do the same with this virtuosi patrol!

I bought the recording of their Brandenburg Concerto and play it while having to drive to work and shop and it makes me feel such unbelievable joy.
Bach is a legend! Love from Poland!

Beautiful performance all 'round.Fantastic harpsichord solo in the middle!!!
Un'immagine viva della gioia di far musica insieme, nel nome di Bach.
this is crazy. absolute baroque rock music.
I absolutely love this version

I heard "Highway Star" solo on it

Amazing performance! If only I could be there to hear them live. Thank you for this wonderful music.

Didn't care much for classical music as a kid until I heard this. The third movement still brings a tear to my eye if I'm sentimental.

loving the funky haircuts

Haha! Back in the 1970s, I also had Jacques Zoon's haircut. It seems like certain things apparently never go out of fashion. :-)

Wonderful performance, but a bit odd to have a conductor.

I like this preformance very much, but I think that the conductor is a little useless. But still good job :)
conductor not necessary
Too fast. Faster isn't always better.
its played in the baroque tempo
jorge5150 did you say that to sound smart? I've played this piece in my own orchestras we've gone faster.
monsterluv101 I agree most music from the baroque period are like this
but in this case, it is
It all depends on how the speed is handled. Here - most musically indeed.
Stupid flute : at Haendelsl's time, it was not meant for this modern instrument, but only for the traverso, a wood instrument !
