Here we go! This was just one of the many catapult launches I was fortunate enough to experience in a C-2 Greyhound during my career as a U.S. Naval Aviator. It's also very common for most Navy Pilots to grow a mustache while underway on deployment. And as you can clearly see, my copilot was unmatched in that category... Did you noticed he (and his glorious mustache) barely flinched during the cat shot??

Well of course. 😃
My bad. When I first read that I thought that said have you signed up for your newsletter. Which, yes I have.
Does the plane slow down just as it frees of the catapult? Both you two bobbed forward as if slowing briefly.
Question for you while you’re flying do you allow for the earths curvature ?
Why do you not have to keep your hands off the yoke like the f18 guys?
Getting launched in a turbo prop must be awesome xD
Thanks for the narration, can they launch a C-130 as well ?! :D
"...we really gotta fix the latch on that door..."
Nice. 😄
haha, it's true. It was something about THAT plane in particular. Darn door would always fly open...
@@flyrobroy ha, is that aircraft manufactured by Boeing?
@@EarlSinclair97 Hell no, ha! The mighty C-2 was made by Grumman 👍
@@EarlSinclair97 Grumman fired that guy and Boeing hired him!
This is probably also true!! 🤣
"Back To The Beach Boys.....SEE YA" Perfect way to start The Weekend! Cheers From Columbus, Ohio To ALL The Rob Roy Raiders
Thanks brother! You're always one of the first to comment on my videos and it's definitely noticed! Did you recently change the name of your youtube handle?
Damn, I love to hear that excited enthusiasm.
Absolutely never gets old to watch… Thanks again to all who served proudly
Thanks Nick - I appreciate you being here!
Proudly served? They are not conscripted! It is just a job like working in burger king where most would be.... give it a rest.
@@MevRB19 I gotta agree. I was a clerk in the Air Force for nine years. All I ever did was fill out paperwork, cash my paycheck, and get drunk on weekends. It ain't all valor.
Who says he is not nervous in those situation is ether liar or a fool. Thanks for blessing us with wings into the weekend.
Seriously... And thank you for the kind words!
The crew door observation window flap/cover looks just like my toilet seat cover. Gets me laughing everytime!
Same here! You don't think about those things while you're flying it, but editing these videos I can see it so clearly! 🤣
I still think your mustache looks better. The trust between pilots and the guys in the colored shirts on deck never ceases to amaze me. Your narrations crack me up. Don't ever change them. 😃
#FlyNavy
Thanks so much Teresa - you're too kind!
Everyone bringin' back the Magnum P.I. 'stash. 😂
Brings back memories! I did two tours with VRC-30, and one VAW-120 IP tour flying the COD. Over 600 traps, left and right seat, 170+ at night. Fun times!
I really appreciate the unsung hero's of Naval air. The C2, E3, C130 drivers that are never in the movies. Everyone wants to be in a 'gun' squadron! Greyhounds bring the mail, spare parts, get you on the beach in an emergency, etc. Semper Fi Rob Roy!
--From an old Marine A6 avionics tech who did 2 dets on the Kennedy.
I appreciate the kind word Ross and thank you for your service! Semper Fi 🫡
Your co-pilot is what I imagined every C2 pilot looked like
Nice. Squawk code 2, door latch. I expected to see 20 frightened faces in the back, though. :)
You make the C-2A feel like a Hornet in these videos - LOVE your enthusiasm! Great job as always, thanks for your service and for sharing, and have a great weekend!
My cousin is on this carrier. He will retire when he gets home. He does nuclear stuff. Congrats, Joey!!
Very exciting for Joey - congratulations!
I love that huge grin on your face as the catapult throws you. What absolute thrill!
Supposed to be nervous. Gets the heart going. If you aren’t nervous, something is wrong.
This and all your videos are certainly entertaining and never get old.
Nothing better than a wee bit of pucker factor to keep you focused.
I used to have so much fun standing at those H-60 tails with the marker lights, at night.
I love learning what my father did as a Navy Attack Pilot during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Thanks so much, Rob, for these educational and fun videos.
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during some of those back in the day deployments. Back when ships were made of wood and men were made of steel!
@@flyrobroy
I hear you. So true. It just so happens that in Korea my father's F9F Panther was nearly shot down. He had two baseball sized holes in his nose cone losing some electronics but managed to limp back to the carrier, make his approach and hook a wire on his first attempt. There are some fantastic official Navy photographs of his return flight. The CO sent an F9F with a photographer to document the event.
@@flyrobroy loved this remark, its so true!
best wishes and safe flying!!
Yeah this guy is not an attack pilot.
@@penultimateh766
I didn't say he was.
That latch just couldn't take the pressure and cracked! Haha
That awesome smile as you take the shot says it all! That’s what it’s all about!
From a retired vf-103 AME thanks man
That's the first time I've seen a rainbow warrior in two colors. But considering his job it makes perfect sense that he's yellow with green arms.
love that fingers-to-the-side-thing. gonna put that in the ol toolbox!!
The DOUCHE sound at the end always gets me.
😎
I have one carrier trap to my credit - as a passenger in the back of a C-2 when reporting aboard Nimitz. Thanks for the professionalism!
Sounds like sports announcer narrating this video. Awesome stuff!
At least 50% of great military aviator mustache men choose being firefighters in civilian life and own a Piper Cherokee.
haha! Are you speaking from experience??
Love these video's each and everyone of them. Narration is some of the best I watch. "Back to the beach boys....... See ya!" best ending comment!
Thanks brother! I had fun making this one - though I'm starting to run out of things to say for the catapult launches... ha!
I’ve seen a few videos of new C-2A pilots doing qualifying on carriers. I’ve learned a new big respect for C2A pilots since then. Yet for some reason they don’t get the glory fighter jocks get when both MOS’s are equally important. Big salute to C-2A pilots!
I got nerves in my stomach and chills at one point and I'm just sitting here on my sofa. Last minute fidgets, I'm so glad I learned that's the proper technical term for what Im doing on the brakes on the numbers.
Love the C-2! Amazing that something about the size of a Dash 8-200 can land and take off a carrier.
Thank you very much for the vids....One of the most frustrating things is I could never share what I did...as digital stuff didn't exist...The carrier is a unique experience...Thanks to all the thousands of folks helping me fly...I was single seat...And thank you Very Much for sharing.
cool vid about the carrier....

Man that smile on your face, can tell you love what you do!! Keep it up, love the videos.
It's always nice to have a 'hot shot'! Good work explaining signals. I was to busy trying to not get run over, blown over or sucked into an intake.
I’m just a retired Army Grunt (1983-2009) and had the pleasure of being CODed off the Constellation in 2001 when I was brought on as a guest of the VF-151 Commander I knew while I was in LeMoore. What an experience and I’ll never forget it. Your job is a lot harder than most will know, it takes skill to land on a moving postage stamp!
Ah the last days of the mustache! Thanks for your service!
COD Power!
That door: ghosts of cat-shots past, leaving the building.
Nervous tic. Fiddling. Fidgeting. Oh, and my favorite - the signature move. All are keeping the body/mind in equilibrium for peak performance. If I’m riding in the back, fiddle away my captain. o7
As a Navy vet myself, I've been enjoying these entries on your channel, Rob. Thanks so much.
See ya! Such a riot. So glad I came across this channel. One of my nephews is currently in the Navy on a carrier somewhere.
Somewhere doing something... Thanks for the kind words George and best wishes to your nephew and that he stays safe!
I was a nuke on the Enterprise back in the 80s and I totally get the 'healthy kind of nervous'. It's just what you need to do an otherwise ordinary job in extraordinary circumstances. Love your narrations!
Man, I absolutely love your enthusiasm in these videos!
Always interested in how others spend the day at the office :) This is perfect, love it, and subscribed (after watching the 3rd launch 😎)
USS Kitty Hawk Aft Cats Topside PO. Keep 'em flying... 🙂
Awesome! Easy-to-understand video giving the viewer an idea of what it's like to be a Navy Pilot! USA! USA! USA! Thanks for serving our country Commander Roy!
Rob makes flying the COD cool 👏
Awesome commentary.
I like that you don't pretend to know everything. And your humor is great.
Thanks for sharing these videos.
1:07 ye ye sure, you just wanna show us your beautiful blue eyes!! Love the content, and i feel already safer cuz both of you have mustaches ... thats already 50% guaranteed of safety, the rest is up to you and the bird. TX SIR for you service and much love from Portugal-Azores
we did a air2air photomission last september in Greece with a C2A behind of our Skyvan, what an amazing plane 3) gave me some engine envy that one.
Having been there, done that, I love seeing it from others perspective. Beautiful!
Extremely cool. "F'n-A Cotton...F'n-A" (Dodgeball).
5:07 Look at that smile :)
In regards to why the numbers are layed sideways; its the spatial awareness. It's easier to train 10 symbols in one specific location than it is to train them in two different spatial locations.
I don't know what is stranger, the fact I understood your preflight checklist, or that I saw the door and my first thought was "Yeah, it be like that."
Awesome staches BTW.
3:13 hell ya! Tell it Rob…
Love these videos. Thank you for your service sir.
I enjoy seeing carrier deck videos and the hand signals you all use. I used to run railroad locomotives; railroading has its own hand signals although those started going a way some with the advent of radios. I learned my craft from a group of old head railroaders who knew signals that have unfortunately been lost through the passage of time. Thanks!
Oh nice! I honestly have never thought about railroaders using hand signals, but it makes sense!
Brilliant! Yes, your co-pilot's 'stache is... smth! 😁..the choreography between pilots and aircraft carrier crew men is amazing. Great vid!👍
That damn door 😂
🤣🤣
Every time it seems! 🤣
Displaying numbers with just one hand is a seafarer thing, it allows you to hold a grip with the other one.
Not all ships are as stable an aircraft carrier in flight ops conditions.
3:13 : 'A little bit nervous'? You wouldn't be safe if you weren't.
As a glider pilot I've done hundreds of winch starts. 'A little bit nervous'? Yeah, every time.
Being a bit nervous is good and a sign you are not being complacent.
Its going to suck when you run out of videos to post. Love your posts😎❤
I love how you explain everything in detail! Thank you for your service!!!
I watch all of your videos over and over! They are great!
An Air Force pilot I worked with had a sign that said “ the best part of flying is touching down”
Fly navy!! Just subscribed to the newsletter!!
Fly Marines!!!
Awesome, glad to hear it!!
Once again an awesome narration…!
Thank you sir.
Thanks Greg - I appreciate you!
Just love these videos Rob Roy they make such great bedtime watching and totally chucklesome at the witty comments 👍
I did not expect to be so entertained by this, THANK YOU!
This narration was really good and also fun to watch.
Now i will HAVE to watch more video's. :D
Another Fantastic video! The enthusiasm in your commentary is only enhanced by your stellar mustache! I had one in the Air Force many moons ago and got infinite grief about it which made me even more proud to sport it!
The difference in facial expression between 5:08 and 5:09 is great.
Launching Rob: goofy smile
Flying Rob: srs bsns
I used to have such a moustache in my twens 😂. It has come off since then, so I am restricted to only flying light Cessnas and Pipers.
The insight in this COB flying is even cooler than the jets!
Sadly, mine has fallen off as well (since the recording of this video). I feel as though my powers left and I'm definitely a more dangerous pilot!
@@flyrobroy Good one! 🤣 My moustache is - by the way - being depicted in my profile photo, when I was a 2nd Lt. in the Federal German Navy in 1983 (!)
Very entertaining but still a very serious job! Thank you for your service!!
It's always a pure pleasure to watch you all in action. I smile because it brings back a lot of memories for me. Tremendous narration!
Yeah, you really ought to look into getting that latch fixed.
Back to the beach boys!
Enjoy your weekend!
Thank you Sir and thank you for your service! What did you do in the Navy?
@@flyrobroy Thank you, Sir. Same to you! I was an AT on Tomcats aboard the Eisenhower in the mid 80s. Spent a lot of time on the roof with VF-142 before they moved me down to the IMD VAST shop.
Damn. I’m sure you’ve got some great sea stories. I only ever saw the Tomcat fly once - in 2006.
Sure do wish that big girl was still around!
@@flyrobroy I do have a few, Sir. She was big, fast, mean, loud, and as much as she could be a pain in the rear end, I loved working on her.
I wish she was still around, too.
I know I'm getting old. She's a museum piece and my ship, The Ike, is the 2nd oldest nuke in the fleet. Most of her contemporaries are either scrap or sunk as reefs.
You do the greatest vids. Your jovial manner in discussing everything and giving an excellent tutorial on deck operations and personnel roles. Thank you. Be safe.
I'm qualified to fly a PA28 and the 172 Cessna only. South Island of
New Zealand. Thanks for posting.
🤣would give both left nuts to experience a catapult launch...what a rush !! My uncle Bill flew F4U's off the Saratoga during WWII at Guadalcanal...he had many many stories about his harrowing encounters...I could listen to him for hours...Aunt Doris gave me his leather headgear when he passed, what a treasure 💖
Short and sweet. Love the narration.
Amazing explanation in first person. Congratulations. All the best.
Thanks for your service! And for your awesome vids!
Brilliant !
Love your walk throughs, they are the best!
The Mo is back !! :) Go Navy.
I served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk early 1970s. This brings back a lot of memories. Thanks.
always refreshing to watch man.... thank you..
These are always great! Thanks!!
Love it. Keep bringing the mail.
I want to watch this great vid many time over, so I can learn even more. So good!
Coolest looking truck drivers on a carrier!.🙌🏻
Absolutely AWESOME! LOVE the commentary too, it adds so much. I could watch these all day :) Subscibed to Fly Buyer too 👌
Definitely looking forward to checking out your newsletter and passing it on to my Dad! I’m from Oshkosh, and grew up loving airplanes. Thanks for another fantastic video!
Educational AND entertaining! Thank You, Sir!
I really enjoy your videos and commentary!
Awesome! Knowledge is power!
Awesome! Thanks for doing what you do!
the final moments of your videos are always fun ...
Love this guy, great energy, and enthusiasm!
Thanks Donald, I appreciate that! And thanks for subscribing to the channel 🤙🏼
Not nervous - just keyed and frosty. Great video, Rob!
Hell yea - thanks brother!
Great video, love it 👍🏻 takes me back to the late 60’s/early 70’s to when i was in the Royal Navy and was an air mech on HMS Hermes 😁
